For my 26yr old daughter who is in her first relationship, her boyfriend’s words and actions matched. He was consistent in his effort. Meeting his family and friends, talking everyday, being emotionally supportive, she knew his intentions were legit. They both were looking for a relationship, that’s the most important starting point, same mindset.

I asked my husband this question not long ago, I think I asked him something like ‘how did you know I was the one ? ‘ He said, ‘I remember one day thinking about our 4 day break up, and thinking how much that killed me inside. How much I knew I couldn’t picture my life going forward with out you in it.’ He said he only knew that having me in his life made him happy and that he saw himself being better with me and wanting to be better for me. He said that somehow his heart just knew that together we where better than we would ever be apart. So he started planning . He was right, 32 years later and we are still very much in love. We realize that love isn’t always that falling in love feeling it is sometimes deeper, sometimes easier, sometimes harder, but something we would never not do again, with each other.

I think: people over 30 are more stable in their lives and are looking more intensively for the right partner, which of course also has to do with the biological clock in women. In the 30s, you may have already made some experiences in terms of relationships and you know what you want and what not. You no longer go mainly by the look, but looking for someone who fits you. Like a lid to a pot. The character and the whole life situation now plays more of a role. I think when you are younger there is still this sweet being in love like a teenie, but the older you get, you get a clearer head and see things like an adult. Still, it's really hard to find the perfect match these days, because people are focusing more and more on themselves. But I believe that there is a perfect match in life for everyone. You just have to open your eyes and put all your prejudices aside. In every person, no matter how they look, there is a story to be told. Love is not the first look you see, the first smile you get or the first heartbeat you notice. Love is everyday life, the ups and downs that are lived together. To be able to see the partner as he really is. And at the end you say, we have mastered our lives together and nothing could harm us, because we were together.

One thing my husband told me while we were just dating was you can’t help who you love, but what you can do is choose what you do about it. We’d hit a proverbial bump in the road where breaking up was an option and I had said he’d have to be the one to do it because I wouldn’t since I loved him. He said that he loved me too, but we had to consider the possibility that being apart was better in the long term. I’d never thought about it like that before. We chose (and continue to do so every day) to stay and it’s been the best 18 years since. The advice I give is be true to yourself and honest with yourself first about what you want, what you’re willing to compromise on and what are your hard limits are, tying that into looking back to see where you’re coming from to know where you are going.

Ok TIME OUT! When I first met my future husband, neither of us had an 'attraction' to the other in the moment. We became friends, spent time together, our affection/attraction grew over time. We have been living together 22 years, married 7, and raised our son, together. Change IS a constant. A successful relationship is about forgiveness, compassion, understanding, empathy and adaption. There is NO real certainty or guarantee. It involves taking a step into the abyss, an emotional abyss. The more emotionally developed & mature YOU are, the better able you will be to navigate the experience. Wishing you three the best of success. You are each wonderful and deserve wonderful loving & supportive life partners.

The thing about deal breakers/absolute no's, people who choose to stay on and overlook these because of other desirable qualities in the partner may actually be unable to do so. In the long term, this grinds down the patience, empathy and understanding you have for your partner to the eventual stage where you may end up being very judgmental. For instance, he could have all these amazing qualities that you really love but his unhealthy eating habits irk you. Or maybe he is always late for dates. In the long run, you try to be helpful and make him change his eating habits when he has no desire to or you develop growing resentment to the extent that even a minute late starts an argument. This eventually becomes too stressful for the partner and he feels judged (or maybe even attacked for just being himself). Depending on the partner's personality, this could possibly become a cause for emotional disconnect or lowered self esteem because he sees himself as flawed. More importantly, the question to ask oneself when seeing deal breakers in the partner is "Can I accept him in his current state, even if this thing about him doesn't change? If he resists change, even though it is for his own good, will that affect my love and respect for him?"

