She was supposed to be one of Mariah Carey's replacements. Covering the big ballad arena. But, her switching to a soft singer had to do with her label. According to them, audiences were only buying music they could sing along to or with. So, big vocalists were out. Jessica wasn't happy about having to sing softly.

I always felt Jessica was intimidated by Britney and Christina. She wanted their popularity, there are a lot of videos of her shading them. I think she was overlooked a lot in her early career. She is a great vocalist, but she equally has a lot of not so great performances.

I thought it was because she choked when it was her turn to sing?. She was watching Christina perform and she got scared and didn't want to follow that performance. She had a very powerful voice and probably would have made it if she didn't get in her head and just performed. It wasn't because of Britney. That being said she was compared to Britney constantly after all of that. Also I don't see how they wanted her to be thinner. She wasn't fat and Britney wasn't a twig. Britney was athletic and fit. If they really wanted her to look like Britney they should've just had her workout and get some muscle.

I was on stage for 14 years and even at school I was lead female vocalist in the choir and always doing talent shows and I was sickly nervous every time so mad props to anyone who does live shows whether that be acting, singing, dancing or doing the full works. Loved Jessica Simpson, her voice is amazing. 98 Degrees was one of my favorite boy bands back in the day. I actually still have the 98 Degrees and Rising CD. I remember being so happy that they hooked up and got married. They were so cute together. 🥰 It was so sad to hear that they broke up and went separate ways. Years later, I listened to a Podcast called Imagined Life and it shared Jessica’s life. I had no idea what was really going on, how so many people tried to control her, and how low she felt about herself. I just had to say that I absolutely loved Jessica Simpson back in the day for the values that she represented and also that she was absolutely hilarious. Because of the adoration that I had for her I made it my mission to watch anything and everything she did, so I owned the Nick and Jessica Variety Hour on DVD. I also forced anyone that came over to watch it with me and just bask in the hilarity. I think I may have given it more of an audience than it would have had otherwise. I loved so much how they were just silly and poked fun at themselves and just knew how cheesy it was but still went all out. I’m sure I still have the DVD around here somewhere.
