Yeah, the joke is very unfunny if you actually are German, because we have the habit of respecting the names of foreign cities. The movie was actually very good in using German (even the inscriptions on the boxes were correct for a change instead of being pulled from google translation). It just happens that the German words for New York and Boston happens to be New York and Boston.

Actually, there is a very good reason. The Valkyrie was powered by the Tesseract. Which was no longer even in the plane. So the Valkyrie was probably functioning on back-up power or power it had managed to store from the Tesseract, so Steve probably didn't have any time. It was either forcing it down where it wouldn't cause any harm to anyone or risking hurting someone else.

***** Who knows if there was an autopilot on that thing. He didn't make it, nor did he have any training in piloting that'd let him know which it was, and the controls were in German anyway. Even if he just pointed it where he wanted it to go, at the height the Valkryie was, wind and turbulence could have knocked it off course to a place where it would have hurt someone, and by the time he could have been sure that it would have crashed where he wanted, a parachute would likely not open enough in time to save him from death or serious injury. And had he waited for someone who could have helped him set it down, like Stark, the power might have given out and the Valkryie would just plummet from the sky with little to no control over where it'd crash. Steve's main intention was to smash it down somewhere it wouldn't hurt anyone, and to make sure that it wouldn't hurt anyone. Hence why he nosedived it and stayed until the end.

It was a big plane, but not nearly that big. The real problem was that the plane had an autopilot. Steve could force it down manually, but if he just jumped out, it would auto-correct and fly to the east coast of America, and its payload could wipe out the entire eastern seaboard.

If he let up, the autopilot would take over again. Also, if he'd parachuted, he would have ended up in the middle of the North Atlantic in March (if the date on the newspaper in TWS is any indication.) The people on the Titanic (which went down in April in roughly the same area) died in minutes after they hit the water. Seems like he'd've been frozen either way, except if he'd parachuted, he'd've frozen and drowned AND the plane would have gone on to crash in NYC. So, jumping really wasn't an alternative, either.And one thing I really wish they'd correct in this, though: The names of the cities are the same in German and English.

How it should've ended... actually, I think Captain America ended just fine the way it did. I wasn't even a fan of Captain America before I saw that movie. Just never really thought much about him. Now, I can see how awesome he is. They made those movies to attract a newer audience and they definitely made me a believer. I don't think they've made a bad movie with any of the Avengers- I've loved them all. Seriously, none of them are going to be perfect and I know I'm new to the franchises, I don't know what they mixed up with the lore. But I enjoyed each and every movie. At the end of the day, they were fun. And worlds better than the Last Airbender movie.

Actually, the whole "Stormtroopers can't hit anything" is a myth. They actually are pretty good marksmen. There are several instances in the trilogy that show this. There's only ONE part of the movie where they are terrible and that's when Luke, Han, Leia, and Chewie are trying to escape the Death Star. The reason they're terrible is because they're supposed to let them go so that the homing beacon that Vader had placed on the Falcon can lead the Imperials to the Rebel Base. But everyone only remembers that time and never bothers to factor in the fact that Vader even says that he had the beacon in place.
