My partner & I came from very typical, unexpressive Asian households and wanted to break the cycle. It took time but stuff like the “love languages” quiz, buying each other things that reminded us of one another, and learning to say sorry has def helped ♥️

This is one of the BEST topics you guys have talked about!! I might be generalizing here but from my personal and friends experience men take longer to be emotionally mature /secure. And as you guys mentioned lot of that has to do with how it is still embedded in the society to not show feelings or emotions coz it’s consider “WEAK”.

That doesn’t mean that they can’t gauge social situations or understand when someone is uncomfortable, unhappy or offended. They can gauge all of that and much more including a girl’s boundaries. Most people can assess that. Only weirdos with no social skills lack in this area.

I feel like vulnerability can be a superpower and love that more men are able to open up nowadays. It’s like a tool in your tool box that you can pull out to really connect on a deeper level with people you choose to share your insecurities with. Double edged sword for sure because being vulnerable to the wrong person could lead to unwanted breaks in trust! Softbois ftw uwu hehe

FINALLY YOU GET IT! Actually I'm being super cheeky it took me forever as a closed off strong Lady to realise (after watching a lot of Kdrama 🙄🤐) I was not sharing any emotion, or vulnerability etc and guess what I was always accused of " trying to solve things, instead of just listening" "Never really listening" Didn't expect as a woman I would have become so guarded lol But HOORAY for the ability to learn change and grow super powers..( however painfully its achieved)😉🤔🙂😅

I don't necessarily agree that the opposite sex not having experience being in a relationship is a deal breaker. (Doesn't mean YOU have to teach them how to be in a relationship.) I believe that person see's how other people's relationships are like and knows what they want and don't want from their relationships. Whether about knowing how to express how they feel is how comfortable you make them feel when they are together with you.

Loved this video so much! I recently had to let go of someone I loved dearly because he kept burying his feelings and wouldn't express them. Even after being together for so long, speaking about it gently and promises, he just chose not to deal with negative emotions and shoved it all down deep. As healthy and loving some parts of the relationship were, this ultimately ended up being the reason to end the relationship. :( For my gals out there, sometimes you just can't help the guy evolve emotionally, nor is it your job and so you must choose yourself and believe you deserve better when you've done your best. I think so much of this comes down to communication and a leap of faith to trust the other person's EQ to hold space for your feelings. And well THERAPY! I just feel that all of us, especially guys could benefit from therapy to open themselves up and dismantle all the layers of conditioning they imbibe growing up. For what it's worth, all four of you seem very self aware and expressive, even you Tim! Being open to growing as a person is the best thing ❤️

I didn’t know how important love language is and why relationships have failed is because we didn’t understand each other’s love languages. That’s why communication is key. I love this topic, from a man’s perspective because when I was young I use to think men don’t have feeling when that is not the case. Keep this going guys 👍🏾

couples counseling has taught me that acknowledging/validating how the other person feels can do wonders (i.e. i hear what you’re saying; rhetorical and unnecessary imo if u function on the same wavelength) but sometimes we skip over that step and jump straight to problem solving mode and the other person isn’t there yet lol not all girls are over-needy either… sometimes we just want to know that u thought of us throughout the day… like text us about little things that remind u of us ;) if that’s not too much to ask lol

This is by far the most honest and heart to heart conversation I have heard and so much to learn form. Thank you So much for this. This opens a new side for me understand men and people in general. I am a person who always expresses what I thinks and feels, but when it is at the level of romance towards someone that accelerates my heart it is another situation, to the point that I do not know how to act or speak in front of that person, I blush for everything and for Being outgoing I became very shy.
@hhaannnnggg
@hhaannnnggg 2 жыл бұрын
Some people are emotionally callous when they have been raised in an environment where their emotions or feelings weren't acknowledged. When it comes time to meeting romantic partners, they are being put in situations to share and be vulnerable. They might've taken time to process their emotions and internal struggles longer than others. They did not intentionally withhold information but they were probably not aware or ready to face their emotions. Hopefully they meet people or go through experiences that could help them understand different perspectives from their own (develop emotional awareness). If fortunate, they would be able realize how far they've come from who they were and who they currently are. We may have met people with different personal struggles and understanding that will help us focus on the lessons and not the pain from previous relationships. I feel for JC and Tim when they shared their past. They tried to show love in the way that they knew. Even if not emotionally mature at that time frame, they tried. Takes courage to share and be vulnerable about one's past mistakes. Whenever JY's thumbnail about breakup pops up on my feed, I feel for him too. Jason speaking for both sides 👍 Kudos to all of you for sharing and being vulnerable. 🌻 The thumbnail picture 😂 makes me smile. Looks like the old Hong Kong drama posters in the early 2000s🤣 I love it!

