more than being a flirt, what he does is treating them as normal people, rather than the fakery of distancing and protocols of the other talkshow hosts. A woman has a natural instinct to detect BS, more so in a world where BS is kind of present 24/7. Craig dealt with them in a very genuine way, and they all appreciated it big time, and with them us, the viewers. he got away with stuff that no other show host would have ever dreamed off, and he was the same with the male guests as well, the most enjoyable show for much, it would have been bullied away of the TV world today by woke standards, but yeah.

Many of Craig's guests weren't A-list celebs, although there were some who were early in their career and eventually "rose to the top". He even interviewed Megan Markle !! (i haven't followed Craig since so i don't know if he's ever referenced that moment since she became Mrs Harry Windsor.) i like to think many of his guests didn't go "further" because they were the honest type and Hollywood doesn't reward people who give their true opinions unreservedly. (it just makes (re-)watching his interviews so refreshingly truthful.

Better than Jimmy Carson? Not really because he basically started that trope of Late Night Shows or at least a pioneer. Conan o'Brien and Craig were on the same level for entertainment and everything else. Kimmel and Fallon are meh at best and Fat Boy is just there.

First off, it was Johnny Carson. He was good, but without competition for guests. Because of that, he got the greatest stars of the day. He was able to let them take over. And they did. Craig, in my opinion, was the best to do it.
