I had to give you a thumbs down on this video. Why? Look at the title of your video - did I miss something or did you not show me how to use Google Maps or Waze as stated in the title. Here I'm thinking there's a way to drive a truck around NYC using Google or Waze which is free, but no, you're plugging the Garmin GPS, which is not free. Granted, I think this was a fine video with excellent presentation, but you did not deliver the goods you promised in the title. The title of this video is grossly misleading, my fellow New Yorker. Tell you what, change the title to something that tells the viewer about the benefits of buying a Garmin GPS for use in NYC and I'll give you a thumbs up. Deal?

Great video for those new to driving buses and trucks. I always used a trucker's GPS from Garmin on my bus-driving adventures back in New Jersey years ago. You are exactly right! A trucker's GPS is better than getting that big fine! Stay safe!

I literally DESPISE NY for their parkway system! I almost had a ABSOLUTE nervous breakdown trying to drive a FedEx sprinter up to Mass. Dang gps got me off on 9A and I couldn't get back to the highway. Every dang road it gave me was parkway, parkway, parkway! I understand about trucks because of the height of their trucks. But COMMERCIAL because of markings but under 10k only 2 axles and 4 wheels is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. I drive for a living but the New England area isn't where I generally work and I don't get paid enough to go but one of those systems. Now I have to try and figure it out AGAIN. I'm a Driveaway driver but I don't drive dot but we have this one account and it kicks up a couple months a year and I don't ever get dispatched to that area. I'm just outside of the trucks AND the CARS. I can't afford to turn the work down but it's so stressful that I literally hate the State for it's stupid rules.

You can thank Robert Moses for this but it is actually nice to drive on roads where you're not competing with obnoxious oversize vehicles. I thank NY for that. As far as the inconvenience to professional drivers, they get paid to be professionals and professionals can just figure it out.

I did a delivery to the botanical gardens today and thank God I wasn’t in a box truck the company usually uses. There are a lot of parkways in that general vicinity. You can turn on ‘avoid highways’ on Google maps so it’s too bad they don’t take the time to make ‘avoid parkways’ an option. Be safe out there!

I just drive a regular van but since it's commercial I have to avoid parkways. Pain In the neck. Zero chance to hit an overpass but still Commercial plates smh.

What about drivers who are not driving "commercial" vehicles but pulling a small boat or jetski trailer? Why are they not permitted on parkways and considered "commercial".

Absolutely the most frustrating for anyone driving a uhaul. Moving south from New England to VA, didn’t know and ended up really struggling to figure out how to continue on our journey. Moving back North, I cannot figure out how to calculate mileage for the uhaul rental and not going to invest in a commercial gps system just for this one trip! Completely ridiculous…

Garmin STILL takes you thru Atlanta even tho every trucker knows to take 285 around ATL. I made that rookie mistake. I've seen a LOT of great things about the app HAMMER.

Great investment for sure. Beware of trucker traps in Nassau County. They allow foliage to obstruct signage to parkway entrances, and will set up inspection stations at these locations to generate revenue. Why are there commercial vehicle inspection station at parkway entrances where commercial vehicles aren’t allowed? Made that argument to my judge, and showed him the pics of the obstructed signs. All tickets dropped. Still had to waste time and money to fly back to NY.

A Tom Tom GPS is cheap and it has a system that can remove parkways before you start driving

Would a smaller trailer that simply holds two dirt bikes still not be allowed? It is not an enclosed trailer but does have its own license plate and registration. It is shorter than the length of a car. I Apologize if this is a silly question, but any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a ton!

Thank you…I appreciate your comment. If you are in New York City it is important that you follow the established “Truck Routes” otherwise you will be subject to a traffic summons. Also stay off the parkways and stick to the expressways.
