Well even Anne Boleyn didn't want him at the beginning. She was engaged to someone else. But Henry did his best to stop it and wanted to make her his mistress. And as I know, such as Marry who become non-legitimate, that's what happened with Elizabeth too, when Henry married Jane and Anne was executed. And it's known that Jane forbid Henry to see Elizabeth.

While misogynistic to us it makes sense from a 16th century standpoint. The Tudors' greatest asset was that their dynasty ended the Wars of the Roses. A son kept that fragile peace intact and prevented a possible return to all that bloodshed. Henry was focused on the peace and stability of his kingdom with the only logic that was available to him at that time.

It was his older brother Arthur who was the heir, but he died in his teenage years. So Henry knew that without male heirs the country may fell into turmoil with another war for succesion. His obsession with wanting sons becomes more understandable if you take historical context and his personal experiences into account.

@Sadie Mezzo I am not sure I understand. Anne B. didn't go anywhere, certainly not to another country while the monster that was Henry VIII was pursuing her. From what I understand she had spent several years in France, but this was years before Henry VIII had pursued her, when she was a young teen to late teen years, I believe from what I have read that, Anne B. came back to England from France when she was like 20 years old, or something to that effect. She also spent a brief period in Flanders if I remember correctly.

I think hygiene was a main factor in the mothers mothers life or death during pregnancy and birth as well as birth however i wonder why there were so many new born deaths. Maybe and maybe not. She may have other children but it would probably most likely be very scarce. Henry supposedly had a rare gen that was passed to his children. His wives didn't have these genes so that is why the had miscarriages, plus emotions. With him sleeping around these probably caused emotions to be high if one of his ladies was found. Different emotions can affect the baby.

Pregnancy and delivery does put a huge strain on a woman's body. I've had friends with normal pregnancies have a sudden crisis. I have a friend whose daughter died in childbirth due to an amniotic embolism. Fortunately, most of the time things go fine, but the risk can never be completely eliminated.

Jane Seymour is definitely the most underrated of Henry VIII’s wives. She doesn’t get enough recognition for being the one who reconciled Henry with his eldest daughter. Jane greatly admired COA and was an ardent supporter of hers, which is why she fought to restore Mary to the line of succession. Despite the risk of meddling in his affairs, Jane knew it was the right thing to do.

She was and wasn't. She was manipulated by her family to want the throne. She wasn't the sharpest pencil in the case, so there is a possibility that letter never reached her and that it was one of her brothers or sister who received it and sent it back, so maybe it wasn't her who said she wanted a "virtuous marriage" or maybe they were just repeating what Anne had said all those years prior. She was a catholic who loved Catherine of Aragon and hated Anne for "making" Henry leave the "true faith", so, in her mind it wasn't wrong for her to get cozy with the king bc Anne wasn't his wife in the eyes of the catholic church.

Jane wasn't always as nice as we believe. Only a few days or weeks after Anne's passing, she accepted Henry's proposal and married Henry. That, in my opinion, indicates that the person is just concerned with herself! And I know that in that day and era, it was expected of her to become a "spinster," so I suppose she accepted the king's offer because, well, why not? In those days, it was the best you could get. Furthermore, Jane had nothing else going for her. Again, I understand why she accepted Henry's offer, but if she had been as "sweet" as everyone claimed, she would have approached the situation differently.

That's true! I mean, she was literally a lady in waiting for both Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn. She knew exactly how to behave and what to say to make him happy. But of course, having a boy was the most important thing. If she had given birth to a girl and survived, Henry would get rid of her and I believe that she would be beheaded like Anne because her family wasn't that powerful just like the Boleyn's.

Cindy Araya Sam thing. Chorioamnionitis, sepsis, it’s all infection related to birth. The more hands in there, gloved and washed or not, the higher chance of infection. Today we have antibiotics to help most cases, but women still die from it. ~Ob/Gyn RN

There was a documentary a few years ago that said the Midwives who attended her where not up to scratch and that court midwives were not up the the task . They were only used to births that went well . This was the view of modern Midwives who practiced both in hosptial and in home births . They were basically inexperienced

They are not females we should hate and they were victims of Henry and their own family.

There was no political advantage for Jane to elevate Mary back into the line of succession, yet see did so anyway. What would have been to her advantage was to elevate family into positions of power in court. This was what all non-foreign Queens, whether it was her predecessor Ann Boelyn or Henry's own grandmother Elizabeth Woodville etc. immediately started doing on becoming Queen. This Jane Seymour did not do. I think this proves that she wasn't this ruthless ambitious person as implied at 1:10 but someone with a legitimately compassionate heart. It's kind of England's loss as she most likely would have tempered Henry's wild excesses and execution sprees of his later years had she lived.

However, their greatest climb was _after_ Jane was already dead (so obviously not through any maneuvering on her part) but _by dint of them being uncles of the future king_ and Henry's retained fondness for Jane right up to his deathbed (where he is supposed to have proclaimed that she was his one true Queen and commanded that he be buried beside her).

In a letter to Lady Lisle about her daughter Anne Bassett, Sir John Russell wrote the queen had said Anne could not wear her French hoods, and that she must obtain “a bonnet and frontlet of velvet.” However, Mikhaila points out that Anne’s French hoods were given to other prominent ladies of the court. Also, Jane’s own wardrobe accounts include “one French whode of blac Vellat.” Anne Bassett, Jane’s maid of honour who was forced to give away her French hood, was said to be a great beauty, and was also a rumored mistress of the king. She arrived at court in 1537, and is said to have begun an affair with Henry between 1538 and 1539, although no contemporary records exist to prove this.
