Thyroid Cancer is weird in the sense that if you were over 55 with say Stage 4 and then suddenly somehow you were under 55 instead it would be capped at Stage 2. The treatments for aggressive variants have come quite a ways in the last few years. Where even anaplastic has options other than... well what it used to have.

Why don’t doctors want to do RFA instead of going straight to surgery?
@joyceb481 Жыл бұрын
GOOD ?
@CK-ok2sq Жыл бұрын
Rfa has risks. There is a risk of thyroid capsule collapse or damage to nerves. Also depends where the nodule is grown. I know since I went to 3 rfa doctor. Still searching for answers..
@HR-wd6cwАй бұрын
From the doctors I've talked to and worked with, they chose surgery first, and then RFA if they find cells later (as a second option), but not the first. I think some doctors may just not want to recommend the surgery or they talk patients out of it, which I think is bad advice. Present both to the patient and let them decide. For me, I decided to have my thyroid removed as I don't want to monitor something that has been labelled as cancerous (even though it's small). From what I have read though while RAI has risks, if you have to get low doses of it and not very often, the risks are quite minimal. Some papers have equated a low dose to what you'd get in radiation from a standard x-ray for example (I think that's about 30-50 rCI). I think where the risks become more of a concern is if you need several RAI sessions and/or high doses.

@HR-wd6cwАй бұрын
I think it's quite low, but you need to follow your doctor's orders as to follow-ups, which I think are something like every year (or maybe every 6 months) for about 5 years to track it and see if it comes back so you can address it in a timely fashion if it does. (Since most of the thyroid cancer classes grow slowly, six months is probably the minimum they would have you come back).
@HR-wd6cwАй бұрын
@@HeatherBDentureDiVa Not necessarily. It can still come back as some cells could be too small to detect, which is why it's important to follow up with your doctor regularly (I think annually, at least, for a few years after surgery). But the risk of it coming back I think is low in general.

CAN THYROID CANCER BE FIND FROM A BLOOD TEST FROM THE ARM?
@lv13david Жыл бұрын
Yes. You can get your thyroglobulin antibody level tested with a blood test. Other thyroid related levels can be indicators of something being wrong. These measurements can be evidence of cancer but you will still need an ultrasound and biopsy to know for certain what's going on.
