I’m a senior at a state college and this definitely isn’t my experience. My professors don’t even know how to operate Zoom, so they’re making PowerPoint presentations and sending them to us in lieu of lectures. There will be no graduation ceremony this year. Internships are cancelled. I’ve worked hard for six (very long) years to get my Bachelors, and this is what I get: a diploma in the mail, professors that aren’t teaching, and no ceremony to celebrate the hard work and resilience of myself and my classmates. This sucks.

Agreed. Despite that us as college students are all going through this together, those who are in high up colleges seemed to be in better places than most of us. Myself for example is going to a technical college then I’m transferring to a university this coming fall but with all of this crap going on I don’t know how it’ll impact that as the school I’m transferring to is about $60,000 for four years but if it’s gonna have to be online I think they should lower tuition for everyone especially those who are from out of state as we didn’t ask for this and all colleges should understand that we are paying them for a quality education when in reality we are only receiving none with this pandemic going on.

Don’t quite understand the reason why this video focuses on schools like Harvard, Stanford, Davidson, NYU, or other schools when the majority of students that are affected by this are not in these schools (14 million college students in public schools vs 5 million college students in private schools). What does this mean for state colleges? Community colleges? They don’t have the resources, funding, or reach as Harvard or other expensive private schools. And not to mention the burden on having to transfer courses from in-person to online will be much more of a struggle for the smaller, public schools than Harvard.

Actually the smaller community colleges were already very well set up for this transition as many of them already offered all online courses for people that had to work normal jobs and go to school at night. @beccag27584 жыл бұрын
I'm actually in a community college, and thus far my experience has not indicated being well set off for this. I get we're not losing money in extracurriculars and sports or study abroads, but since it is for people with less income, we have students who were relying on campus computer labs hung out for dry now:( at my community college, the vast majority of classes are in person as well (it tends to act more as the stepping stone to a 4 year, as a way to save money) and online classes were never a thing for our science with labs or the art classes or even most of the foreign languages. I guess what I'm saying is, all students are having a rough time. Big or small college, public or private, this is just an extremely unfortunate situation to be in.

I'm an architecture student and let me tell you one thing. Yes, our work can be done from home, but the experience of having your professor review your work first had can never be replaced by a screen. Plans, sections and all that are all good but then comes presentations. I presented in my room to a screen where half the screens were blacked out and let me tell you, it's not a fun time. They misinterpret, misunderstand and the ping simply doesnt help either. I just hope we dont get graded so harshly cause this whole debacle is really starting to affect how I work as an architect and god knows who else out there as well.

My college, George Mason, moved to online but it's a hot mess. Several professors are using different apps to have us video conference in during class, but one of the apps doesn't work at all and another app used by two of my professors has video but no audio lol. I have no idea why they are all using different apps. But it could be worse - at least I'm not graduating. I would be so upset if my commencement ceremony was cancelled.

Private and elite campuses are the most dramatically hit, as in-person random meetings and activities is a major part of the experience. Community colleges and more technically focused schools already have more capability and experience with online teaching since they're often catering to more professionally distracted students.

Even saddening when I saw the tuition hike up out of nowhere to something in the $70k per year range and it's only been a few years since I graduated, only now to realize 1/3 of their school year and the services and education they paid for won't be delivered. No clue if they'll at least give a partial refund, early congrats, but so many feels for anyone who's a senior right now.

Before the quarantine, I had a job lined up for the summer on campus (which also provided summer housing, which i really needed because i dont have a home to go back to) and a 3.9 GPA for the semester. Now, my job offer got rescinded, my grades dropped because my professors dont know how to use zoom so I had to learn things like quantum mechanics on my own, and the dorms planned to move everyone out by the end of the semester, so i had to find a place to live. I ended up jobless and almost homeless, not to mention all of my professors piling on work at the end of the semester because they figured that everyone was just bored, not trying to survive.

My community college has also moved online. The quality is astronomically lower. It’s just so hard to learn with two 45 minute videos a week + an article. Students doing hands-on trade programs and homeless students and students without stable internet access are getting hit really hard. I’m also going to be a transfer student at a UC this coming fall semester, but for me and other transfer students there’s no way to know if we are actually going to be able to move on to campus.
