A year ago when I first watched this, I lacked discipline. I was unmotivated & uninspired. However as I worked on my resistance to discipline I found myself capable of cultivating it and therefore manifesting things I wanted. I now have one business and am working on a second. I am much happier and much more centered. I wake up early and go to bed early. I eat healthy, I move my body daily, and I feel good in my body. My life has done a 180 in a year, and I expect it will keep getting better since learning this tool. Thank you.

When asking myself “how do you feel about discipline?” I realized my child self associates the word discipline with punishment, ie “you need to discipline your child” … and that I have made a pattern of avoiding discipline in order to protect myself from pain and humiliation. Thank you Teal for shining the light on discipline and achievement. I feel inspired to reassess some of my attitudes and truly appreciate the idea of resistance as an alarm to look deeper.

I was groomed at an early age to plow through life and have tunnel vision in every activity I would do. I had an Asian mom who was very critical and offered very little validation so I had to work my ass off and everything I did from school to Piano Lessons to swimming to tap dancing… I had to put up with the pain and the discomfort on a really intense level. I remember going to swim practice in the winter and shivering and having this dread in the pit of my stomach of having to do things that I didn’t want to do. So you could say I developed discipline at a very young age but at a price because I learned how to turn off my own inner flag system of discernment and it took me a while to learn what it is that I truly wanted versus what other people wanted of me. I’ve also gotten myself into dangerous situations by ignoring my red flag a system of discernment. So there’s definitely a balance with disciplining yourself and knowing that what you were working towards is something that you truly want and it’s not a “have to” by someone else. Thank you for the video Teal. 🙏

Indeed, I get that... My parents were also very pushy and wanted me to do everything their way. For a long time discipline was my identity, but it was to do things I didn't want to. In order to maintain this discipline, I had to turn off my complete guidance system too. So discovering it again felt like a whole new adventure. I got so frustrated because I didn't understand my own emotions. I had gotten so good at ignoring it... Because of this for some time I had an aversion of discipline. But as you say, it should be in balance... Now that I've found the right path to take, discipline shall again be my friend... Kuddos for going after what you want! Keep on moving forward ^^. xoxo

I have friends who raised this way. Harsh indeed but also a blessing. I was raised with the exact opposite, almost a hippie-like freedom. I think there’s a happy medium between the two. I had to find self discipline on my own and I have areas of strength where this is now effortless. But larger goals create massive resistance and I think it’s related to the lack of that in my early life. Breaking out of our family and parental patterns is truly “the work.” I wish you well and hope you’re able to follow your urge and what sparks you!! I’ve found the Human Design readings have helped me understand my inner motivation and specifically ideas on how to stay more aligned with responding in alignment vs. bulldozing in a disconnected way. Loved this video for distinguishing between the two!!

Hello. I came from the opposite side of the spectrum. My parents gave me free range to do whatever I wanted and I dove head first into many things for the first time. I never stuck with it. Because I had the freedom to do what I please I went to college for many things and didnt a get a degree in any of them. I started many tasks and never finished. I chalked it up to flowing like the wind and if I didnt like it I was quick to walk away. Now, as a 32 year old woman I am just now learning discipline (its funny because I was in the military for 8 years where discipline is a key point and I still fought it tooth and nail). I absolutely agree with you on balance. Have discipline for those things that matter to you and that you are happy at sacrificing certain things for the betterment of self.

Wow, this is PACKED with so much important information. My lack of discipline stems from a reaction to corrupted motivation. When I was super fit it was not for me/my own personal health...it was to attract a mate and desire that others "wish they were as fit at me". When I took thousands of pictures of my kids and scrapbooked it was not for personal creative desire or even that my kids would enjoy it.. it was a desire to be perceived by other parents/teachers in a certain light. Once I would see the inauthentic motivation I couldn't get far enough away from the activity. Stopped taking photos completely, stopped working out completely, etc. Every relationship I entered into was me becoming what I perceived was what they would find most appealing or attractive. I had no idea who I was, I felt like I had no identity or personality of my own to bring to the table... simply that I was a reflection of what I thought the world wanted me to be. I'm 54 and the last 5 years I have slowly started to swim to the surface of that way of seeing this reality. This video, at the moment, feels like an elephant on my chest.

I’m parenting a teenager. I’m now realizing I have not instilled enough discipline in my child for him to have intrinsic motivation. I am disciplined & was forced as a child to do everything. I was basically my parent’s slave. So I took the route that I would allow my child to just be a child. No chores. Nothing but the allowance for being a child. Unfortunately, at 13 my child is now facing hardships for finding motivation to accomplish much of anything. I now realize the role I have played in this. I’m going to use these techniques and start very slowly to ease him into developing discipline. I have talked a lot in the past about overcoming hardships & getting what we want through hard work and persistence, but in the end I have always handed everything to him on a silver platter. Now I need to help him to help himself develop self discipline & intrinsic motivation. Thank you, Teal, for making me realize this, because this is going to change our lives.

