In Mexico, drug cartels have infiltrated all levels of the local economy and now control major sectors, from agriculture to oil.
Exploiting the corrupt police force and a complicit banking system, they have brought up large swathes of agricultural land, controlling production and prices. This takeover of the world's leading producer of avocados is destabilizing the market. The price of this green gold has gone up by 22%. Today, between 20-30% of all estates have now been taken over by the cartels.
With annual revenue of $6-7 billion, these drug lords seem to benefit from the help of governments, and nothing seems to stop them.

@@rebeccaaldrich3396the US govt doesn’t produce nor sell firearms to anybody. This guy has no idea what he’s talking about. The US, like many other countries produces firearms….Mexico does not. Mexicans find ways to get people to buy/import guns for them. Same as if you bought a firearm legally then sold it to your felon neighbor that can’t legally buy one. US business is very prevalent in Mexico & would be more so if there was less armed extortion. The US govt doesn’t sell firearms. But firearms manufacturers sell firearms to the Mexican govt, for police, national guard & military.

In the rgv, Houston, San Antonio, and El Paso, many many “cartel” (cartel is an incorrect and misleading term for Mexican OC groups, cali and Medellin were cartels, they controlled the entire market world wide bc of this giant share of production and distribution) higher ups and their families live in the cities mentioned.
