One of the few more level headed, fair, and reasonable reactions to the AJ news. You guys know your stuff. All the best!

Great discussion. There was no disrespect to BYU or Utah in this program. Being a BYU alumnus, and a current megafan, I am not sure how anyone would consider the discussion disrespectful or hateful. I thought it was quite good. BYU has always been very competitive. Everything said was correct...It is a great fan base. We are willing to chip in for great talent...NIL does change the landscape. Those colleges which have a very active fan base willing to donate will see great talent come their way. It is terrific that we have Kevin Young as a very experienced NBA level coach. The team will get better and better. This year is exciting to watch. Next year will be even better.

Absolutely every statement you made is a ridiculous lie and completely pathetic, byu and utah deserve all the disrespect in the world for their insanely disrespectful and pathetic schooling model, also the fact that it's in a sundown town, byu has never been legtitimately competitive, never been, their fanbase is beyond pathetic and it's just a bunch of racist mormons, byu's team will never get legitimately better and contender for anything, you sundowntowners are incredibly pathetic, and to you clowns complaining about how much he got paid, the lds church is worth 150 billion, and aj is generating far more value than he's getting paid, you guys are pathetic and a joke of a fanbase

BYU has 5 billionaires graduates living within 10 miles of their campus. They don’t need any tithing money. Those guys are the richest school in America.

FWIW, the NIT was the way to select the best college basketball team before the NCAA and its tourney. BYU won the NIT. In 1951, but still...

Along with NIL, BYU has a NBA coach and NBA support staff. Any kid who wants to go to the NBA would make a good decision to look at BYU and get introduced to the NBA court life. There is real value in that experience. AJ is very smart for this move.

The environment at BYU is so very attractive for a young athlete who wants to focus on his/her sport , academics, and a bit of social life with Christian guys/gals. The Marriott arena is loaded with tons of excitement with rabid fans. Parents are on side as well. As an aside, Not one dime of LDS charitable dollars goes to NIL.

3 of 4 schools had the same NIL offers. AJ’s parents kept the numbers private from AJ and allowed him to make his choice. AJ picked the school on other factors not knowing what the NIL offers were.

Powers are shifting in college sports, and that's why you're seeing the panic in the SEC for football. They're terrified to lose the advantage they've had for decades.

Good discussion and salient points. Ultimately i think cream of the crop bball recruits will have a much higher hit rate (worth being paid what they get) than football but regardless the shelling out of money for what are believed to be top-tiered players is going to be fascinating to watch

BYU just sent a message to both high school recruits and other schools, that they are in it to win it, and it is a NBA prep school ready to help players get there.

Deranged lies, nil did all the recruiting, y'all will have to offer up way more than anyone else to get any prospects, no one would willing go to a sundown town mormon school in utah otherwise

Contrast this with BYU’s recruitment of Jabari Parker a few years ago, where he was also a member of BYU’s sponsoring church.

The NIL played into some of this. Watch the interview with ESPN. AJ’s dad did not tell him what the amounts were until after AJ made the decision. He left the money out of the picture. Go watch it. BYU has a full NBA staff. The real question is “How did BYU keep it quiet for 2.5 weeks?” You want these guys, show respect and not leak things out. That is one of the big reasons they liked BYU.

Think NBA prep (coaching staff) and family atmosphere. Pay was similar ~$5M for schools. Plus $1M Nike, plus $1M Red Bull. Pops set the amount, and AJ chose the school. That's the deal. BYU '82

Transfer portal: Yes, schools will at first go to the transfer portal heavier. but, over time, the NIL contracts will have stipulations about repayment of NIL money if they go to the transfer portal or leave early for any of the leagues. The schools are not stupid, and neither are the players. For now, a deal like Dybantsa's with BYU make a TON of sense for the schools trying to get to the next level. That said, BYU doesn't get AJ Dybantsa without the program they have in place with NBA coaches ALL OVER THE PLACE including Kevin Young that has 15ish years in the NBA and has interviewed for NBA head coaching jobs! Additionally the schools will need NBA-like programs, offenses, strength and conditioning, nutrition, facilities, and don't forget FANS!!!! BYU HAS ONE OF THE BEST IF NOT THE BEST production value in the Marriot center. it's incredible! that is coming from a Duke and BYU Alumnus.

The insane amount of pathetic bias in your comment is alarming, byu has nothing that can be considered anything remotely close to the best at anything, byu is a sundown town mormon school in Utah, y'all lames only get recruits cus you overpay, F byu

Maybe programs like yours, need to actually interview the player. This isn’t all about money. There was a whole lot more, that made him decide on BYU.

Ryan Smith was not the top individual contributor to the AJ NIL. Two other billionaires contributed more. Supposedly 10 billionaires live within 5 miles of the BYU campus.

Why would anybody be shocked these days? Who ever offers the most money gets the top recruits! Media and colleges try to sweep this under the rug, (because it’s kind of an ugly look) but who ever is ready to spend the most money will get the best players. Pretty clear BYU has a big sugar daddy!

Sounds like you're just a hater on the State of Utah, when you talked about the Utah Hockey Team... and BYU...where are you guys from?? Some 3rd World Country?? Your messages sounds negative about BYU., WHY??? BYU can't recruited the #1 prospect in the USA?? OR... can't get any basketball player or football player they wanted..??? Did you loose any $$ or jealous because of the resources of how much BYU has to offered AJ to come play at the place, where he will not ONLY a NBA player and filthy rich, but a BETTER MAN and future FATHER himself to his souse and kids. GO COUGS!!✊✊

Everybody gets paid now that they have nil.... it doesn't matter where they go to school, the purpose of nil is for the athletes to get paid. What really matters is all the schools were offering the same amount of money but he chose BYU over the others because they have more to offer than just money.
