To me Chauncey is the perfect example of 2 things, dedication to your craft and hard work pays off if you are trying to better yourself. Secondly coaching and player development is extremely crucial to many of these players because these coaches see you practice everyday so they understand what you excel at and what you struggle with.

He's one PG I'll take any time If I want to bulid a contending team that can win the title. Billups is a star who can give u 20 or 16 with good playmaking also defense, He's great leader and makes teammates around him better. People forget the pistons weren't the same team after they traded him for Iverson probably one of the worst trades in the NBA. They made the conference finals 3 times when Billups was their and when he went to Denver they were a much better team. Nuggets were a 1st round exit each year but with Billups they made the conference finals in 2009 but lost to the Lakers

Chauncey Billups was an elite defensive player who flourished in the Larry Brown system, and alongside Rip, Tayshaun, Sheed, and Ben Wallace. Even after he was traded to the Pistons, he was killing it in Denver and showed no signs of slowing down.

@ReCharredSigh2 жыл бұрын
Chauncey admitted early on in his career coaches didn't even bother teaching him how to play the point guard position. What plays to run, who to get the ball to during a game, etc. When he was in, they just told him to score. It wasn't until he got to the Twolves that he asked Terrell Brandon on advice on how to run point and Sam Mitchell on how to be a leader that his career finally took off. Goes to show you how good development on a team is key to making young players better, both good supportive teammates and coaching staff.

Detroit won their titles through perfect teamwork, genuinely liking each other as people and suffocating defence (Which, as an aside, is why no place was less suited to Darko's development. It was an all-American team of people who knew each other already, with the exception of Sheed who fit in better for obvious reasons; a team run by a coach who was not keen on rookies and kept playing Darko as a center when he was more of a power forward. It's a similar story (though a more extreme version) to why Vlade Divac struggled for most of his career. Only in Sacramento he was allowed to play as anything but a traditional "bully" center, and suddenly he flourished despite being past his prime. Adding to all of this, Darko was also extremely tough to coach and discipline, and that's understandable, but it was a vicious loop with all the other stuff. Darko sees no play/sees play out of his natural position, the players don't like him, Darko gets wasted every night and doesn't put in the effort. Repeat.)

@@chenault15 Theres much about that finals that you have to understand, Kobe lost that for the Lakers much more than anything Billups or even the Pistons did themselves. Just like with previous teams Phil Jackson coached, he took his experience vs other problematic teams from his previous teams, Larry Brown applied schemes, and mitigations tools to stop or slow down both Shaq and Kobe, Gary Payton was always going to have problems with as hot a head as he was, that team was going to do excellent, all the way up til they were faced with a real challenge, especially in a late, post season schedule. They had atleast 4 players that in their own way, thought the team was their team, or at the very least, had their own way of doing things, and werent going to let anyone change that. All 4 players of that super team, were atleast 20 point per game scorers in the previous season, and now you throw them together, and tell them to go win it, with players that ball dominant, there was next to no way that they were going to mesh, and be able to share the rock like a well-oiled machine, there was going to be some clashing as each person's numbers was going to drop having to get alot less touches than normal. Think about it, Karl Malone went from being THE offensive guy on the Jazz, to being just another player to pass the ball to, or get some rebounds in the summer off from a season that he was touching the rock on probably 50% or more of the possessions, he was THE go to guy for Stockton to pass to. It was nearly the same with Gary Payton, except he and Shawn Kemp were probably getting roughly equal touches. So lastly, we have the biggest issue that lost the Lakers that finals than all of that I just said, and that is Kobe wanting to be the highlight guy in the season for his team, not being in Shaq's shadow. This cause Kobe to act out in an extremely childish way, showing his maturity level wasnt as high as many of us thought that it actually was, he should have known, in a situation like he was in at that time, if all else fails, pass it to Shaq, but he didnt want to be robin again in this Finals trip, so the Lakers' play was extremely sloppy for this task, that was the opposite of what they needed for a team as organized as the Pistons were, for that particular finals. The Pistons played well, and took advantage of a team that easily could have won, if they were playing team ball to their full potential, which they definitely werent, I would darn near say, the Lakers may have had a better chance of winning that particular finals, if they had just played Kobe off the bench or something, and let GP and Derek Fisher play the guards as starters. With that, I say Shaq would have been able to eat much much more than with Kobe hogging the ball, when he shouldnt have been, they could have been feeding Shaq and Karl like clockwork.
@chenault152 жыл бұрын
@@gangstagummybear3432 I know the narrative that’s told about that team but that doesn’t take away from the fact that the Pistons still won and went back the next year which to me shows that they deserved to win the title it was a 4-1 gentlemens sweep for crying out loud. Then also went to 6 straight conference finals something again the other players that are in the HOF never did but hey to each his own 🤷🏾♂️

He was never a bust. Coaches can fuck your career up.
