Thanks for the video. Despite being a bit foggy you did everything I needed to know and I could follow fine. IT was reassuring. My gunk did need the lid removing and wiping clean as it it had adhered to the centre even when magnet removed. You were luck that your filer was installed on horiizontal pipe as mine was on vertical. This put me in a panic as removal of the lid was tough first of all and this loosened the fittings for the filter. The top one was inaccessible by the pipe and filter itself but twisting the filter tightened this joint enough and I could tighten the bottom with a spanner. I also needed to dose the system with x800 for a clean and your video helped me do this. One problem I found is that the filter lid has a catch position so twist it around to seat it properly and make a good seal. I did not do this first time and it leaked.

I used this video plus a couple of others today, works fine if you follow it. I would just add that IF you take the top off and clean the "spike" inside, be careful putting the seal back and make sure it is fitted properly or water seeps out of the top (from experience!). The video is clearly a new unit, once it's been in place a few years the seal sticks a little but is manageable and I am no DIY expert by any stretch. I found an easier way is to close the valves, remove the magnet, wait 30 seconds to let the sediment settle, then open the drain (on the unit) and open the valve into the unit from your heating system, this will effectively flush most of the muck out. I did it a couple of times and only took the top off because I was still getting muck coming out. With the "spike" out & cleaned, flush was clear. If you then close the drain (on the unit) it is more or less filled and only needs minimal bleeding.

Ron Baber Your comment is now two years old so you may not be interested. Replace the seal, but as well use a film of silicon grease, which does not harm rubber products.Auto parts stores commonly stock a variety of silicon greases. Sil Glyde is a product available since the fifties,an industry standard in North America. Or GE makes a related product. There are others.

When I removed the pull out magnet and back flushed as per instructions, hardly any debris came out; so I took the lid off. I found a tube completely coated is self adhering debris, which I wiped off. The filter is supplied with a cap removal spanner and a spare gasket. The manufacturer appears to think the cap should be removed. I regard it as essential. I don't need to endure the risk of all that sludge getting into my ASHP heat exchanger.

Hmmm..no need to dismantle the filter I say.. Isolate the filter > Remove the magnet > Wait for a minute or two for the bits to reach to the bottom > Open the drain valve to drain the filter to a bucket > Gently open one of isolator valve so the rest of the muck drains to bucket >Close the isolator valve > Close the drain valve > If necessary open the top silver valve in order to add inhibitor > Close it> Open both isolator valves >Bleed the air from bleed valve (for non Combi system) > Top up the pressure (Combi) >Start the system, check for leaks...Problem with dismantling the filter, after a while the top seal becomes deter rated and when you put it back it can leak (unless you have a spare new seal)

Just moved into a house with one of these fitted. Nearly followed these instructions for cleaning it out. However this is an incorrect way of cleaning. Follow the quick clean guide available from the fernox website!

1) The video is foggy, can't really see what you are doing. 2) The explanation of the various phases are approximative and not thorough, for ex what do you use to open the bottom? 3) What is a Scale Inhibitor? Is it the equivalent of a Fernox protector ? Sorry...
