According to Jesus at Matthew 25:31-46 and Matthew 16:27 we do indeed need good works for salvation. Or take the rich man in the Lazarus/rich man parable. The rich man had faith----after all he called on his spiritual father Abraham, didn't he?-----but he lacked the good works of feeding the poor so God sent him to Hell .

LSmoove 79 This is what God says regarding your comment. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 (NIV) 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, 'I have kept the faith'. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. Notice that Paul says that he had "kept the faith" Paul says the same thing in Ephesians 2:8-9 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, 'through faith'-and this is not from yourselves, it is the GIFT of God- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. It is BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH! As long as you keep your faith in Christ' WORK of redemption you are saved. BUT if you trust in YOUR OWN works of righteousness to save you, you remain clothed in your own FILTHY rags and you will NOT be allowed in the wedding supper of the Lamb. Isaiah 64:6 Matthew 22:11-13 Notice what else God tells us through the Apostle Paul; 5 He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, Titus 3:5 (NIV)

Well.... actually, Trinity is very hard to imagine let alone understand. Well.. if God's appearance were to be understood, we might know His power. But we don't really know how He looks like, definitely shows that He is indeed very powerful and capable of doing things we might've never thought. But Trinity basically means that The Father, Son and The Holy Spirit are three different persons but they are one and there is only one God. God Bless You!

The tinity isn’t hard to understand. You just have to use analogies or representation. I’ll give three, the first is stages of water, liquid, solid, gas. Another would be the U.S governmental system. Lastly you can use the human from, body, mind, spirit. Each are one thing, but three parts to a whole. Each work differently and we interact with each differently but they are still one and the same. @@donjon2023 You and those around you might be an exception to the general rule, but the truth is most Catholics don't know the gospel, don't know who God and Jesus truly are, and don't know the Bible. And also, many aspects of Catholic doctrine are in direct contradiction with scripture. Catholicism clings to traditions and doctrines that emerged centuries after the apostles had died and have little to none base in scripture, many of which can be linked to roman pagan tradition, like praying to dead saints, and others that were actually considered as heresy by the early church, such as Mariology. I had been a Catholic for 26 years before I got saved, grew up in a Catholic home, went to a Catholic school, even the university I went to was Catholic. And in 26 years of Catholicism, I was never encouraged to read the Bible, I was never taught what the gospel really is, I was never taught what Jesus' death on the cross truly meant, end times prophecy was never mentioned, nothing on spiritual warfare, nothing. Not even when I did my first communion, nor when I did my confirmation. Just so you can imagine my ignorance back then, I even thought the Bible was like a calendar or an agenda where it showed which readings were supposed to be read each day at mass. You're right, I should have had interest in reading the Bible. But it should be the church's responsibility to teach the Bible and to teach who Jesus really is in the first place. And that's something the Catholic church rarely does.

I am not clear what your stance is so I am only replying to clarify the verse referenced not to assume you see it differently. Not everyone who says Lord Lord... Saying I believe in Jesus with only my words doesn't mean I believe it in my heart and have accepted His free gift of Salvation. I would also include verse 22- On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ Notice here Jesus says I NEVER knew you. Not I once knew you but now I don't or any other version. It shows that just because you can heal or do miracles and say it's in Jesus' name doesn't mean that that person has ever believed. John 1:12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. Acts 16:30 Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Romans 10:9 if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. John 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 1 John 5:13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. This is how God knows us. Jesus paid the full price for us and if we believe in Him and what He did for us we are saved. He loves us as we are and wherever we are, and just like any other relationship we are impacted by being in contact with others. The same is with Jesus, he transforms us from the inside out as we get to know Him and spend time with Him in prayer and His Word- The Bible. What's the will of the Father? 2 Perter 3:9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. The facts are God is Holy and we are not. It's not a condemnation but a fact. We are all flawed and we all know it. Perfection can't be in the same space as imperfection. You may be a good person but you're still flawed. We've all lied, taken time off work and gotten paid for it (stealing) we've all disobeyed our parents and coveted other people's stuff. We've all lusted after someone else that's not our spouse and we have chased after idols that wasn't God. Money, job, cars, there are many things we put first before God. The point is we have all missed the mark of perfection, that's what sin means. Romans 3:22b-23 For there is no distinction: 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Religions say if you do this and do that you can get to God. Just be better, try harder and maybe when you die you will have done enough. The Bible says Romans 10:11-13 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him (Jesus) will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Can you admit your flawed that you have missed God's Holy mark? Can you accept that there is a penalty for laws of God you have chosen to break? Can you accept with humility that God loves you so much that He sent Jesus to die a cruel death in our place and that He rose from the dead to save you and all humanity? Not because we deserved it or could earn it but because He loves us as we are, where we are. Can you say thank you and just receive the gift and believe in the work He's done for us? Let me put it another way. We live in a country where men and women who have come before us gave their life willingly so that we could be free. Not because we did anything to deserve it or could earn it, they willingly laid their life down so that we could accept the freedom they fought for and enjoy it. And we remember them and their sacrifice. On a greater scale, this is what Jesus did. He paid a penalty he did not owe for a debt we owed but could not pay. All that he says is can we humble ourselves and just say thank you and receive the gift He paid for with His life? If we can and if we do then we are saved, and we can know we have eternal life in Heaven. I am not saved because I am special, or better, or any different than you. The only thing that may be different is that I realized I could never get to God through becoming perfect on my own. I needed God to come to me, which is who Jesus is. I believed and I was saved and now I try to share the same hope with those who are searching.

