The creators of the show said that the main theme of it is "Love champions everything, and that's not always a good thing". WE as human beings can justify pretty horrific things for love. This is an excellent showing of that

What you said originally about how Sam being deaf changes their dynamic of simple conversations is an interesting point. Like of course in the big picture Sam's changes means that he's more dependent on those around him, making Henry just that much more important to his survival and making Henry himself feel more protective over him and a bigger burden of near fatherhood. However, Craig said the changes spawned from him simply being worried that if they were going to show Henry and Sam on their own before meeting Joel and Ellie, their dialogue sections would be far too similar to them, another simple protector protectee situation with nearly mirrored dialogue situations, and this was an attempt to distinguish them initially, which spawned into more thematic changes as well, such as him being younger etc.

When Henry was just standing there repeating "what did I do? What did I do?" I feel like in his head he was just imagining every bad scenario like his brother was defending himself from ellie or his brother wasn't fully turned or any scenario where he killed his little brother and not a clicker

I really love your videos. Your reactions and analysis are great. Specifically I loved your analysis of Kathleen's character, and I adored that Carlson mentionned the part of the game in the tunnels because it is a part of the game I too admired for its brilliant implicit story-telling, and it was also very satisfying to see your reactions to the Bloater coming out of the ground (Lindsey horrified and bemused, and Carlson satisfied of the reference from the game). RN you sadly aren't watching many shows that I too have watched (The Last of Us is the only one currently), but I am certainly on the lookout for each and every one of your videos. I specifically can't wait for Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, your reactions to the first season were so high quality and smart, and you picked up on so many details and interpretations, so really I cannot wait until season 2 is out because that is truely when all the foreshadowing and world-building comes together and the show truely completely detaches itself from the rest. When the characters are in “survival mode,” as they are throughout the game, there’s really no way for them to deal with all of their current and past trauma. They simply have to internalize it and move on. That’s why it’s so hard for Joel to deal with his emotions and why he tries to put a permanent wall between himself and Ellie.

Sam in the games is not deaf, he was swapped by Hollywood with a deaf person for representation and support of the deaf community, this is Hollywood's woke agenda of forced diversity; stop shoving deaf people down our throats, who's with me good people? I don't think you can blame the infected coming up on Kathleen. She had a whooping 10 days in charge. I doubt she received FEDRA paperwork and personal report about the status and their work. As far as she knows, it's one weak area in the infrastructure. SHE SHOULD HAVE DEALT WITH IT. I agree. But she had no way of knowing it was a systemic problem.

The fact that they made Henry and Sam younger and Sam deaf, made them feel more vulnerable, and you can see that in Joel's face, he already has a big responsability with just Elllie, and now carry the responsability of two more kids, he knows that anything can go wrong any moment, and that's why he doesn't want to attach to anyone anymore.

I missed how Kathleen knew that "the man who killed Brian" was traveling with a girl. Last I noticed the Kansas resistance thought Henry had hired "mercenaries". I missed when they found out otherwise. I did think it was interesting that Kathleen was sort in a twisted way right...Fedra forces the infected away and underground, but they are rapists and murderers. Kathleen's brother is useless in defeatiung Fedra. Henry gets that brother killed to save his own. That let's Kathleen defeat Fedra. That leads to the infected being unleased and to Henry and Sam's death. SSo, in that odd way, Kathleen was kind of right to say that Henry fucked with fate. If Kathleen's brother had llived, Sam would have died (which he did anyway), but presumably the monsters would still all be underground and Kansas City would be intact at least for a while more.

You missed the point. Perry said about Kathleen and her brother, "He didn't change anything. You did. We are with you" She didn't climb on his shoulders, ride his successes and that's why she lead them to victory. So many people get this wrong (and it's kinda sexist too. It's driving me crazy a little seeing it everywhere. That she couldn't have accomplished or earned anything herself). She's the leader because, yes nepotism, but also because she was willing to get her hands dirty, willing to fight back, and willing to kill. The pacifist way her brother wanted accomplished nothing. Kathleen is a Joel, a Bill, etc. The point was, sometimes you need to be ruthless to win. They are loyal to her because she lead them to victory. They are willing to follow her on her vendetta because her brother is a Jesus figure to them. a martyr to the cause. Of course they want justice for his death too. Henry is a Judas from their perspective.

For Kathreen as leader, it was important to not let traitors go away free cuz it encourages further betrayal behaviour. Today it was Henry selling the leader, tomorrow it can be someone else. That's what she meant with "sam's death was inevitable" cuz you can't really take such backstabbing steps and get away with what you wanted. Actions for personal benefits instead of the community's will not be tolerated. Kathleen ended up getting too personal herself tho. She had the right to kill Henry and Sam both to discourage others but the way she moved out the cavalry was hell bent revenge path.

The only thing I didn't like about this episode is Ellie falling asleep when she said she wouldn't. Like how could anyone fall asleep while an infected person is in the same room with you, not even knowing that her blood would save him? Also her not telling Joel and Henry was also wrong bc she took away any last moments that Henry could have had with Sam and Henry would have been able to deal with it in his own way instead of suddenly and then being distraught with what he did. Henry would probably still be alive.

You gotta remember she is just a kid. She didn’t want Sam to die/wanted to try and save him. Because she hates that she is immune and can’t help others. and shes scared if she tells Joel and Henry that Joel will want to kill him, and Sam might tell Henry that Ellie got bit too and she just wanted to try and save him and give him a great last night if not. Also she didn’t just fall asleep willingly, she probably passed out from being exhausted from all the adventure and action they had that day also while trying to keep a deaf kid entertained all night.
