Wasting talented players in their prime has been a trend in Timberwolves history. After Garnett they wasted Kevin Love, nearly ruined Andrew Wiggins, traded Zach Lavine entering his prime and made Jimmy Butler unhappy. It's only now that the team has a real sense of direction and are doing their best to not waste the stars they have now with Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards.

Garnett was an incredible player. But with today's eye, I can't help but cringe a little when I see those mid-range jumper with a foot on the 3 point line. It's so close to be worth 50% more, we nearly never see those in today's game. It's weird to see a shooter spot-up from like a foot from the 3 points line for a really long midrange shot. I can't imagine how better he would have been in today's game, with the spacing around him. He would have destroyed everybody on the 3 levels.

As a Wolves fan who grew up in the KG era. My mom got me season tickets from 99-2004. So I got to see peak KG which is awesome. You’re 100% right though. Brandon was a very good point guard but he just couldn’t stay healthy. Both Marbury and Billups would have definitely been a better pair with KG through his prime. Fortunately we had Sam Cassell who was and imo is the best point guard in team history, but that only lasted for- really 1 season… I pray we keep a good team around Anthony Edwards and don’t waste his prime like we did KG.

Bruh come on, the Timberwolves didn’t trade Marbury for “no reason” they traded him because Marbury requested a trade, Garnett got his extension first and was signed with that lucrative superstar contract, Marbury would make about 50 million less than KG if he stayed with the wolves he also wanted his own team and he wasn’t gonna settle for less while being seen as less even though he was, not to mention Tom Gugliotta their third all star didn’t like him either and went as far as to have his agent threaten to not resign if Marbury was still there which he was and so he left right before, it was more of bad luck, they didn’t want to lose Marbury yet had no choice in the end while losing the other all star

Here's a what-if for you guys: Remember that the Wolves traded for Stephon Marbury's rights on draft night. What if they would've stuck with the guy they originally selected? I submit that there's a chance KG's prime looks a little different in terms of team success if he'd been able to play with Ray Allen from the get-go as opposed to them teaming up later on in their careers.

I have to correct you about the Marbury trade. Stephon Marbury didn't want to stay in Minnesota. And back then, it was Marbury and not the T-Wolves that looked bad. Also, KD's contract was a gamble. We weren't hating, it's just that he was being paid more than Shaq. When Shaq got his contract, it was _wild_ but understandable. KD, however, was unproven. Of course, it turned out to be a great decision by Minnesota, but their concern was valid

They can afford it. They just don't want to dive into luxury tax like other teams that want to win. Glen Taylor owns multiple businesses in Minnesota. If he can purchase a newspaper for 100 million, why couldn't he pay Billups or Marbury so they would have a consistent point guard? Milwaukee tried to be cheap by letting Brogdon go but it ended with them losing in 4-1 in Miami, which was a wake up call to them that they had to spend money on talent or else lose a generational talent like Giannis.

Not only did they waste his Prime but the 2000-2010 was the Shaq and Kobe then later on Kobe era, 5 championships of that decade belonged to the Lakers 7/10 of the finals matches had the Lakers as the Western Conference champs with a slight appearance of the Spurs and the Mavs. KG was just on the wrong conference at the wrong time in his prime, the west was stacked with really strong teams like the Lakers, Spurs, Mavs and Suns. @Larry James Point me to an important game that he showed up for his team when it matters. His playoff career high is 35. Name another so called superstar and hall of famer with that low of a playoff career high. If his teams were so trash he should've carried them, which he didn't. His teammates are the ones that carried him when it mattered offensively. He only averaged 16 pts a game with the Celtics.