I’m probably the age of most of your parents. I love that you all have these conversations and are able to open up to each other honestly. It’s so important to raise children to be emotionally available and to teach your children it’s ok…show your feelings. Obviously some children don’t express themselves very well and that’s when parents step in. In adult relationships so many people divorce because the partner is emotionally unavailable. Communication, communication and more communication. I love how the guy on the left didn’t know how to express himself to his former GF but he said he cooked for her and was physical (touching her back) and to me that IS expressing himself. Hopefully she felt that. Sometimes when you open yourself up to someone you do run the risk of being rejected but many times it’s worth it. Women love a strong, emotionally available guy imho.

I'm a bit of a CJC in the way that I'm not good with letter writing and don't really enjoy it...on the other hand I have a friend that loves receiving letters. I try my best to write letters on special occasions like her birthday and she knows that it takes effort for me. Similar to what John Y said about understanding that everyone's love languages are different and acknowledging it, knowing love languages for the people that are closest to you and taking the time to identify what their love languages are shows that you prioritize them and think of them as important. It's something I've learnt the hard way over the last few years in all my interpersonal relationships. Also, are Jason and Tim taking like side degrees in counselling or something? They really pulled through with all the talk and questions and getting the conversation flowing! Loving these podcast style videos!

I consider myself to be a sociable person, I tend to make friends very easily. But I can't say I'm open with my personal feelings to everyone, a level of trust has to be built first in order for me to Express my inner feelings. I think building a friendship with someone is a crucial part of knowing if the person is trustworthy or not. Great video BTW 😊

I was listening to another episode of the Man Enough podcast and this so relates to it, there aren’t that many spaces for men to express their emotions. Even myself in order to be seen as a successful young woman I’ve often shout down my emotions. As November is also Men’s Mental Awareness month, I hope more men find more spaces and the freedom to express how they feel.

Love this topic! I think men don't want to appear weak. Depending on the woman, it can reinforce. My papa and abuelo showed by working or cooking. My brother tends to show more feelings, following various break ups and he would ask me. I let him know if you have to find where you are comfortable but being callous and not addressing the others need will get you broke up. Women use a lot of words on the norm and look at the tones in delivery-flat, sarcastic, "are we done and your happy" but we can tell you really wasn't there. I prefer actions and taking time (time is precious, making a meal, washing dishes snuggling, holding my hand, hugs) because i'm way touchy feely. Love language really affects it all. Ps yall had me cracking up at the same time. Long post: I think I wore my parents down and opened up my parents to saying I love you more often and they would wait for me to hug them (to many funny stories). I did break up with 1 guy because I'm okay with praising and acknowledging your actions but not every single detail. Whew.. Way to tiring on me. Can I just have each of you in 1 person- 🤫🤪🤣🤣

YES! A love language video would be great! I used to be very closed off with my emotions because I didn’t want to burden anyone else with my feelings. It came from me being the oldest in my family and feeling like I had to save face at all times. Plus, I grew up in a black household and it was always “Fix your face before I fix it for you” type of situations. It really messed me up as I grew up until I realized suppression was causing more bad than good and found help in expressing my true emotions. I’m still a work in progress, but I’m doing MUCH better at expressing my true Self without fear.

When you guys talk about love languages, remember that there is a difference between how you receive and give love! And that the two can be different. Awesome seeing you guys discussing this topic. Btw not all girls see guys who haven’t dated as a red flag.. yes it helps when you have previous experience but rly if each person is kind and both want to grow in the relationship that’s all that matters in the end.

Today I called up a friend because I was so sure she was upset with me. I wanted to make sure we talked so that we could clear up any misunderstandings. I honestly would have not reached out to her due to feeling guilty/embarrassed/etc., but I decided to muster up a little courage and give her a call. When I spoke with her I found out she wasn’t upset at all. We laughed about it and I felt so silly, but she was very understanding and was glad I called. We were able to talk about the situation 😅 Talking about feelings can be hard! So, I appreciate seeing how all of you were so open with each other throughout this video. I think this level of openness and vulnerability is what helps have good and healthy relationships. One thing that has helped me communicate a little better/share my feelings is knowing that no one can read my mind (as silly as that sounds, but I forget). It really takes us being willing to share and put ourselves out there so others can understand us a little better and us understand as well. Sharing my feelings has always been a struggle, but like you guys said, becoming aware and seeking opportunities for growth can definitely help.