Meaning of this quote; If you think of yourself as the best at something, or being “out in front”, then you have no motivation to strive to be better, because you are already ahead of the pack. The masters in any field never think of themselves as being the best at anything. They are always looking for ways to improve upon themselves. They know that focusing on their weaknesses while reinforcing their strengths is the most efficient path towards improvement. There is no end goal for a master. To be at the front is to have achieved an end to something. By putting himself behind, the master can always be in a state of moving forward.

This actually comes from Viktor Frankl who wrote Man's Search for Meaning. He was a holocaust survivor and knows of what he speaks. He speaks to the idea that pain is inevitable, while suffering is not. It depends on the meaning you assign to the situation. Most of us are inadvertently and unconsciously attaching very negative, disempowering meanings to the painful events of our lives, including that they are meaningless, which causes us a tremendous amount of suffering. Frankyl's point is that although there may be pain, suffering ceases to be suffering when one can extract a profound, worthwhile meaning from the experience. This does not eliminate the pain of the experience, but it can give one a tremendous sense of purpose, will and resiliency to get through the situation. The experience is not for nothing. It is possible to extract tremendous value from our painful experiences. I highly recommend the book.

Traumatic early experiences can lead a person to believe discipline means not paying attention - ignoring not only how you feel, but also all obstacles and risks to deliver a result demanded by a person in authority (or your past self). If you have come to associate discipline with danger, it is no wonder if you resist it. Discipline in its beneficial form is the opposite of this and includes a heightened level of awareness.

Hehe, there also take what you have and give it the right attitude and sure to turn in your favor. I talk from experience, nor I read books. Give everything good attitude regardless of what it is. Watch real magic happen. Is like raising a baby, you treat it kind loving compassion, fun, laughs, you give it good attitude now the older it gets you stop giving them such attitude as a new born so they change, because you turn to parent who careless of a child, New on the way he get the treatment grow older treat him like the other child. This why many kids grow up the way they grow up in this old generation which is gone, is new generation already here hehe, so how you treat self goes a long way.... if you treat self how other do, you never see the good in all things that is.... you think with flesh which one are you the head or the tail? I desperately wish I could share this with my clients, but, my company would have my head for it. Weight loss and health take major discipline to undo decades of bad habits as well as friends and family discouraging changing to a healthy lifestyle. Motivation is hard for so many people in that position and discipline is going to be their only hope.

Emotional dysregulation makes one's will, only focused on managing each moment. That has to be dealt with first, because the eating disorder is not the cause it is a symptom. Behavior modification is de-humanizing. Discipline is the practice of a disciple (which meant, "one who is ready to learm"). I wish you and your clients well.

the beautiful thing of discipline, is that the word and wisdom behind it, comes from the word DISCIPLE... a student curious to higher knowledge, a curious person that is 24/7 DRIVEN to practice the unknown to grow spiritually, physically and mentally for the greater good. a curious person that is open to receive and give all necessary, to grow for the greater good. understanding this deeper drive will motivate every second of every breath and guide us through our days, nights and lives, curious of anything crossing our path.

OMG. Synchronicity at its finest. Just earlier today I asked the universe (and set an intention with my free will) that I wanted to learn how to harness my emotions, which often engulf me like a tsunami and I feel at their mercy. Not surprising considering I have a HUGE amount of trauma that I’ve only started to heal in earnest since last year (even though I’ve been at it for nearly 15years), and I have a lifetime pattern of bulldozing my emotions (was badly abused in the name of “discipline” and therefore learnt to ignore my emotions even when they were screaming) So ..... now I have Teal post this amazing video. It’s not been entirely comfortable to listen to ... BUT i am SO PROUD of myself because I have learnt self discipline to the point where I could SIT through the discomfort to allow her message to come through. I can see the wisdom in her teaching here - she helped me start to listen to my emotional guidance system a few years ago that got me finally out of a severely abusive environment. And now she is showing me the next level - the balance point between bulldozing and being completely controlled by one’s emotions. Teal, if you’re reading this. Thank you so much. You didn’t scare me at all with your video (I’ve delved deep into Shadow work for years and have faced some very dark parts inside myself, so yay - the self discipline involved in doing that allows me to absorb your messages without wanting to run away). I believe you when you say you are very disciplined - that’s what people who know me say about me. That I’m one of the most disciplined people they’ve ever seen. We have to be right - shadow work and integration isn’t for the faint hearted! I have said this before - I have no idea if we will ever meet, and while I don’t think of myself as a “fan”, I do admire you and your strength. I know and feel you are part of a wider soul group I belong to. Very glad you found the will within you to stay alive all those years ago and be brave - I see such courage in you, and I also know you mirror my own courage back to me. Sending you grateful hugs, and these videos you’ve been coming out with since 2020 are the next level, perfect timing. Have a wonderful day Teal and team! 💜💜💜💜💜

Thank you Teal 💜 Excercise has taught me this, I rarely want to work out and it is very uncomfortable but the rewards are literally life changing, I feel so well mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally when I excercise regularly, I can achieve anything when I'm exercising regularly. If I stop exercising, in about a week I become depressed, my body seems to age, I loose motivation etc.