gloria is absolutely right in this case, for women, the first thing she should know is, how much she likes and love this man and for me how far can I accept his flaws, but the first point is very influential because if a woman already loves a man, she can accept everything the man's flaws and accept him as he is, and John is also absolutely right when he says that the foundation in a relationship doesn't always have to create shared memories and do a lot of things together, sometimes relationships can be built based on a common perception of the future and the same mindset that can lead to a marriage commitment, it's very possible because there doesn't always have to be a physical touch from building a relationship, but perception and common thoughts about the future are other important things, but I also understand Jason's view on this, actually Jason's mindset is the same, where he says one of the strong foundations in determining the strength of a relationship and commitment is experience, he means how we create a "both experience" to determine whether we are compatible or not, but what must be underlined here is that the experience of the two does not have to be together or face to face, experience through many similarities in the past can be one of them, the experience of telling stories up close and in detail about the future is also one of them... so there's no need for physical touch here because "jeoung" is attraction in a deeper form and makes us feel "attachment" and this is not just physical attraction and touch but rather to build a bigger relationship like how our mindset will be, our view of the future and our vision, mission if we get married later... and the similarity and perspective does not have to be "physical touch or doing intimate things together" but rather an attraction and foundation to build a mindset and relationship about the future. So what is meant by experience here according to Jason may be more than just physical touch and physical intimacy but more on experience and a common mindset to build a future together, so actually both Jason and John have the same mindset about how to build a relationship that leads towards commitment but in a slightly different language according to Jason and John's version 😊

when jason told 30 year old Gloria that she ain’t young anymore I FELT THAT PAIN LOL. At 30, I also feel the same way as her. I actually had a conversation with someone earlier about this today and said the exact same things. 😂 Change may happen for better or for worse, sometimes I worry because with dating apps and “checklists” a lot of it feels superficial, with instant gratification in many aspects in life which changed a lot of dynamics in my opinion.

Wow, I enjoy watching your perspective on dating. Even thou I’m not in the dating game! I have to say dating seems so hard these days. I believe when you find that one person you will know. All the logic will be thrown out the window so fast! I don’t think there is love at first sight. But believe in lust sparks at first sight. I have to say love isn’t calculated. No one is going to check off all your boxes. I agree it’s good to have your concrete No go, can’t compromise list. One is kids or no kids or her mannerisms / respect towards her family or yours. I believe that good communication, honestly, enjoying each other’s company, making each other laugh, respectful towards each other, and supporting each other makes a healthy relationship. Maybe that’s the reason why parents pressure their kids to get married at a younger age. They know it only gets harder as you get older.

I think adults in their 30s+ know themselves enough to be able to determine if another person is even worth their time or pursuing just after one conversation. I find that this demographic group (my data comes from my group of friends lol) usually wear their heart on their sleeves and are very transparent with what they want or expect from another person from the start. Dating for “commitment” in your 30s+ is more or less determining how the other partner can compliment you in your life and vice versa and achieving the “jeong” factor.

For a person who is not sure about committing .. its better you avoid giving mixed signals just because you're attracted to them. I think attraction to some extent changes a person's heart and may offer commitment but its rare. Mostly people who have a reason to not commit, be it time, social status, expectations etc hardly end up committing even when swayed by attraction.
@Gigi_Yip
@Gigi_Yip 2 жыл бұрын
I think one determining factor to decide when to commit is whether the couple wants to have a kid. I know many people choose to remain in a common-law relationship unless or until they want to have kids. In Asian culture, another factor can be family pressure too, as getting married is not a matter of two people but two families. Once get married, the relationship will become more complicated and the expectations to each other will also change or become higher.

In the past, whenever my friends tell me "you know it when you know it", I get annoyed. Annoyed because I could not relate to it. No one I dated made me feel that way. However, a wise friend reminded me that if someone DID make me feel this way I would be married by now... I'm pleased to say I have since met someone who made me feel this way! We felt the same way about each other after just weeks of dating. It exist!! It may not happen in the first few dates but it will not take years to find out either. @2:01 - "WHAT would make you commit in a relationship?" So relationship = marriage in this situation. My answer is when I can determine that she won't leave when things get hard. I'm not sure about other guys, but for me the phrase "til death do us part" has real meaning, so if I think a girl is just gonna ask for divorce when things gets hard and take my money, than I'm not gonna ask for her hand in marriage.

Hi guys! I agree with 100% of what Dr. Gloria park has said. Respectable females are more Getty when it comes to dating in their 20s then grow from experience from their own past as well as their friends and family relationships to determine what they don’t what by their 30s and we have discovered who we are compared to the type of people we once where in our 20s. I myself think that way as a 30ur old. I want husband material. 🤗 I also like your episodes, I feel like I can understand the mind of a man a little bet better.