Such a good topic you decided to talk about! I really enjoyed it ^^ Speaking from my personal experience, I am a girl, but frankly speaking I am so bad with expressing my emotions with words lol When dealing with blue or tough feelings I tend to keep it to myself, I rarely open up to someone about it, and even if I do, i cannot talk about it with my peers, but rather with older people than me who I am friends with. And expressing love with words, oh man that's a nightmare haha I am 23, but in whole my life I said the words 'I love you' only twice! I mean, seriously said them, not jokingly (ofc, I say them in jokes more often), and it wasn't even a romantic relationship. I said those words to my mother and my friend 언니. Our family is so closed when it comes to expressing or even talking about our emotions, I'm hungry or I'm hurting are almost only 'emotions' I've learned to express growing up. And it's so dumb when I compare my other achievements to my inability to express my emotions, so yeah, I've been learning how to for some time haha It's not like I don't love or don't care, I just express it in different ways. For example, I also tend to cook for the person I love or want to show my gratitude to. I like writing letters, or making some handmade gifts. Thank you for such a great video!! It is definitely a topic we need to talk about more. Take care and all the best!

This was really good. It makes me understand the men in my family a little better and will be good knowledge for my future relationships. Also not all girls find it a red flag that a man hasn’t dated much. What’s concerning is a lack of emotional maturity. I met couples who have fantastic relationships and great emotional maturity even though they had only dated each other. I think it just depends on the person and their history.

Omygosh, I laughed at the imaginary letter by CJC 😜✌🏻 It looks like it really happend, if I received it, I would be like "Oh your journal for today is great, dear diary 235lbs, nice! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻!" 🤭🤭✌🏻 I just really cant even wit you guys with these side comments, captions, John's face at the first red flag .. 👏🏻👏🏻 way too funny! 🤣🤣🤣 Still laughing here.😅 Open. Honestly, Jason's idea about telling/sharing to your friends/partner about past relationship is a good one for me (which I also lowkey do). It can be a way for people to see how I react to situations that has happend, a way to understand me better like my decisions, my solutions to problems that would also give people a way to know me better. at the same time makes us feel comfortable to open up things and learn from each other, like what to do, what to avoid in the future. It could also be a way to know & how to deal with love language of people without even asking. Ya know. 🙊 Good to see you all together, having fun and all. Great content. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻See you on your next post. Kudos! 👊🏻💪🏻💚💚💚💚

It so nice listening to this topic. Before this video, I have this impression that you're all heartbreakers esp. Tim 😄. Looking forward to more conversation from the F4.

I agree - I have thought Tim put out a bit of a bad vibe in the couple of videos where I’ve seen him; maybe sort of an insensitive player. He came across a little better in this discussion. Guys will absolutely benefit from understanding and developing their ability to express genuine feelings. “Emotionally unavailable man” is a red flag to observant women.

Firstly all podcasts are 100 times better in costume 👍😉 and Thank you guys, it was fascinating to listen to. Us guys in UK also suffer from the 'nightmare' that is fear of showing emotions and or vulnerablability. I have started a new relationship and it all makes sense. When you come out of a marriage of 25yrs (yes I do have young face) It's like going back to square one especially if new partner is also divorce 1 partner hahahah. As we say in uk "Cheers" for the info chaps 🙏😉

John is right, girls prefer to date man with experience in relationships, because girls don't want to go through the teaching and heartbreaking to teach her man how to love her. I think both man and women should learn how to express their love in the way their partner want. for example, I love apple so much but u get me orange with ur effort just want make me happy. Still, love this video! Hope to see a part two!🥰

Could you guys do a video all about break ups from a guy's pov? Like do you guys miss us? Are yall also hurting? Do you regret it? Would you want to come back? Are the stages of a break up from a guy pov real? Unfollow ex on social media? Why do guys post more on social media after a break up? Honestly, I have so many questions, I just want to be a guest and pick your brains for break up clarity.

TBH, being emotionally open with your significant other is a game-changer. Especially if you have been together for quite some time. But like what you said, it's a double-edged sword. It takes a lot of courage for a guy to admit how you're really feeling with your significant other. Being biased aside, if you are open with how you feel the other person should be really appreciative of the effort you'll put in opening up about your feelings if you're one of those "emotionally guarded" types.

