@@lord_vader87 96 rounds is two bandoliers, hence my comment. 6 mags for modern assault rifles is 30 rounds, 6 mags making it 180 rounds, a lot more to work with. If you are using a sidearm in combat, things have deteriorated to the point you most likely are near the end...

Go look it up, here in South Africa, in the late 1800's to early 1900's the British army came for the second time, to take our country for the gold and diamonds. Back then, the Boer commandos took a 7mm Mauser and 20 rounds to war. (we fought like we hunt, every shot aimed precisely)

Yes, the original purpose of the safety pin was to take up the slack of the shoulder strap but a lot of soldiers would simply tie a knot in the strap and use the safety pin to affix the bottom of the bandoleer at the waist, so that the bandoleer would not bounce around when running or jumping.

These are used today and have stripper clips that are fed into magazines. The interesting thing most people don't know is that there is a thread running along the bottom of the stripper clip ones that makes it the right size for the stripper clips. But if you remove the threads, it becomes long enough so that a 30 rd mag will fit into each pouch allowing you to carry already loaded mags in it. And now you know.

In general, those bandoliers hurt the rifleman’s shoulder. The hanging strap was made of thin material and not wide enough to be that useful. However, if you needed extra ammo, you’d put up with anything that was a lifesaver. I own most of a cousin’s web gear and canteen from Okinawa. As a kid, I was very interested in the GI/Marine experiences. Later in life, I met AAF, Marine Air (an uncle, and other guys), and Navy personal. I loved hearing their stories. Dad never told many. He was at Pearl, Tarawa, and collected seven battle stars. Outstanding reports. Keep it up! Cheers!

@@chaosXP3RT Ouch 😵😞😭 Yep we due to successive governmental budget reductions for our armed forces in the UK 🇬🇧 we have what can only be described in one of two ways; 1- A modern lean army. 2- A decimated armed force that has been gutted by every budget for the past 50+ years.... It's crazy what is about to happen in Europe over the next few years, every country in Europe is going to massively increase their percentage of GDP that they spend on their defence budgets...we ALL got so relaxed after the cold war ended that despite the Falklands, Iraq x 2 and Afghanistan in real terms our major increases in defence spending didn't happen...we all (like the majority of the world) looked/look at America 🇺🇸 to be the "world Police" and if I were an American tax payer I would have agreed with (whatever your politics) Donald Trump who quite rightly asked why they were subsidising the military objectives of multiple rather wealthy countries..he had a very good point...and now everybody is playing catch up... Of course the horrendous situation in Ukraine 🇺🇦 is due to the world doing bu99er all the last time Russia invaded....But just remember the British Army is, regardless of its size one of the best / most professional in the world and most country's armed forces are based upon it even down to their specialists e.g. Seals = SAS etc NEVER underestimate the British Armed Forces, be it land, air or sea... we're smaller but still one of the most deadly 🇬🇧.

We still use a very similar 7 pocket bandolier for our modern M4 and M27 ammunition lol. It's very convenient!

I have opened several ammo cans of bandoleers, but I have yet to find a safety pin.

I think I would rather tie the slack strap in a knot rather than trust a safety pin to hold while I'm trying to march clear across Europe.

So that's about 48 M1 rounds on a soldier. Yet in media like Band of Brothers we see soldiers unloading their M1s like they're trying to shoot Hitler and they never seem to run out 😂.

Love your clips man! I’d like to hear the weights on loaded gear if you could? Like you were talking about the BAR team and their load out, and I was thinking about how heavy my M1A1 mags are lol

A simple, yet genius design that would work even in the modern days, as the 5.56mm AR-platform's magazines can use clips to load them.
