China didn’t just started since 2020 by subsidies, the original plan was since 1990s. But before it announced the plan, it guided all supply chain ready. Like BYD was made batteries for mobile phones before. Electric motor tech was used in high speed trains and other equipments, and China is building the supply chain from scratch for electric motors including the key material rare earth refining and it used in electric cars today. China adopted e-bikes around 2007 and it paved the way for EV industry as well. Then the government push electric buses for a few years and BYD made a lot of electric buses before the electric cars. The industry created a huge number of engineers. Also China did a lot of work to made electric price one of the cheapest in the world. The supply chain is like building a skyscraper and you can’t skip the base or a few levels and build the top level only.

without state dotation the sales would be even smaller. and nowdays they are getting taxed so its not even a slightly win. getting plain with ice engined cars. money wise. second had sales are misserable compared to other cars. value drop of used ones apart teslas is biblical...firs cars in history where EV , first land speed records where done by EVs.
