From 1960 up to 1976 no hosts or final was pre-ordained, each Nation who won the qualifying group then had to play a two legged Home and Away Quarter-Final. The Four winning teams of those matches then negotiated witch Nation would Host the semi-finals - third place play-off and Final. The very first pre-ordained Final venue and Hosts was Italy in 1980.

It is disputed whether the proposal came from the German players themselves or from the German Football Association. Some sources state that the players were actually suprised by the short-term change of the rules. Nowadays of course this would never happen. Imagine in 2022 the French and Argentinian players and/or associations agree that the World Cup final would be decided with a replay rather then a penalty shoot-out.

Man i love your videos! I have watched you since the world cup 1930 and i am also a subscriber of your channel. When you are done with the euro can you start with copa america.It is a long and old tournament and it has been around since 1916 and since it takes so long maybe you could do a video once or twice a week and then you can start with africa and even aisa. Plot teist:When you finish on international stage you can start with club competitions the ucl,acl etc

Germanyy deserved to lose and I say that as a german. The fact alone that the players were more worried about their holiday bookings than the final shows their arrogant attitude. Maier being angry at Panenka was also extremely childish, but you tend to see that kind of behaviour often in our national team, sadly.

Yes, I did find it a bit strange that he saw the penalty as an attempt to mock him. It was clearly an effective technique that worked.
