Something about"If it looks good, that's all that matters." reminds me of a quote from Andrew Lesnie on Fellowship of the Ring. He was asked where a light was supposed to be coming from and replied, "Same place as the music."

“If it looks good, that’s all that matters.” Great quote. Applies more often than some would feel comfortable, but we have to always remember that audiences won’t notice if the beauty overtakes the “continuity” or motivation. And of course great performances and story will very much occupy their attention.

Hello! Your channel is really awesome. I was curious if you could point me to one or some of your videos that talk about which settings to use inside of the camera to match the lighting you are doing on set - I seem to struggle dialing in my camera settings just right. or maybe there is a channel you know that focuses on lighting/settings for Sony cameras? I am using a Sony FX3. I am sure you are a busy guy and I don't want to bother you, thank you in advance. Thank you for sharing these tips and tricks on your channel for free. It is so helpful.

You’re awesome man, I dig these little nuggets that are jam packed with a ton of info and allows me to just learn so much quicker. Question - when they bring that dolly arm in for the shot at 0:07, is someone operating the dolly, while someone else is remotely operating the ronin, while someone else is pulling focus? Just wanted to confirm how many people I would need to pull that move off with something more DIY 🤔

Hi, I'm a writer/producer working on my own movie. I'm in the planning production stage and I'm thinking about how I want the film to look. I saw Stuart Dryburgh's cinematography on the film, The secret life of Walter Mitty, and I loved how the film looked. I know he used Hawk V-Lite anamorphic lens to shoot the movie but I wanted to know what else he did to get the look of the film. How did he get that texture to the scenes. The movie looks a little fuzzy and warmer than other films Thanks for your time

The worst lighting continuity I've ever seen was in Hobbs and Shaw during the last fight. The sun goes down as the battle starts, so The Rock can do the haka with his *family* to have intense lighting with fire. Then 3 shots later, the sun literally comes up and is fully noon day again. After that movie, lighting continuity has bugged me ever since.

6:20 I get the point of 'how much you can get away with', but it still irks me seeing film lights and crinkly blackwrap in shot. This cinematography isn't getting any awards, you know. But I'd be fine with doing it in a TVC. I suppose they'd have had real practicals put in if they had the budget.
