That's right. It is about communication (or lack thereof), but what both Chuck and Shaq fail to mention is that Golden State's Read-and-react system, with the high bball IQ players they have, creates chaos in opposing defences, creating mismatches all over the court that they thrive on exploiting with back cuts, slipped screens and the like. Chuck is right but he's not doing a great job at explaining why he's right. Undefended layups are almost guaranteed 2 points. That's about equivalent to shooting 66% from three. Steph shot 50% from three in both games, and poole shot about 58%. You have to protect the rim first. If one defender hedges, the other has to stay back. In that play, both defenders were chasing curry, and klay got a free 2 points. It's either poor communication or bad basketball like chuck and shaq said. Kenny is getting caught up with the player mentality. It's not the right play, but it's natural to feel that pressure from the splash brothers and make those mistakes.
@judyclarkson58872 жыл бұрын
Wow,, such an eloquent way to put it. The right way to defend then is switch everything like how the Rockets did in 2018. Force them to play isolation. Take your chances in an isolation over an uncontested layup or a wide open 3. It also slows the offense and force a play that doesn't get the crowd going as much as an open dunk or 3

Cleveland tried that in the very next series and it backfired tremendously. That only worked on the rockets because of personnel. Guys like pj and Trevor could guard 1-4. The nuggets don’t have the versatility on defense for that strategy to work

@@livefromthemotherland true but it's really the only way to stop this action

They can’t do that cuz Jokic will be torched on the perimeter, that only works for teams like Memphis and Suns where they have switchable mobile bigs that can guard the perimeter.

So basically you can't guard curry

I get chuck. I rather settle for a very well defended 3 as opposed to a uncontested lay up. Js 🤷♂️

This argument is exactly why the warriors are so hard to guard. It’s impossible to communicate with your teammate when to hedge like that at game speed and it creates frustration and confusion on the court which is exactly why we saw the three guard lineup completely dismantle the nuggets

Biggest thing Kenny missed on the play…Steph pointed to Klay…as if knew they were going to mess up on defense…

Warriors are like Muhammad Ali And Suns are the Joe Frazier Both are the teams to beat in the western conference but Warriors got more experience with their 5 players over CP3 going up against them

This is a situation where all of three of them were right. I get what Charles was saying, you just can't give up open uncontested layups like that. Better to force an uncontested 3 with a 60% chance of success than to just give up an easy 100% layup/dunk. And Shaq was right, too. That doesn't necessarily have to be the choice. They should have switched. If the Nuggets had executed the switch properly, Klay never would have been that open. Execute the switch properly and you don't give up the free layup or the open 3. But Kenny was also right. The Nuggets were making mistakes BECAUSE the Warriors forced them into it. They are so quick and so deadly and so good at hitting those 3's over and over and over again on every single possession, and they only need a fraction of a second of an opening. So as the defender chasing Steph all over the court you're so afraid of what he can do and just laser-focused on, "I gotta get there, I gotta get there, I gotta get there"......and then you don't make or hear the "switch" call. So you miss the communication because it was all happening so fast you didn't have time to think about it......and now, BOOM, Klay's gone. And then the next time down the court, you take an extra half second to make sure Klay stays covered, and now Steph has it and you're down 5. The Warriors force their opponents into those mistakes. The Warriors force you to pick your poison. Charles is technically right about which poison is (marginally) better to pick, but Kenny's point is you still end up dead either way.