So yes am a sinner I don’t deserve to be in the kingdom of God but I question that the USA motto “In God we trust” do you truly trust God or your work to pay you money that helps you when you need it. Or Matthew 16 24¶Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 25For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. 26For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? So stop going after money 1 Timothy 10For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 11But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. So ask are you me everyone what are they after?

From what I can see, the protestants in this comment section seem very aggressive and quick to condemn the Catholic Church. As a Protestant myself, I used to do this. But then I realised I truly felt the presence of God in a Catholic as well as my Pentacostal church. Doesn't matter what church you go to, you need to have a heart that will readily receive the presence of God and a thirst to grow deeper in covanental relationship with Him. Seeking God and growing in the Word does not depend on the church. Although supporting each other as brothers and sisters in Christ is important, knowledge of scripture is still based on your own willingness to read the Word in your own free time. If you feel like you prefer a Catholic/Protestant church, then go for it! I believe the different churches we have now really help the expansion of God's Kingdom as some really don't like the way Catholics worship. And that's fine. Accept our differences and recognise we should be united as one body of Christ, instead of being quick to condemn and despise each other for scriptural differences.

So my experience is just the opposite. I grew up protestant, became Catholic when I married, and found real depth of faith within that community. It doesn't matter which denomination you're "attending", it's when your heart is attending to the working of the holy spirit and the Word that you will find deeper meaning and faith. On the grace and works issue. Yes, Paul in Ephesians 2 makes it clear it is Grace that saves, not works. But James 2 clearly states faith without works is dead. Are these contradictory? I don't believe so. Grace alone saves, but if you don't exercise good works you show no gratitude for, nor understanding of, that Grace. If your salvation by Grace does not drive you to do good works, you have not truly accepted the Grace you've been offered in your heart. If it does not transform you, you have not received it. Good works therefore become an integral and essential part of that covenant of Grace.

When others pray for the lost, people say "dont only pray", when people evangelize people say "talking without doing good is useless".. What makes them think that the praying people dont do other things also n the people who evangelize dont do other good things? My conclusion : we tend to think of ourselves higher/ better/ above others or unconsciously judge others in our mind.. When Paul said we are said by Grace and not by works, the works he was talking about was 'Works of the Law', which older renderings of the New Testament spell out. The works of the law were the old testament practices such as the ritual cleansing and animal sacrifices. This passage by Paul was to counter Peter's claim that new Christians who were not originally Jewish had to adopt the old Jewish practices, which of course the early church decided against. This was a pretty big deal in those first few decades of the Church and had Peter and Paul at odds with one another as Peter was mostly evangelizing the Jews, and Paul the Roman Gentiles. This of course does not mean that our works save us, but that as St. James says in James 2:26 "For even as the body without the spirit is dead; so also faith without works is dead" This is the Catholic understanding of Faith and works. They compliment each other. You aren't saved by your works, but if you claim to have Faith and have no works, then your claim to Faith is simply not true.