Bang on! If you don’t use a target, what will you aim for? When you advance to any contact on a two way shooting range… you move tactically, with discipline, and it’s your training that keeps you alive. Command and control. Systems, interconnecting support elements and you can still lose. It doesn’t matter how good it feels it’s the achievement when you reach the enemy position. Then you reorganise, fight through and that’s when you’re on your chin, knackered and you know if you don’t you die. Life is the same. Get on with it. I had a car Crash that broke my shoulders and clavicle that caused embolic strokes. I was destroyed for 3 years. Yet I used that psychology to wake up. Learn to crawl, learn to stand up, learn to speak, think and recreate my mind and body. It is a choice, I choose life and love.

After watching a ton on Abraham Hicks videos where she talks about just feeling good, chilling out, aligning etc., this video puts things into a much better perspective. Yes, follow your internal guidance but also do not become too passive and slave to your biology and lazy part of self. To succeed in life and have it under control - you need to be DISCIPLINED. Balance seems to be the way to go.

Self discipline saved my life from being nothing but depression. I don’t know if it has to do with being a Capricorn moon (Sravana) and Virgo rising (Hasta) but I love the feeling of doing something that challenges me and rewarding myself for achieving it afterwards besides just being productive with myself. This is how I started being an early morning 5am riser after college for my hourly meditation, mantra recitations and exercise for my own well-being while living my vegan lifestyle for over 10 years including my fasting from food all day and night practice once a week every week to reset my body and planning my life with intense focus which always helped me manifest what I want. My initial motivation as a child besides just having that discipline and determination trait (Heavy Earth elements in my birth sign) is that I was always aiming to leave the home and escape growing up as a scapegoat/ always being heavily criticised and under appreciated even as the most disciplined person in the family. Having my own issues with perfection because of this I decided to make self improvement my own way a daily practice as part of my self love practice to add to my happiness as opposed to seeing it as something that is dreadful . This helped me value myself for who I am not what I was told especially when it comes from self not forced by anyone else.

when I ask myself "how I feel about discipline?" I realized that my child self goes into a full panic reaction of survival-mode tantrum. my mother was psychopathic (factor 1). All disciplinary my child self has experienced was sadistic, random and an attempt to break its spirit and inhibit the development of a self. my father, in compensation and probably out of pity for us (despite being conscientious in his work life/career) had refrained from exhibiting any disciplinary on us kids what's-o-ever. He once said, you (my siblings and myself) were exhibiting silent terror, as if you were living in a boot camp 24/7. Understandably, imposing discipline on myself was and still is extremely scary, despite (what I believe) being a naturally conscientious person. I associate discipline with death of my spirit, i.e. the dissolution of my existence. Thank you Teal for shining light on this.

I've been procrastinating on uni work so badly this year there's a chance I won't make it anymore, so I heard your message loud and clear :D All these unintegrated voices in my head are going like "life is just never-ending torture", "I HAVE to do this", "I'm always going to be a failure no matter how hard I try", and even "maybe it's ok to not want to achieve things" have gotten super loud during lockdown. It takes tremendous effort to work through years of programming we picked up in our childhood. I've made lots of progress and this video is helping me reflect, look deeper into some aspects. Thank you Teal and good luck to everyone on this journey. Even though it may look like not much gets done in your outer world on some days, don't underestimate how much energy and discipline it takes to work and heal your emotional self.

From my experience i have found that when you have : a) A clear goal , something that you actually want b) Belief that you can achieve it and c) Knowledge about what you have to do to make it happen then nothing will stop! Not the hard word you have to put in, not the "sacrifices'' that you have to make, nothing! In this case discipline comes naturally. You wake up exactly the time you are supposed to, you complete your to do lists and receive the satisfaction of doing so and generally you just go, go, go and you are joyful about it. The problem arises when one(or more) of those 3 key elements is missing. When you don't know for example exactly what you want but you have kind of a vague idea of it, or when you know what you are after but you are not 100% sure that this is a true desire of your soul or something your environment( family, colleges, society ect.) has made you think that you want. Or when you know what you want but you don't know exactly what you are supposed to do, or you know but you don't believe in yourself and you abilities or even you are unsure if this course of action will bring about the desired results. Those i believe are the real issues that we have and not discipline in it on itself. Those i believe are the things we need to focus upon and get them straighten up.

Exactly this ! People often only say "do it consistently" but if you don't have clearly defined system/rules/knowledge of each habit how can you do them... that aspect, knowing the mechanism of habit and having clear rules in place, is so underrated and so much more important to understand than "just do it every day", since most people already know that and yet it's hard to do the habits. That and of course yea clear good reason/goal too. Your comment should be at top
