Thanks for gas lighting us. For a >$3k AR variant in 5.56 NATO, the barrel should be chrome lined. Period. Marvin Pitts has a vendor, as does Geissele. One could eat humble pie and ask Marty Daniel for help due to the messed up importation laws. MR556s are not Recce or match rifles. 3% chromium in the steel does not confer easier cleaning or improved corrosion resistance. Yes, the steel is great, but there are near equivalent alternatives. I read the HK USA posts on HK Pro. I agree with everything they said except the barrel lining issue. Happy Thanksgiving

If your living outdoors with the rifle in a military setting for days to weeks on end a CL barrel would probably be smart idea for corrosion resistance. For a "match rifle" HK made the right move.

I have been on the other side and I stand with millions of $$$$ of research from the premier small arms manufacturer in the world.....to each his/her own and thankfully there are many chrome dome options for the chromium minions! Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for sharing

lol you are PSA, BCA, Aero guy who has never owned a high end AR. HK is reliability. If you don’t understand that then you don’t know guns. HK didn’t give CL because you don’t need it considering you probably only shoot a couple hundreds rounds each year and that’s a big maybe

I've been trying to find info everywhere. I know it's not chrome lined but is it nitrided or does it have some sort of other corrosion-resistant finish? I'm genuinely curious and not looking to argue about whether it's necessary or whatever or if the barrel is good.

@@Bulking_Smeagol I just remembered but I believe the hk91 and hk54/mp5 also had naked barrels and yet those are unamimously held to be legendary weapons.

What I find so telling about the new A4; is the internet comment section completely showing how little they understand barrels. I have two AR’s that will actually shoot ten shot 1.0 moa groups…. Neither one is chrome lined 😂 the MR is NOT the 416, it’s just not.

The chrome lining really only matters to cloners. I’ll take a highly accurate barrel with HK’s lifetime warranty all day.
