Super Sid played both sides of the ball at a very high level, a shame he never got the chance to play on a top NBA team.

Moncrief is definitely on the short list of most underrated players of all time. He never won a championship or played in a championship game, retired young due to bad knees, and played in a relatively media-poor place. But he should be in the Hall of Fame. He was as good a defensive guard as the league ever saw, he was a very good offensive player, and he was a phenomenal leader. Wake up Hall voters! Put him in there!!!

Excellent video and 411 regarding a very under appreciated guy Sidney Moncrief who played the game and competed the right way! He did this n' a small market Milwaukee, but he was well respected by his NBA peers and it is now time for the NBA to recognize his positive impact and legacy on the game...

You underrate his offensive game. He was not weak at anything. He had a degenerative knee that the doctors said he would only be able to play 2 years of pro ball at most. During his mostly healthy first 5 to 6 years he averaged over 20 points a game.

Absloutely no player in the 80s scored more points than Alex. Moncreif was my guy I just found out he isn't in the hall. From his second year in the league he was a 20 a game scorer for like 6 seasons. He did so much that didn't show up on the stat sheet like Bobby Jones. He was the first non-big man to win DPOY,back then it was unheard of. I think he should be in the hall he has pretty solid numbers.. 5X Allstar, 5X All NBA, 2X DPOY, 5X All Defense, 15.. ppg 4.7 rpg 3.8 apg not the best but like other players he was a difference maker and made his presence felt...

@@mookeychase0907 it wasn't strange to see a guard won the dpoy, ha won the first 2 dpoys, since the dpoy award was created, perimeter defenders usually won it. Moncrief, Cooper, Roberson, Jordan were the first guys to won it. The first bit man was Eaton

@@jacopopispola9925 yeah that is true but tradinyinally and after that we always think of bigs blicking shots ans intimidating guys and altering shots. After Mike the worm won a couple of em and big men started to win it. There was a a string of years when Dave, Hakeem, Dikembe, Zo, Big Ben, Dwight dominated it, KG, Camby, Marc Gasol Tyson and Noah won it once then Kawhi(2x)Draymond then back to the bigs Rudy won the last two. When Ron Artest won it in '03-'04 it was like the first time a non big won it since GP won it in like '96 when they made the finals. You're right tho back then when my guys Sid and Alvin were winning it, the smalls were winning it. I forgot at the start guards were actually winning it…✌️🏽

I was from Springdale Arkansas. And, I remember watching him play with the Razorbacks. He was part of the original triplets, along with Rin Brewer and Marvin Delph. They helped to put the Razorbacks on the map for men's basketball. And, he took that to the NBA. He could've been chosen by the Lakers. But, in the end they chose Magic Johnson. But, Super Sid was an awesome player. If that he could've played at least six more good years. He would've been in the NBA hall of fame.

Thanks for this video. AWESOME JOB!!! I have a Moncrief memory to share. Years ago Bucks were playing Lakers in LA.. Game is close at the end. Could go either way. Lakers call timeout. Riley in huddle tells Magic to take Moncrief to the hole. Sid proceeds to stop him. Bucks get the ball and call timeout. Bucks win when Moncrief scores layup basically at the buzzer. Those Bucks team were awesome. They just could never obtain another great player that got them past Boston and or Philly in the same year. People forget the Bucks swept out Boston in 83 with a small lineup that they couldn't handle. Boston fixed that by getting Dennis Johnson from Phoenix for last guy on their bench Rick Robey and the old undisclosed amount of cash. Also I would say most of the Moncrief led Bucks teams were better then any team Jordan beat in the finals. Plus they were not 1 year wonders. One of the best teams in any decade that didn't win a title. Lastly they beat Detroit bad when the Pistons were led by Thomas, Tripucka and Long. Detroit just moved ahead by having higher draft picks. If anything Milwaukee was loyal to the players they had and maybe should have moved one of their guards for a bigger player. But that doesn't take away from how good Sidney Moncrief and those Don Nelson led teams were.

Sid is my favorite player of all time. The one thing missing from this piece is the heart Sid played with. You couldn't ask anyone to give more effort and he did it on both ends hurt or not. He also was a good rebounder, between 81-86 He got over 5 boards per game with 2 years at 6.7. Not bad for a 6'4" guard.

One more thing. That was probably Sid’s best year 84-85 but to me I will never forget him playing the 76ers in the playoffs in 1986. It was a Willis Reed moment. It seemed like he could hardly walk and yet he led the team to victory in game 7, against a team that had their number for years in the playoffs.

Sidney Moncrief was the absolute undisputed leader of those Bucks teams. When you played the Bucks, you game planned for Moncrief. Moncrief was one of the classiest guys in the league and one of the most respected. In his younger days, when he was healthy, he was a great leaper. He was one of the best defensive guards in NBA history. In the 1985 playoffs he OUTPLAYED MJ. OK, OK MJ was a rookie but still Moncrief was better in that series as the Bucks eliminated the Bulls in Chicago. MJ praised Moncrief after the series, stating how Moncrief chased him all over the court.