James says our faith in is vain if we have no works, meaning that if we say we have faith, but we have no fruit to show for it, we are likely not saved. James says “I show you my faith by my works.” A combination of Jesus and works for salvation is unbiblical. We will do good work if we’re saved, but we must be saved first

If by faith alone you mean Faith working through love. Meaning that with True Faith you let Christ work though you in love, then absolutely. Catholics would 100% agree. However, we do not use Faith Alone, because the Bible specifically refutes that. When a Catholic and Orthodox says Faith and Works, you need to understand that Salvation is not a one time event. It is a life-long process which requires you to do good works. If you do not do good works, out of love, then your faith will not save you.

A few thoughts: 1) As you said, a true Christian will do good works, yet the good works are not required for salvation - agreed. However, could it not be said that unless you doing good works you are not a true Christian? We are all called to do good, if we claim to follow Christ, aren't we then obliged to do good works? 2) Under the theory that justification only happens once, how do you account for a person that loses their faith and then regains it? That's all I've got for now but I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Okay, for the first question you have, a "True Christian" would have to be doing a lot more good works than bad ones because they are claiming to be Crist like or "perfect" so for them to be "true" they definitely need to do good works, other wise it's Prue hypocrisy. To 2nd question I kinda experienced, I stoped going to church as a kid because I did not like it, later tho I went back and got saved by accepting Jesus Christ ad my Savior, so I would say to the second question that, a person who loses faith and then regains it is just a Christian, they just stoped for a while I guess

How exactly does one not sin against God's law after justification according to God? Even if I could control my behavior, my thought itself would still sin and condemn me to eternal hell. And God will forgive if I ask for forgiveness for each sin? But, what if I can't remember each and every sin? Will God not forgive me for the sins I failed to remember? But, I thank God that he will not hold it against me as the blood of the lamb has justified me. His Son, Jesus Christ has died for me and my sins. As someone raised Catholic - 12 years of Catholic schools, I can say I was left believing I was good to go because I am a Catholic and if not I leaned heavily on purgatory. I came to Christ in my forties through hearing the Word of God and studying the Bible with an evangelical group. After 12 years of Catholic schools- I blind knew nothing about the Word of God, I didn’t know it understand the salvation message. I was stuck in a sacerdotal system that depended on my works and forgiveness from a mere man. The only Jesus I knew was a weak and powerless baby in the arms of a strong feminine Deity, Mary who Catholics are told and encouraged to pray to, and a dead Christ still hanging on a cross. The deference with Catholicism is way bigger than Frank just simplified. The Mass is a replay of Christ death sacrificing Him over and over. It’s a ritual. Transubstantiation is the belief (mandatory for Catholics) that Christ is literally called from the Throne at the right hand of God, and ordered into the host which hosts an entity in this case Christ, where He is rekilled by the breaking of the Eucharist and His body is crushed by our teeth as we chew the Eucharist. According to the CCC what I just described is true. They believe that Christs presence in the host is exactly the same as when he walked the Earth. This believe according to the CCC applies also to the Pope. Of which there are two now Alice at the same time - the pope is the embodiment of Christ on Earth (not a representative) every much the same as when Christ walked the Earth. Catholicism is paganism. I do not know a single Catholic who s saved and still performing self salvific works, and believes they leave a confessional free from sin….who knows acts or talks like one who is actually saved. Frank does a huge miscarriage to compare Catholicism to True Salvation as a few minor differences.

