Can 1 Chosen Axemen beat every unit in Seleucid roster units including Elephants?
Combatants: 1 x Chosen Axemen vs. 1 x of each Seleucid Cavalry unit
Terrain: Grasslands
Players: Both sides are controlled by human player
Tactics: Tactics ARE NOT Allowed, missiles can be fired and warcry used

The video starts getting choppy when the Militia Cavalry are preparing to charge at 1:17 and stays like that until 1:47.

As maligned as the Greek cavalry are, the fact is light cavalry, even mediocre light cavalry, can be extremely dangerous when they fly into the rear of an engaged unit. For that reason, I propose a test. How many units in the Roman infantry roster can a unit of militia hoplites and militia cavalry working together take out? I reckon up to late legionary, at which point I think even rear charges will start to do more damage to the Greek cavalry than to the legionaries.

I thought for sure that the Cataphracts would lose since the Chosen Axemen counter armored units. The shock of their charge was just too much tho.

I wonder what it takes for them to beat Cataphracts! Counter-charge Warcry Snow Woods (definitely, since cavalry gets huge penalties)

I feel like this is all wrong Both from a gameplay and irl viewpoint, these axemen should be terrible against cavalry. Sure the axes are high damage but they have no reach. Those lances would be piling up with the bodies.

Part of the issue is cavalry going in and getting stuck in melee. Most of them aren't good for that. Even a head on frontal charge into a good infantry unit, ready to receive it, won't be as rewarding as a flank or rear charge. You had to cycle charge with most cavalry. Something like Cataphracts just rolling in, head on, and crushing great infantry units in drawn out melee combat isn't the norm in a lot of TW games. In a regular game, effort would be pinning the infantry and maneuvering cavalry for a flank or rear charge. High casualties and shock to morale. Then take the cavalry out of melee and set up another charge. Companion Cavalry would be better than what they were being used for in this video. Hell, even Light Cavalry can do some good stinging with a flank / rear charge, especially considering the cost difference going on here.

Despite their wins the fact they usually took so many casualties and even came close to losing to Milita Cav of all things really shows these guys are not good at facing cavalry head-on. The AI from what I see will pull its cavalry back at times to cycle charge and that's not getting into the fact they will usually have more than one and if one charge can do that much damage to Chosen Axemen, a second will end them.

Would units not suffer army loss morale penalty towards the end? I guess both sides suffer it but perhaps it might affect one unit more than the other.

Thanks for the good question. The victor is ordered to withdraw from the field. (That is possible in Rome) Thus, the balance of power does not shift too much :)

I need to say this because it has been getting worse and worse, but you need to check what is causing your videos to stutter because it is making it hard to even watch what is happening clearly at points. The parts around 1:30 to 1:48 were a big example of this issue.
