I work at a canola crush plant that makes food grade canola crude. He is not wrong. We have a hexane unload area, we have a bleaching plant, cookers, waste water treatment( for the water used in the process) it smells like burnt cheerios here. lol

It can be cold pressed too instead of using hexane. People cooking with lower smoking point oils are probably causing more damage to their bodies than those using canola, as high temperatures produce carcinogens. Plus nearly every restaurant uses canola for almost everything. It does have healthy fats, at least, but cooking in any oil or fat isn't going to have any benefit for you. Look up "don't eat ____" and literally everything will have some snake oil salesman saying a whole lot of nothing to scare you and promote their brand. Exercise and eat a moderate and diverse diet and you'll do 10x more for your body and mind than any of these scumbags will do. It's not that difficult lol
@uweschroeder
@uweschroeder 4 ай бұрын
@@samstephens7688 Canola is the better choice from the vegetable oils, but honestly, most restaurants use vegetable oil which is simply a mix of the cheapest oils there are. In my local restaurant supply store vegetable oil is about 20% cheaper than canola oil. Pomace olive oil is 8 times the price of vegetable oil and "real" olive oil a lot more than that. I don't use unsaturated fats for high temperature applications. Just use lard, tallow or clarified butter. They don't break up nearly as quickly and they taste better.
@linkscott

@@samstephens7688 But it's never cold pressed. A very good alternative is avocado oil, it has a super high smoke point but has similar health benefits to olive oil

Can ol a is an acronym that stands for “Canadian Oil Acid.” It’s extracted from Rapeseed (there’s no such thing as a canola plant). During WWII, Canada was asked by the Allies to provide an oil as a lubricant for tanks, ships, military hardware at al. So they grew this stuff like crazy to grease the tanks etc. Now, we eat it.
