Bruins fan here - heavily rooting for the Oilers. Take it from me. Florida succeeds when you try to beat them at their own game. Clogging the neutral zone, chip and chase, board battles. Gotta play to your own strengths and make them play your style or it's going to be rough. If you can win the blue line with the puck, they are vulnerable to how much skill is on your team.

Florida can try to play a chippy game, but they haven't faced a team that can burry them on the power play yet.

Rishaug said the word twice "TRUST" was the difference there was a trust with the coach and Connor and that worked it's way through the whole organization and that was what changed the dynamics of the dressing room! They will be back here next year also! And for the years to come they will be Tampa Bay and the old Oliers all over again! TRUST! Is everything

How Rishuag, Gregor and Spector still have job is beyond me. The city deserves a better breed of journalism tbh Gino’s take was awesome, we all know Rishaug doesn’t know anything. This guy thought Barrie wasn’t replaceable, why is he acting like he knows anything lol. Most of us who dont even see the players everyday knew that Bouchard was going to be epic, knew Holloway was a top 6 capable player and Broberg was a young Ekky in the making. I truly cannot believe Rishaug is still employed lol

Todd McLellan was an objectively bad coach that actively publicly scapegoated players (mostly Europeans) he didn't like, arbitrarily benched bottom six players without explanation, and refused to hold the star plays accountable for their obvious defensive failings. Tippett was a poor fit who continued the coaching trend of overplaying the stars and then blaming the players that didn't get ice time for the losses. Woodcroft was a good coach but he was unwilling to make the lineup changes he needed, especially with goaltending, to get the team over the hump. He would rather lose with his guys than make a change to win, and it cost him in both his playoff runs. Knoblauch has shown he's willing to sit players that aren't producing even if it means putting someone in that makes less money to do it. That takes guts as a coach.

The Oilers faced the terrible Kings three straight years in Round 1 of the playoffs and thrashed them. The Canucks lacked playoff experience so the Oilers did them in. The Stars’ Peter DeBoer was out coached by rookie coach Kris Knoblauch!

Florida faced an injured Lightning team also aging out, they faced a Boston team without any good Cs compared to last year and were lucky to face a Rangers team who most of us knew were nothing more than a goalie even if the media couldn’t figure that one out. The Panthers actually had an easy path this year whereas last year they had a path similar to the Dallas Stars playing the Knights, Avs and finally the Oilers. Both teams should be well rested and be tested by their hardest competition. I am still of the belief that if the Canes didn’t choke against the Rangers, they would be the ones in the final and not the Panthers

Keep McLeod and Perry with Drai unless its proven to not work. Kane and Holloway with Rico on the 3rd adds another layer of pressure to their offence along with a solid 4th line. Carrick in, Ryan out. Vinny in, Ceci out. Broberg stays.
@TheWarawaj5 ай бұрын
I agree with everything you said except Vinnie in. Yes C squared is bad. But He is a better skater and puck handler than our buddy Vinnie. I love Vinnie, I do. But Broberg has shown us he is better. And I hate to say this, but C squared is better than Vinnie right now. Vinnie is more heart and better smothering people. But I tense up a little when he's in the O zone on the point with forwards rushing at him. Ceci, I tense up in the D zone. I know it isn't better, its just my opinion.
@RajBauer5 ай бұрын
@@TheWarawajI totally agree with you, love Vinnie but I keep him out until Ceci shows he cant keep up. No way you take the puck movement of Broby out of the lineup and I agree Carrick is necessary even though DR is a better faceoff man

On the topic of the early part of the season, we need to at least look at the data. The Oilers were near the top of the league offensively and defensively on almost every goaltending-independent statistic. And they were at the bottom of the league in virtually every goaltending stat. In the games that the goaltending was decent, the Oilers win. Once the goaltending got good/great, they went on ridiculous winning streaks. Yes, many factors played into the turnaround...but let's not ignore the one factor staring us in the face.

It's because Jay Woodcroft was trying to implement a zone defense that he had heard about that was analytically awesome, but was designed for a team of crap players. It did not resonate well at all with the team. Hence the firing, and the hiring.

Mostly right except Knoblauch coaches a zone defense system as well, he just has more experience with it so he was more successful implementing it.

The oilers only have a powerplay just wait until florida plays physical every shift plus florida has the goaltending and can score
@schrempskynate89445 ай бұрын
They have the best PP, the best PK and score even strength equal to their opposition. Vancouver thought that they could bulldoze Edmonton physically, but that backfired. I hope Florida's coaching staff and players are as myopic as their fans 🙏

I don’t agree with your analysis of Skinner, sorry. When the team is skating and hitting and putting their sticks in the way then Skinner can do his job very nicely. When the team stands around and watches no goalie will help them win the game. Simple as that.

5 minite boarding call on Ryan that wasn't called. Highsticking on Hyman wasn't called. I also love that Nucks fans tear down their best player feom that series to try and "own" the oilers and make excuses for the loss. The Canucks were dominated jn every single statistical category, the only reason it went 7 was because of that 3rd string goalie that you're crapping on right now. Maybe Hughes and Pete should've shown up?
