Paul J. Schmidt, owner of Paul Surf, makes and sells surfboards. Each one is made completely by hand and takes about 30 hours of skilled labor. His complex process involves covering a foam base with layers of resin and plexiglass to create safe, functional boards.

An I the only one getting goosebumps seeing him sanding/cutting the foam 😬??? I can't be in the same room as styrofoam without getting goosebumps from hell like when people scratch a blackboard. Just thinking about the sound kills me 😳

I feel a toothed squeegee would be far better. It helps with breaking the surface tension, thus a more even coat. (@/Stone coat countertops anyone?)

I need advice installing a bow eye in a epoxy foam raven paddle board. I plan to pull it behind a electric recumbent bicycle , with a yeti cooler and some ice and drinks on top while towing, I plan to have two bicycle wheels at the back. I have 4 tie points up front but need a tie point at the very front and it has to be strong. My plan is to either drill a horizontal hole large enough to glue a piece of carbon fiber tube with like a 6" set back from the tip from side to side of the board or drill a long hole at the bow to glue in a stainless eye bolt. Can someone please give me some suggestions please. Thanks

I know the guy is striving for perfection in his boards when he stares down the center of it. But I wonder. Could a small bump in the board really have a big effect on a person's performance?

Yes, dents and dings (which include bumps) on a board affects the drag and currents traveling along the board. I am not sure about tiny tiny ones but think of it as a dimple for water to slow the board down or affect your turning.

Most wouldn’t notice it, most performance short boards are made with very light fiber glass. They pressure dent pretty easily. I’ve had boards that were dented all over, I repaired holes in. And they still rode just fine.

@@lemmykilmister545 the round pink cartridges (3M 2091) are for dust but he was working with epoxy and should use an organic vapor cartridge like the 3M 6001

I love how they wasted so much resin for the video only but in real life some glassers do not waste as much. This is polyester resin which is cheaper. I would love to see the same waste with epoxy resin. Way too much money. I save as much resin as possible.
