How Dirty Is London?

Well they need to deep clean all the tubes and buses everyday. Whenever I am on the bus in the morning it absolutely pisses me off when the bus is dirty. I mean don't they clean the buses overnight? And the tubes need to be cleaned up properly.

As always, wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands. I thought London was really clean for the size of the city. I did sanitize my hands constantly on and off the tube. Y'all must have some really robust immune systems or get colds often. I did come down with a cold on the third day of our trip, but I'm pretty sure I got that from either my co-workers before I left or on the plane over. I was a bit rundown from the mad rush to get my work done before leaving for vacation and also I can't sleep on planes and was too excited the night before the trip. So I was awake for 36+ hours. I was too exhausted to keep count.

Coming to London after living in the fourth largest Russian city was like a breath of fresh air though! London's polluted air is actually far more clean than what we inhale there, being surrounded by plants and power stations.

Always thought the UK in general had a problem with not putting stuff in bins, but I think that the Tube to the eye is probably the best kept subway system I’ve been on. I distinctly remember a station in Paris that had something seeping through the walls. I have never really liked Paris since then!

The affluent areas of west and north-west London are usually much cleaner than the poor areas of south and south-east London. The central touristland of London is constantly littered but it is kept frequently clean. To the eyes of a tourist central London is very clean with the exception of Friday and Saturday nights when the vomit and urination of drunk people is frequent in the center of London or even inside buses and the tube. Londoners are very polite and civilized but many of them after the third glass of alcohol are converted into filthy rude animals. Public urination is a crime in UK but nobody really cares. The underground stations and trains isn't as clean as it should be. Sometimes it is worst than Paris metro. It is easy to spot areas inside London Underground stations that haven't been cleaned for decades. If you check at the floor of the doors of many trains the date is 1972 or 1973. In bakerloo line most of the trains are manufactured in 1972 and in Piccadilly line most of the trains are manufactured in 1973. Such old trains wear in time and are UGLY smelly and dirty. The newest trains with air-condition of course are an exception. Of course native Londoner prefer the consistency of the Underground network than cleanliness. They enter the Underground and leave it as soon as possible. After all tourists appreciate more the Underground than Londoners. The website of Daily Mail has an article with the title: You may want to stand after all! Seats on seven of London's Underground train lines are NEVER shampooed. Just google it. The seats on the District, Jubilee, Northern, Circle and Piccadilly, Metropolitan and Hammersmith & City lines are never cleaned properly according to Transport for London (TFL) data released in response to a Freedom of Information request. I personally prefer standing than seating inside the Underground trains. What I hate most is when passengers put their feet on the seats. As far as I know the TFL doesn't have its own cleaners. The cleaners are from other private companies

Man, I used to travel from Alperton to Covent Gdn, East Ham to Queensway and Angel to Covent Gdn for about 17 years in th 80s and 90s. The things I saw made me give up sitting on seats on the tube! You confirmed my beliefs of what is still there for the eye, not to see! Good for pointing it out ! Regards!!!

I’ve seen Farringdon get pretty nasty after a night out at Fabric. Areas around the stop have been pissed in by drunk guys, and it’s not a pleasant scent at 6 in the morning.