I feel so happy for Gloria because she knows what she wants for herself and the type of partner that she could grow old with. 30 years is definitely not old for a woman these days. It’s only the beginning especially when you have a career to bloom too. I spend my late 20s to early 30s traveling and work at same time. No regrets because I manage to cover countries in 5 out of 7 continents. I only start dating my husband at 35 and get married at 36. It’s not really a short period of dating because I already know what I want in my life and he values the same thing as I do. There are vices which we agree we could live with and those we work on changing them ourselves. My wings are not clipped yet. He’s part of my life plan now. Bad, Jason for telling Gloria that she is not young young lady. 30s is the new 20s for woman too. She should enjoy it to the fullest because once she settles down, gets married and have a husband, parents in laws and kids, priorities are changed.

Dr Gloria's voice and enunciation draws me into the conversation... haha. I think it's true that as you get older, you think more of whether you like him/her rather than worry about whether they like you. Self assurance sometimes comes with age or experience. I also do get more calculative, meaning I think more of the future rather than live in the present and just have fun, which I sometimes think would make dating much easier 🌚 but ultimately, you got to ask yourself, do you want a partner or just company?

Not yet in the 30club but agree with Gloria's points. Specially about caring more if you like him instead of if he likes you. Think that same thinking isn't just for your potential partner but with people in general. Think 'jeong' is what makes the break- up super hard but when you meet someone new you need to start fresh and think about the future and possibly your future together.

Girl get all the questions what we women want in a relationship in our late 20’s & early 30’s.

I am in my late twenties, (27), but I appreciate people who see me the way I am and what I am passionate about. The relationship is not so much about pleasing others to make the guy like me, but understanding each other to agree where we are now is important and loving each other because we both may want to learn, grow and become lovely to each other. think about kindness and how important it is in our daily life, just to make you feel good and valued.

I really enjoyed this chat session. And Dr. Park's question on commitment was very deep. Thanks for sharing all of your views guys. Love is very complex but at the same time such a very beautiful experience and I believe transcends everything. I think it is one of the the deepest core if not the deepest experience minus the pain of human life/humanity. What I learned through my daily observations of people in general is that not everything is and will be perfect, but if two people love each other unconditionally, are faithful and TRUST each other, work as a team, have patience, have respect, love, and care for one another I strongly believe love can last for eternity. As human beings we are always a work in progress. We are always growing and always learning. I am not an expert at love but my parents told me that you know he or she is the one is because you can feel it that you can never let go of him or her and that person can never let go of you no matter. It is that continuous and consistent feeling.

The text prolly edited by Jason. 🤭 Jason can't deny anything, we have receipts now. 😜✌🏻The blush edits are 👌🏻. Not John putting Jason on the edge by asking "did you feel that with your ex" and the rest made me die of laughing, with your bromance, I can't even 🤭 I agree with gloria, her answers are on point. Deal breakers were hard to balance sometimes if blindedbby love but yea you'll feel it when it's a green light or red flag. On to the next video. 🥰 Great job everyone! 👏🏻👏🏻 Aja!

I’m in my 20s and have a boyfriend. I think if you truly love someone, any of his flaws, challenges that may arise can be overcome together. After some time together, your heart will tells you whether this is the right person or not, and whether this person could be your future. I only realized how strong the feelings can be and how important it is to listen to your heart before ‘calculations’ comes in when I started to date. I also did a lot of calculations in a relationship, and I think the best solution will be listen to your heart before making calculations as formulae exist to be changed to suit it’s use cases.

Great question, what not when... I've had friends who went both ways. Had friends (guys) who got married bcz "it was time". They were reaching the age. Had friends who got married cuz they had history w/ partner, 2 ended in divorce. One of them saw partner's flaws but went ahead anyways cuz he thought she'd changed. People change but not that much. The older you get the more the choice is practical than romance though if you're lucky, you have both. Gloria's got good questions, straight shooter.

You do not overcome peoples habits, you decide to accept them; no one is perfect. How can you find love if you do not know yourself? How do I envision my future? What do I do for fun? Am I religious or spiritual? How do I stay mentally healthy? Do I like hanging with my family or do I only want to see them at Christmas? How do I communicate best? Am I spender or a saver?......... One Love!