Early Church Fathers on Peter Being the First Bishop of the Church of Rome Clement Recognitions book 1 (27-97 ad) The epistle in which the same Clement, writing to James the Lord's brother, informs him of the death of Peter, and that he had left him his successor in his chair and teaching, and in which also the whole subject of church order is treated, I have not prefixed to this work, both because it is of later date, and because I have already translated and published it. But I do not think it out of place to explain here what in that letter will perhaps seem to some to be inconsistent. Since Linus and Cletus were bishops in the city of Rome before this Clement, how could Clement himself say that the chair of teaching was handed over to him by Peter? Now of this we have heard this explanation, that Linus and Cletus were indeed bishops in the city of Rome before Clement, but during the lifetime of Peter: that is, that they undertook the care of the episcopate, and that he fulfilled the office of apostleship; as is found also to have been the case at Caesarea, where, when he himself was present, he yet had Zacchaeus, ordained by himself, as bishop. And in this way both statements will appear to be true, both that these bishops are reckoned before Clement, and yet that Clement received the teacher's seat on the death of Peter. Tertullian Prescription Against Heretics ch 22 (160- 240 ad) Was anything withheld from the knowledge of Peter, who is called "the rock on which the church should be built," who also obtained "the keys of the kingdom of heaven," with the power of "loosing and binding in heaven and on earth?" Tertullian Prescription Against Heretics ch 32 (160- 240 ad) For it is evident that those men lived not so long ago,--in the reign of Antoninus for the most part,--and that they at first were believers in the doctrine of the Catholic Church, in the church of Rome under the episcopate of the blessed Eleutherus, the 13th Bishop of Rome until on account of their ever restless curiosity,with which they even infected the brethren, they were more than once expelle Tertullian The Prescription Against Heretics ch 32 [160-240 AD] "[T]his is the way in which the apostolic churches transmit their lists: like the church of the Smyrneans, which records that Polycarp was placed there by John, like the church of the Romans, where Clement was ordained by Peter" (Demurrer Against the Heretics 32:2 [A.D. 200]). Caius Fragment 2 AGAINST THE HERESY OF ARTEMON ch 1 (180-240 ad) For they say that all those of the first age, and the apostles themselves, both received and taught those things which these men now maintain; and that the truth of Gospel preaching was preserved until the times of Victor, who was the fourteenth bishop in Rome after Peter, Origen Commentary on the Gospel of John Book 5 par 3 (185-254 ad) And Peter, on whom Christ had to build his church, against which the gates of hell shall not prevail left only one epistle of acknowledged genuineness. Cyprian of Carthage Epistle 45 par 2 [200-270 AD] We," they say, "know that Cornelius, the twenty-first bishop of the most holy Catholic Church elected by Almighty God, and by Christ our Lord. We confess our error; we have suffered imposture; we were deceived by captious perfidy and loquacity. For although we seemed, as it were, to have held a kind of communion with a man who was a schismatic and a heretic, yet our mind was always sincere in the Church. For we are not ignorant that there is one God; that there is one Christ the Lord whom we have confessed, and one Holy Spirit; and that in the Catholic Church there ought to be one bishop." Cyprian of Carthage epistle 74 par 16 (200-270 ad) But what is the greatness of his error, and what the depth of his blindness, who says that remission of sins can be granted in the synagogues of heretics, and does not abide on the foundation of the one Church which was once based by Christ upon the rock, may be perceived from this, that Christ said to Peter alone, "Whatsoever thou shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatsoever thou shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." And again, in the Gospel, when Christ breathed on the apostles alone, saying, remitted unto them, and whose soever sins ye retain they are retained." Therefore the power of remitting sins was given to the apostles, and to the churches which they, sent by Christ, established, and to the bishops who succeeded to them by vicarious ordination. But the enemies of the one Catholic Church in which we are, and the adversaries of us who have succeeded the apostles, asserting for themselves, in opposition to us, unlawful priesthoods, and setting up profane altars, what else are they than Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, profane with a like wickedness, and about to suffer the same punishments which they did, as well as those who agree with them, just as their partners and abettors perished with a like death to theirs? Cyprian of Carthage epistle 72 par 7 (200-270 ad) But it is manifest where and by whom remission of sins can be given; to wit, that which is given in baptism. For first of all the Lord gave that power to Peter, upon whom He built the Church, and whence He appointed and showed the source of unity--the power, namely, that whatsoever he loosed on earth should be loosed in heaven. And after the resurrection, also, He speaks to the apostles, saying, "As the Father hath sent me, even so I send you. And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and saith, unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: whosoever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whosoever sins ye retain, they are retained." Whence we perceive that only they who are set over the Church and established in the Gospel law, and in the ordinance of the Lord, are allowed to baptize and to give remission of sins; but that without, nothing can either be bound or loosed, where there is none who can either bind or loose anything. Cyprian of Carthage epistle 54 par 14 (200-270 ad) After such things as these, moreover, they still dare--a false bishop having been appointed for them by, heretics--to set sail and to bear letters from schismatic and profane persons to the throne of Peter, and to the chief church whence priestly unity takes its source; and not to consider that these were the Romans whose faith was praised in the preaching of the apostle, to whom faithlessness could have no access. Cyprian of Carthage Epistle 51 par 8 [200-270 AD] "Cornelius was made bishop by the decision of God and of his Christ, by the testimony of almost all the clergy, by the applause of the people then present, by the college of venerable priests and good men, at a time when no one had been made bishop before him-when the place of Pope Fabian, which is the place of Peter, the dignity of the sacerdotal chair, was vacant. Since it has been occupied both at the will of God and with the ratified consent of all of us, whoever now wishes to become bishop must do so outside. For he cannot have ecclesiastical rank who does not hold to the unity of the Church" Cyprian of Carthage Treatise 1 par 4 [200-270 AD] There is easy proof for faith in a short summary of the truth. The Lord speaks to Peter, saying, "I say unto thee, that thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound also in heaven, and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." And again to the same He says, after His resurrection, resurrection, He gives an equal power, and says, "As the Father hath sent me, even so send I you: Receive ye the Holy Ghost: He arranged by His authority the origin of that unity, as beginning from one. Cyprian of Carthage epistle 39 par 5 [200-270 AD] There is one God, and Christ is one, and there is one Church, and one chair founded upon the rock by the word of the Lord. Another altar cannot be constituted nor a new priesthood be made, except the one altar and the one priesthood. Peter of Alexandria Genuine Acts of Peter (260-311ad) ...and guardian of all preceding and subsequent occupiers of this pontifical chair ...Peter was the first of the apostles...

