Yes, this Junior College bit was not easy to understand. The guy is 23 years of age. He's an Open Grade athlete. Who cares what level of College he goes to or even that he goes to College? It has NO bearing on his performance. Congrats to him on his time and I hope he continues to improve so that he has a chance to make his Countries Olympic team. I wish him good luck.

This guy has an outside chance of qualifying for the Olympics, but Noah Lyles, Letsile Tebogo and Erriyon Knighton are still just way better
@kc5466
@kc5466 7 ай бұрын
The Olympics shouldn’t be too hard for him to get to considering he’s going to be competing for Zimbabwe. And I assume he is the fastest 200m runner from that nation currently. The only thing that can prevent him from not making it is the Olympic qualifying standard time. But his time will have to significantly improve if he wants a medal.

I love these amazing videos, but FACT CHECK: Letsile Tobogo was NOT the first African male sprinter to earn a global medal in the sprints. Aziz Zakari of Ghana did this in 2005. If you also count Francis Obikwelu, (who competed for Portugal for most of his pro career, BUT competed for his native Nigeria until age 22) you have two more African global medals, as a Junior athlete and a U23 athlete.
@TotalRunningProductions
@TotalRunningProductions 7 ай бұрын
2005 worlds was Justin Gatlin in first, followed by Michael Frater and Kim Collins. As for Francis, yes he won a world junior title but no senior title. For the purpose of this video, we intended to state that no african male athlete had previous won a world senior medal in the world championships, which stands true for Tebogo. It was actively celebrated in the post conference moments after he won silver in Budapest.

@@TotalRunningProductionsI see that Aziz has two IAAF World Athletics Finals medals in the 100m in 2004 and 2005. Also a junior college is not the same thing as high school, it’s a college that only goes for 2 years.

The table at 3:37 already got outdated, even though it's been just a couple hours since posting xD Marek Zakrzewski ran 20.80 in Luxembourg which is U20 European record. Still, a massive gap between 20.80 and sub-20.30...

But that guy is a teenager with just 18 years presumably whilst the guy shown here in the video just went goes to a junior college I think but he isn't a junior nor an U23 but rather he is 23 so a senior athlete.
@ravciozo7517
@ravciozo7517 6 ай бұрын
@@decaDBZ to be fair, I don't know the American naming scheme for age groups in athletics, so I just pointed out to some race times I knew. I don't know what age is "junior", "college" or "going to junior college", if there even is a specified age. That's also why this "Under-XX" naming standard is so great - it's uniform and understandable. I also always strive to understand the Dutch convention with stuff like Jongens A, B etc. Luckily, they're getting more and more rid of that, just like Polish athletics got rid of age group names like "młodzicy", "juniorzy", "juniorzy młodsi", "młodzieżowcy" and just resorted to U-16, U-18, U-23 and so on. Just thought I will share that here, maybe someone agrees or disagrees :D
@decaDBZ
@decaDBZ 6 ай бұрын
@@ravciozo7517yeah I also don't quite understand the American terms- I'm from Ireland. Just commenting because someone above mentioned that the guy actually isn't a junior ie I20 but just went to some junior high etc whatever that's referring to but he's actually 23. But yes the international standard being for example Under18 and Under20 which is Youth and Junior, respectively.
