What a moment for Philippine basketball! This takes the sting of Mason transferring to La Salle out a little bit lol If I may nitpick a bit, we need someone to play well off the bench. It was so apparent how the level of play suffered when Kai, Justin, Junemar, New, or Dwight needed to take a breather. The +/- numbers bear that out. But again, wow!

We may have won, but that 4th quarter is a red flag on how we collapse to pressure defense. Newsome kinda made a lot of clumsy errors at the 4th, offensive fouls, unable to inbound the ball with composure, unable to make smart decisions when double-teamed ,that would've been detrimental if this were close match. Newsome stood out as a sore thumb for me. But damn, feels good beating a European team, and a powerhouse team. We finally beat a Euro team after 64 years.

Exactly. First off, agree na sarap talaga feeling after 64 years. But yeah, the 4th quarter "collapse" will be discussed for sure but next game up agad so hopefully we keep that in mind!

It seened like Gilas was intentionally slowing the ball down on the fourth. Likely to take advantage of the lead and give the players respite, which Latvia capitalized with quick back to back baskets to cut the lead.

Magaling lang tactics and system ni CTC, control nila phasing ng laro using half court offense triangle, control nila both offensive and defensive board kaya basag game plan ng Latvia gusto bilisan, hahaha. Defense is the best offense ganda defensive switches ng Gilas..JB lang ang kailangan team player, muntik na mag triple double battling sa players ng rank no.6 sa World. Wow!!!

Finally no more moral victory... A few years ago a bunch of collegiate players already proved na kaya naman talaga makipagsabayan ng mga Pinog sa world stage. Ngayon lang talaga nag culminate ang lahat lahat coach lang talaga na naniniwala talaga at may maayos na sistema.

Congrats to the players and coaching staff. Great defense by bothering the perimeter shooters of Latvia, and our big men were able to hang with their frontline. Still, there's a part of me feeling that Latvia underestimated us and paid for it, and on the flip side, we lost the aggressiveness in the fourth quarter by playing to milk the clock. Latvia had a lot of open shots, they just bricked them. I hope this win doesn't breed overconfidence against Georgia. We were up against Poland in the exhibition game and we choked it away in the second half. Brownlee over Clarkson is a classic example of choosing for fit over talent. Clarkson is a certified bucket-getter but he is awful on defense and an absolute black hole. Brownlee is primarily a hustle player with some offensive skill and knows how to pick his spots. Furthermore, while I won't cast shade on Clarkson, Brownlee really loves playing for the national team. He is not just a hired gun like Andray Blatche.

Blatche was a great get for us. At one point, both him and JaVale McGee were scouted to give Gilas some size. The investment paid off and by all accounts, he wasn't just about the money. Let's not kid ourselves that he was a model citizen off the court, not like consummate pros like Brownlee, the late Bobby Parks, or Sean Chambers. Also, the economics of having him play full-time for us was too difficult to manage. What he made in the CBA would pay for an entire PBA roster.