@@ThomB50 Of course we can but our works alone will never get us into heaven or keep us there (in the spirit on earth) apart from Jesus. His works make it possible and our works show our love and appreciation for them and Him. His love is not unconditional. Never-ending,yes, but not unconditional when it comes to heavenly entrance and occupancy. In Christ, Andrew

As a protestant I believe your are saved by the grace of God alone, you should do good works as a follower of Christ, but you are in no way earning your salvation nor is water baptisms a prerequisite to salvation. I think that some catholic believe but not all, that protestants just require belief in Christ and that's it and you don't have to do anything, which is far from the truth, to be a Christian is to be Christ like, which means to do good works like Christ, to be baptized like Christ. I knew a person that accepted Christ into their life at 9pm on a Saturday went to bed at 10pm, never woke up died in his sleep that night, no good works no water baptism, died in peace knowing the love of God. Now is someone going to say he went to hell because he wasn't baptized and didn't do any good works and if so who gives you the authority to make that claim? Even the thief on the cross wasn't baptized. Do I believe Catholics are Christians yes are protestant Christians yes, there are always people who claim that are Christians and do bad things and misrepresent Christ through out history protestant and Catholics, but that doesn't represent the majority of Christians.

My dad was raised in the Roman Church and was catechised by people in that organization. He became a protestant when he was in his twenties. If I understood what my dad taught me (and some of what I’ve learned since then), the Roman Church teaches that we are justified by God’s grace alone and that the sacraments of the Roman Church (properly “administered”) are the conduit or vehicle of God’s grace. Conversely, protestants teach that we are justified by God’s grace alone and that the conduit or vehicle of God’s grace is faith alone. Some protestants would add that our faith is also a gift of God’s grace, i.e. that our faith is God’s gift to us, not our gift to him. Some protestants teach that justification is a “one time thing” but I think a person can still be considered protestant who believes justification occurs each time we realize we have committed sinful (selfish) acts and we ask for God’s forgiveness. The majority of professed Christians don’t place as much emphasis on sanctification as John Wesley did. Personally, I think there are a number of emphases that would benefit the Christian church, of which an emphasis on sanctification is only one. We are not saved by our theology. Careful theology, however, can minimize the mistakes we make as we attempt to convey the gospel to those who know it not.

