The UK’s democracy isn’t under threat, however it is highly flawed and Brexit threatens how much we trust our politicians, undermining electoral turnout and damaging the legitimacy of our institutions. Furthermore, the Queen is bound to die within the 2019-2030 period and hence we must brace of a new king and the implications of such a huge transformation. Lastly, if the last 20 years of British politics has displayed anything, it is that our ‘unwritten constitution’ has failed us. With the increasing complexity of international politics,economics and economic planning,the sheer incomprehensibility of it all by the average citizen and the need of specialized departments and specialized knowledge and the intricate inter-management of these departments,the democratic election of a person to hold an office will not be on the bases of competence and it will all be brought down to the sheer impulses triggered by advertising and convincing and people will go to pick who they ‘feel’ who’s right and not who’s actually right to hold an office,dealing with the world complexity emotively will sure be far from good and increasingly destructive,so I don’t know why you consider the higher the democratic index the better it is,and it’s not a surprise there is a growing skepticism of this method of political order.

No country on earth is a democracy. The only democracy is that which those in power will allow. For instance. It is often said that Britain is a democracy and the politicians must obey the will of the people. False. Britain is a Constitutional Monarchy. This means that soveriegn power devolved down from the crown to Parliament. Parliament and MP's swear allegiance to the monarch, remember Jerry Adams refusing to do that and was excluded from his seat even though he was a constitutionally elected MP? The right to vote is actually a franchise, and as such not a right at all. So, when a duly elected Member of Parliament enters the House he is there to serve the crown, not the people.

"Democracy" means government by the demos - the people. A vote in a popularity poll to select an oligarchy to dictate toys for a fixed term may be "Representative Government", but it is not democracy. Certain Swiss cantons and the Isle of Man come the closest, but frankly there has never been a " democracy". Even the vaunted example of Classical Athens was government by the free, male citizens of a certain age - no women, slaves, foreigners or children need apply. Plato had a very low opinion of democracy as government by the self-interest of the mob: a perfectly valid objection- but his idea of the "Philosopher King" was a tad impractical. I live in a country which has mandatory voting and consequently a high donkey vote. If we expect people to participate in what Churchill described as the worst system apart from the alternatives, we need an education system which prepares us for the OBLIGATIONS of citizenship and which creates analytical thinking and awareness of issues, instead of political indoctrination.

How democratic is my country (UK)? If I'm honest, we'll see.. if Parliament doesn't deliver Brexit then prove our democracy is only skin deep. After all, if they can ignore 1 vote and it's ok, that basically sets the precedence that Parliament can ignore any vote in future.. exactly the same logic applies to the case of a second referendum - if UK gets second EU referendum, why not Scotland? If multiple referenda are ok, then why not second (or third, or fourth...) general elections? No-deal Brexit or May's deal are only available options if the UK is to remain a democracy

The current political system based upon Nation will change into humanitarian-based democracy which is possible through world wide networked communication. Therefore, the governments in the world will have more struggle in controling or moderating their own people. But the forcing trials will be likely to fail if there's no Empathy, understanding to each other.

What a load of crap. Why would you say that
@veganfood36496 жыл бұрын
Because group's of people killed common people in the name of gao Raksha, anti-national, naxal, urban naxal etc. But government of India can't doing anything. They appreciate this types of killing by giving prize to them. Giving prizes by Member of parliament, Chief minister and local government. So this is not a sign of democratic country.

Yeah, every country should be like the UK and their referendums. The Brexit mess is enviable...
