It's crazy how Cody started out and his mindset of expanding. Kind of like buying one real-estate property and using that property to buy another and so on.

What he's built and how easy he makes it look to maintain is really inspiring. Makes me feel hopeful about being able to do a lot of ventures I want to do, but I have to think in a more realistic approach before I get ahead of myself. He didn't go all in on everything at once, he seemed to start with one thing at a time. A great case study for longevity in this online-content industry.

how Cody Ko destroyed his "Perfect" KZbin Business.
@anastasia4089 ай бұрын
i do think noels point hits it the hardest..people are speedrunning their youtube career and content and trying to make it the biggest thing every single time...no wonder they burn out. Cody has time and trial and error on his back that stem several years...his is the best model because he's taken his time with it and people who try to make the same impact in a shorter amount of time simply doesn't work. Hes genuinely a good and funny guy...He's stuck to similar interests, but expanded with new hobbies...he's able to show his life in a way that isn't exploitative or disingenuous. He has genuine fans....not just fans built from shock content or provocative discourses that like 75% of content creators have.....he simply puts out what he enjoys. Its very hard to be liked online and be a face for something that doesn't come of scummy or like youre taking advantage of your fans..both noel and cody are actually funny people, not try hards......at least that's what it comes off as. Like you said, its casual, there's no expectation, and its just about enjoying his side of the internet. As a creative, him having different outlets to express himself and force him to approach creation differently is very healthy and avoid burnout,...even if there's stress there, bc yes we're human, it still shifts your mind to think differently

Fun extra detail you can add to Cody’s empire is that he also has a side business where he sells meme mugs. Cool example of recognising a product will sell through SEO and other means that aren’t just plugging it through a following (This was such a good video btw your editing and camera presence is immaculate)

This video was such a natural progression for any of us chronically onliners. The creators I gravitate toward truly are the Cody's of KZbin, hell even Philly D started doing more casual content that he hopes to enjoy long-term. This was the glue to put us back together after the devastating "My last video" panic, well done! I also wanted to note the beauty of how Cody just innocuously went on paternity leave, kept us AND his baby fed the whole time, while his audience kept the comments full of support as news of baby Oty Ko's arrival spread. There's something special about that specific level of parasocial relationship that I truly think is unifying as it spreads a very pure empathy that people don't get to experience or practice as often. Like seeing how many clusters of fan's supported Cody's NYC run was actually mind boggling. He may or may not have even seen them, but they came, and he was genuinely humbled by it, he tells Kelsey later. Long story long, S tier commentary, new sub acquired, hope Cody cries seeing this.

Tejas! This was an awesome video. I feel like I for sure run into that trap of having to outdo myself every video especially in the automotive niche where spending money is a huge factor. The only trouble I feel is that Cody's audience was mainly built from when he did run on that wheel of trying to outdo each video and come up with more viral concepts. Now that he already has the loyal audience he can cater to them in a much more relaxed way and slowly grow the overall audience. Either way really changed the way I look at things. Nicely done

This is a good point, I also never mentioned how the consumption habit of KZbin has changed so much from back in the day too. It was much easier to make "casual" videos when a large part of your audience came from the subscription tab.

Hey Tejas!! A great point you made which I haven't heard before is the value of segmenting your audience and how important it is to understand who your audience is...given that without an audience, you don't have views, and without views you don't have revenue. I think we should remember that people choose KZbin over other streaming services for the connection to the creator, so why wouldn't we invest in understanding our audiences over pitching the absurd? It was a great take, and I enjoyed your personal reflection!! Video production is always 100!!! That's why we come back here too...we come back for you! Looking forward to the next one!

I think the retiring thing just stems back to the fact that millennials are the first generation to grow old with the Internet. You always associated the Internet as being something for young people because it was new lol. So now that that first generation of creators is getting into their mid 30s and 40s they’re starting to feel like the old guys at the party not realizing that that’s what happens in any job. Like imagine if all actors just stopped working once there were younger cooler actors? They don’t. They just keep doing things for their own audience. That is their own age. I always think about this when I see the streamer Ludwig talking about how he won’t stream in his 30s… As if it’s almost embarrassing or immature… But the viewers watching streams and KZbin who are in their 30s right now… We’ve had the Internet since we were like 7 to 10 years old, depending how fast our parents got it… It’s not like we’re going to turn 35 and suddenly be like, “time to put on the old Cable network TV.” And I don’t understand why, if none of the millennial viewers are logging off, why the millennial creators are. Because now they’re putting millennials in this weird position where we have a few people to watch like MrBeast or Cody or Anthony Padilla… But most people are a lot younger and yes, we can enjoy them, but some of it does seem too young obviously. it’s just strange because I’m 35 and every single person I know watches KZbin. If I bring up say a MrBeast video, every person knows what I’m talking about is if I’m talking about a popular TV show… And that’s whether they have kids or don’t have kids. I don’t have kids and I still watch KZbin. It’s just this weird thing where people got used to only seeing young people on the Internet that they forgot the reason why. And genZ doesn’t seem to get if they try to make millennials embarrassed for being on, frankly, OUR internet (😂), and they make it like this weird thing you have to hide… It’s gonna be even worse when they are a little bit older, which is going to come soon… Because they’ve had KZbin since they were little kids. And when I say KZbin, I mean any form of Internet entertainment, including TikTok, and whatever. If they make it where it’s weird for somebody to be 35 on one of those apps… What are they gonna do in 10 years? When you’re young, you have this mentality like you wake up one day like “time to be an adult!” and you become a different person but that isn’t what happens… Yes, things morph and change as you experience more but you’re still the same person. If you liked video games when you were 25 you like video games when you’re 35… Even if you don’t have time to play them. You watch KZbin and TikTok for entertainment at 25 you’re gonna look for the same type of thing at 35. You’re not just suddenly gonna start going to the movie theater every night because you’re older. 😂 I don’t know I’ll say it one more time if the millennial viewers are not logging off why are the millennial creators?! (which can we just talk about how crazy that would be lol like I’ve had the Internet since second grade and I’m 35… I barely remember without it. and the time when society got fully wrapped up in the Internet was while we were coming of age between middle school and the end of high school. Us no longer doing shit online would literally be like if somebody who was, say, 7 when cars got popular, who started driving at 17, then turned 40 and was like “Cars are for kids. I’m going back to the horse and carriages that I vaguely remember from young childhood.”)