What is the origin of the Roman Catholic Church? The Roman Catholic Church contends that its origin is the death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ in approximately AD 30. The Catholic Church proclaims itself to be the church that Jesus Christ died for, the church that was established and built by the apostles. Is that the true origin of the Catholic Church? On the contrary. Even a cursory reading of the New Testament will reveal that the Catholic Church does not have its origin in the teachings of Jesus or His apostles. In the New Testament, there is no mention of the papacy, worship/adoration of Mary (or the immaculate conception of Mary, the perpetual virginity of Mary, the assumption of Mary, or Mary as co-redemptrix and mediatrix), petitioning saints in heaven for their prayers, apostolic succession, the ordinances of the church functioning as sacraments, infant baptism, confession of sin to a priest, purgatory, indulgences, or the equal authority of church tradition and Scripture. So, if the origin of the Catholic Church is not in the teachings of Jesus and His apostles, as recorded in the New Testament, what is the true origin of the Catholic Church? For the first 280 years of Christian history, Christianity was banned by the Roman Empire, and Christians were terribly persecuted. This changed after the “conversion” of the Roman Emperor Constantine. Constantine provided religious toleration with the Edict of Milan in AD 313, effectively lifting the ban on Christianity. Later, in AD 325, Constantine called the Council of Nicea in an attempt to unify Christianity. Constantine envisioned Christianity as a religion that could unite the Roman Empire, which at that time was beginning to fragment and divide. While this may have seemed to be a positive development for the Christian church, the results were anything but positive. Just as Constantine refused to fully embrace the Christian faith but continued many of his pagan beliefs and practices, so the Christian church that Constantine and his successors promoted progressively became a mixture of true Christianity and Roman paganism. Following are a few examples: Most Roman Catholic beliefs and practices regarding Mary are completely absent from the Bible. Where did those beliefs come from? The Roman Catholic view of Mary has far more in common with the Isis mother-goddess religion of Egypt than it does with anything taught in the New Testament. Interestingly, the first hints of Catholic Mariology occur in the writings of Origen, who lived in Alexandria, Egypt, which happened to be the focal point of Isis worship. The Lord’s Supper being a consumption of the literal body and blood of Jesus is not taught in the Bible. The idea that bread and wine are miraculously transformed into the literal body and blood of Jesus (transubstantiation) is not biblical. However, several ancient pagan religions, including Mithraism, which was very popular in the Roman Empire, had some form of “theophagy” (the eating of one’s god) as a ritualistic practice. Roman Catholicism has “saints” one can pray to in order to gain a particular blessing. For example, Saint Gianna Beretta Molla is the patron saint of fertility. Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of animals. There are multiple patron saints of healing and comfort. Nowhere is even a hint of this taught in Scripture. Just as the Roman pantheon of gods had a god of love, a god of peace, a god of war, a god of strength, a god of wisdom, etc., so the Catholic Church has a saint who is “in charge” over each of these and many other categories. Many Roman cities had a god specific to the city, and the Catholic Church provided “patron saints” for cities as well. The idea that the Roman bishop is the vicar of Christ, the supreme leader of the Christian Church, is utterly foreign to the Word of God. The supremacy of the Roman bishop (the papacy) was created with the support of the Roman emperors. While most other bishops (and Christians) resisted the idea of the Roman bishop being supreme, the Roman bishop eventually rose to supremacy, again, due to the power and influence of the Roman emperors. After the western half of the Roman Empire collapsed, the popes took on the title that had previously belonged to the Roman emperors-Pontifex Maximus. Many more examples could be given. These four should suffice in demonstrating the origin of the Catholic Church. Of course, the Roman Catholic Church denies the pagan origin of its beliefs and practices. The Catholic Church disguises its pagan beliefs under layers of complicated theology and church tradition. Recognizing that many of its beliefs and practices are utterly foreign to Scripture, the Catholic Church is forced to deny the authority and sufficiency of Scripture. The origin of the Catholic Church is the tragic compromise of Christianity with the pagan religions that surrounded it. Instead of proclaiming the gospel and converting the pagans, the Catholic Church “Christianized” the pagan religions and “paganized” Christianity. By blurring the differences and erasing the distinctions, the Catholic Church made itself attractive to the idolatrous people of the Roman Empire. One result was the Catholic Church becoming the supreme religion in the Roman world for centuries. However, another result was the most dominant form of Christianity apostatizing from the true gospel of Jesus Christ and the true proclamation of God’s Word. Second Timothy 4:3-4 declares, “For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.”
@goor1322
@goor1322 4 жыл бұрын
It is important to note in the above article that the Roman Catholic church is a mixture of true Christianity and the paganism that was in and also surrounding Rome. Please consider the objective truth rather than what you want to be true, aka subjective truth.

