LocalThunk is great and I wasn’t surprised by any of the impressive feats mentioned in the video. The biggest shock of the video is that a game informer quote was used, implying that still exists

Seeing another Mechanical Engineering student go to Indie Game Dev is inspiring. I'm an ME student that wants to become an indie dev myself. Hopefully I can make something even a tenth as fun as Balatro

Alright, now I have to buy this game now. This is the indie scene potential I aspire to assist and someday join.

I’m a triple A gamer primarily, upset at innovation dying in the triple a space. but seeing stuff like this shows me that creativity is alive and well in the indie space. Love to see gamers rewarding a dev who made a fantastic game

promoting this game is fine but the creator cant even understand why his game got a high pegi rating. its literally gambling. and he wants kids to be able to play it. its weird. kids can play those ea games hes talking about because they are sports and they can play sports at anytime. gambling on the other hand...

I never really knew that this was his development process. Honestly, hearing all this is rather nice - I want to really work on game development as a hobby (but all I have is the ability to code, eventually maybe 3d modeling) and seeing this is a good sign for me to relax more.

There were so many better games this year, and one of the games in the running for GOTY was a glorified poker game. What the hell have we come to.

I was obsessed with it for a month. I at least got all decks and got to ante 12 once but no further. Absolutely astonished by how pros do their strat. I’m just grateful there are no microtransactions tho, I’d have wasted sooo much money lol

I'm glad Balatro doesn't use rpg levels. +2% of x is boring and done to death.

I never comment on videos but this deserves it! As a game student triple majoring in art, design, and programming, Balatro is one of my favorite games of all time for several reasons. -The art is simple yet unique and charming, making this game easy to wind down to at the end of the day. -The program doesn't seem like anything terribly complex (and I could only imagine how easily recyclable it would be throughout game modes). -And lastly THE DESIGN! The traditional card deck is easily the most iconic medium with which to design games. Balatro really stood out to me because it's easy to understand for non-gamers, but has a difficulty scale based on how the player learns and plays. I will vouch for this game for the rest of my life, not only because it was nominated for Game of the Year as an indie title, but also because it's a gateway for those completely new to gaming.

He's not wrong. There's a lot of amazing hidden gems that don't make numbers. The fact that he enjoys the game making process means he's already won the moment he sat down to open up his coding program. His success was just a neat consequence.

Thank you for this story, the irony of this game being flagged in countries for gambling for having a look or feel of gambling where gambling has taken a pretty big hold of the gaming industry is pretty funny and sad. I'm inspired by this person love of creating

This is such a great game. I'd love my children to be able to play it. Hopefully when he adds loot boxes and microtransactions, they can finally try it out for themselves. Really interesting video. The way the developer treated the music guy is amazing. I'm definitely interested in whatever he makes next.

I still have no idea why it's popular. The fun part completely eludes my mind, and I'm the "gambling addict" of gaming. It's gameplay should appeal to me if it's good. It doesn't. It's rather boring at best.

When I first played Inscryption, I had never heard of it, knew nothing about it or its dev. I just thought it was another quirky little game my best friend had bought me for this time. But it was so much more, it was way more fun than I thought. It had amazing gameplay and art direction and music and characters I was invested in. At first I thought I would just play it a couple hours tops and move on, not well over 100.

When Balatro came out, I was fully convinced it wasnt for me. Im nit kuch of a card or deck builder game player. I ended up with like $20 in google credit and said "fuck it, lets give it a go". Cue me playing Balatro until 5am for the next two weeks. Love this game