2:43 this protestant guy is so blinded that he says "I THINK THAT YOU ARE SAVED BY FAITH ALONE"! He THINKS, that's the problem with protestants, they make up stuff! That doctrine is the doctrine of a man called Martin Luther but Martin Luther's doctrine IS NOT IN THE BIBLE. I am an atheist and even I know the true christian doctrine James 2:14-26 "What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but do not have works? Can faith save you? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill’, and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that? 17 SO FAITH BY ITSELF, IF IT HAS NO WORKS, IS DEAD. 18 But someone will say, ‘You have faith and I have works.’ Show me your faith without works, and I by my works will show you my faith. 19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe-and shudder. (See, the bible is clear, you will not be saved by believing in God and having faith in God, for even the demons believe and shudder, but they are not saved) 20 DO YOU WANT TO BE SHOWN, YOU SENSELESS PERSON, THAT FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS BARREN? 21 Was not our ancestor Abraham justified by works when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was brought to completion by the works. 23 Thus the scripture was fulfilled that says, ‘Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness’, and he was called the friend of God. 24 YOU SEE THAT A PERSON IS JUSTIFIED BY WORKS AND NOT BY FAITH ALONE. 25 Likewise, was not Rahab the prostitute also justified by works when she welcomed the messengers and sent them out by another road? 26 FOR JUST AS THE BODY WITHOUT THE SPIRIT IS DEAD, SO FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS ALSO DEAD." Protestants are pagans, they teach a doctrine taught by Martin Luther. For this reason Jesus says Matthew 15:13-14 "Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. 14 Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind. And if one blind person guides another, both will fall into a pit." At least the catholics teach the bible as it is, but the protestants invent new doctrines and make up stuff. And do you know what's more embarrassing? That an atheist knows this and the so called "Christians" do not LMAO. PROTESTANTS ARE FAKE CHRISTIANS! They follow a doctrine taught by Martin Luther, a doctrine that IS NOT IN THE BIBLE. Now I know why you guys have the name "protestants" lol.

Jesus said “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me”. You only need faith in Jesus Christ to be saved. Salvation is free. If we need good works to achieve it, then it is no longer free. To address James, it merely shows that true faith should have fruits, which includes good works. It doesn’t mean that the good works will bring you salvation. Good works are the product of your faith. I can do good works all day and have no faith. But having true faith in Jesus gives me salvation and allows me to do good works due to my love for Him.

ghallora the next objection? Just to list a few that are not found in the Bible: Mary is the all holy one (CCC 2677) Mary issecond to Eve (Mystici Corpois Christ, par. 110) Mary is prayed to (CCC 2679) Mary sits at the right hand of Christ (Pope Pius X, 1835-1914, Ad Diem Illum Laetissimum, 14) Mary is Advocate, Helper, Benefactress, and Mediatrix (CCC 969) Mary is the mother of the members of Christ (CCC 963) Mary Queen over all things (CCC 966) Mary brings eternal life by her intercession (CCC 969) Mary helped make atonement for sins (Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma, Ott, page 213) Mary crushed the head of the serpent (Pope Pius IX, Ineffabilis Deus) Mary delivers souls from death (CCC 966). When considering the Church, there is no better way than to look to Mary, (CCC 972). Catholics entrust themselve to Mary's prayer (CCC 2677). No man goeth to Christ but by His Mother," (Vatican Website: Encyclical of Pope Leo 13th on the Rosary, Octobri Mense, Pope Leo 13th, 1903-1914). And that’s just concerning Mary..

When Frank says Catholics can be saved I agree with him completely, I'm just very much concerned for every Catholic, as they are under so much false doctrine while largely being discouraged from reading their Bible to expose these false teachings, that it becomes far less likely. I came out of it, but my family is still mostly Catholic. I take much solace in the scripture that says "we will only be accountable for what we know." Yet, if Jesus is really lord of a person's life, does that person not automatically want to find out what the boss says, what he wants, how he wants us to conduct ourselves? In other words, it seems automatic that anyone professing Jesus as Lord would be compelled to read the Bible, and in doing so discover all of the false teachings of Catholicism, and get out. That's what is involved in personal relationship, but religiosity is so thick in Catholicism that it hinders that relationship aspect.

John Boehmer Is this a serious comment or a joke? If you attend Catholic Mass daily for 3 years you will hear almost the whole Bible read to you and commented upon by the priest. Unless you eat My Flesh and drink My Blood you shall not have life within you. Jesus said this 5 times in John6 so it’s an important instruction, especially when combined with the Last Supper accounts. The Catholic Church had the final say on Biblical content c.375. The early church fathers all emphasized the importance of Holy Communion. Blessings

@@larryluch8178 I was a practicing Catholic for 20 years, three different churches, and I estimate it was no more than maybe 80 scriptures that were read and used as part of the sermon in my whole time in. Same ones repeated regularly, nothing from the old testament. Never once encouraged to read my Bible. I have heard many other Catholics attest to the same, no sir, not a joke. If you're honestly telling me that in a three-year span you will have studied and dealt with almost the entire Bible, I'll just have to take your word for it. Apparently your priest is doing your congregation a much better service than the status quo priest is.

John Boehmer In a 3 year cycle every Catholic Mass has OT or an epistle, a psalm and NT readings. Today we have Paul to the Galatians, a psalm and the Gospel story of Martha and Mary. This should be the same worldwide. Every Mass has the Liturgy of the Word and Liturgy of the Eucharist. Just like the Jews were fed manna in the desert so at Mass we receive Jesus truly present, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity in Holy Communion. This is what Jesus gave us in the Last Supper and John 6- Unless you eat My Flesh and drink My Blood you shall not have life within you. I’m surprised you got such little exposure to Scripture but we are living in dark times . Sadly some priests are not faithful to church discipline. Anyway, blessings to you in your constant efforts to be closer to Jesus

@@johnboehmer6683 You either only attended Church only a couple of Sundays a month, like every Cath-lite turned protestant that I've known, or you weren't Catholic at all and are lying. The Bible is read in almost its entirety in three year cycles during mass, but that's if you go EVERY DAY, not just on Sundays, or occasionally when you remember to go. The Church in several documents has encouraged the faithful to read the Scriptures; I'm sorry that you were surrounded by Cath-lites like you that never told you this. "Nothing from the Old Testament" Yeah, this shows you were not paying attention when in Church.

@@DanteColburn Hello Dante. Well, quite a response, thanks...I think... Yeah, either I only attended Mass occasionally, or I'm lying....or I went every Sunday. Guilty however of not going every day, and if that qualifies me for Catholite™ in your eyes, then 98.47% of all Catholics get the same title, and are apparently on their way out the door also. I'll take your word for it that the church is now encouraging its people to read the Bible, but having gone to two Catholic churches regularly, and visited another 4 or so, I can only tell you that it's my honest experience that I never heard those words. Not in my catechism either. At any rate, hope all is well with you today Dante, say hi to the family for me...

Such a shame to hear such an intelligent man misunderstanding something so fundamental to the Christian faith. Nowhere in the bible does it say that we are saved by faith alone. When Paul speaks of being justified by faith and not works, he is merely stating that works alone do not save you. It is faith and works that are necessary for salvation, and Jesus makes this clear many times. If you did not know Jesus as a Catholic, it says something about you, not about the Catholic church.

Frank has it completely backwards! Protestants (TULIP Calvinists/semi-TULIP; most other Protestants) believe in justification without need for sanctification (one saved always saved; double predestination). Faith justifies one for salvation. Catholics believe in justification through baptism and belief, then sanctification happens through works/sacraments. (Frank doesn't mention James or John 6 (etc.) "Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.") Methodist theology comes from the Bible and the Church Fathers (The Method). The Church Fathers had the Catholic view. BTW, Frank is usually right, just not on this. God bless you and your family Frank.

The Thief on the cross was a unique situation. He was receiving the death penalty, which he admitted was just punishment for his sins. Jesus was able to forgive him right then and there, before they both died. But this is NOT how we should approach OUR OWN salvation, unless you are also only moments away from death.