I like to think that I'm emotionally open/available/expressive, but realized that I can be emotionally callous when I'm not feeling the same level of interest as the other person. One of my own ice breaker questions I like to ask people is: when was the last time you cried? The answers have been really insightful. I think people tend to be extra cautious about dating people who haven't been in relationships before because we don't want a stage 5 clinger. I would rather be with a partner that's level-headed, has a realistic view of things, and isn't always wearing rose colored glasses. I want to be with someone who can be romantic but I don't want to be with someone who romanticizes romance. Not sure if that makes sense or not 😅

Definitely makes sense, but I think secretly there is also a part of us "sceptical sifters' that might not realise we are just a little bit withheld bit frightened to showing too much romance ourselves????

@@alisonlejeune614 yes, that too!! I am a romantic person myself and I tried to keep that hidden/subdued during my last long term relationship because of my partner. I was miserable. I think everyone is better off when they can be vulnerable enough to be the most authentic version of themselves.

It's much easier to share your thoughts, the intellectual information that is in your brain, than your feelings. Both women and men can have a difficult time expressing feelings, although male partners seem to have an even harder time with heart-to-heart communication. Sharing the depth of your feelings that are in your heart takes emotional risk and courage, as it can make you feel exposed and vulnerable. However, expressing your feelings is also the very thing that will create closeness and connection in your relationship. By sharing what is in your heart with your partner, you can achieve deeper

Omg, thanks for sharing more insights on this topic. Now I understand why my husband is not expressive that it sometimes frustrates me. We are in long distance relationship now due to international border closure caused by the pandemic. Last Friday I have a bouquet of flowers delivered to him to surprise him. That’s me being romantic. He takes a picture and posts on fb with caption: Hahaha! (and tag me) while I post in my fb: Distance seems to be longer with this pandemic but that doesn’t stop me from being romantic to surprise him with his first fresh bouquet of flowers sent to his new apt. I ask him why he posts that caption that seems so awkward. He tells me that he thinks it’s funny to receive flowers and that’s him being really happy to receive them for the very first time while thanking me for the beautiful flowers and he loves them. 😅 Sometimes I wish he’s more expressive with words but now come to think of it, he’s like John Chen who couldn’t express feelings well in writing. He has a different love language.

I think how to express feelings and how to express love are two different things. For example it's more mature to say to your partner that you are tired/had hard day instead of screaming at them - you express your emotions.😌 On the other side the way you express love by spending time together or cooking for them is both okay but it's important to communicate about it to not end up misunderstood. I feel like a lot of people did not grow up in homes with emotionally mature parents and now are finally learning how to express and process emotions. From my experience my parents were always roasting each other, and when I was in relationship I was doing the same. But sometimes it was soo brutal he thought I did not actually love him lol 🤣 lesson learned! Guy not having girlfriend before can be red flag😁 depends on person. I met a boy, he was typical "nice guy", had ton of female friends but never dated anyone...

I'm going to answer the question from a female prospective and who is also not Asian. 1. Are men emotionally insecure? yes 2. why do men have difficulty expressing how they feel? I think it has something to do with the Y chromosome, in my opinion 3. Have emotionally callous affected your relationship? nope, I think a person who isn't emotionally available should not waste another person's time. CJC said "in collage, she used to write me letters and love notes". That is so cute and personable💓 4. Have you experienced this with your partner? no, I'm more of a patient person and would consider that he's introverted. So sometimes people just need a little bit more time to express themselves. I can understand maybe after a year or so, I would questioning how he feels about the relationship. 5. How have your love language affected your relationship? I don't know, I do feel like I gave more than the guy did. I was definitely more emotionally available than he was. 6. How can you overcome this? uummm communication, maybe? what is wrong with expressing to the other person how you want to be treated, or what you expect from the relationship. *I love Jason's answers" 7. Do a girl thinks that a guy with no dating experience is more work? no, he's pure. But how many guys are actually honest about this though? I don't think it's a red flag. Me personally I actually have more respect for that. Can you imagine being with someone who is automatically a ladies man? that's a turn off and would make me more insecure and not trust him. 8. Are men insecure about crying? only when someone hurts them. when they hurt others, they don't care. 9. How do you start a conversation with an unexpressive man? Get to know a person as a friend first. Become a friend and it may can grow into something else. "Jason is goals" yes women like to see a man express his feelings" 10. When do you feel most connected with your partner? when he's expressing his feelings *poor CJC*

Jason, that’s what I do. I just listen and let my guy friends share whatever they feel. But I also make sure that I too feel those feeling; by understanding them. I don’t even pry them to tell me. Damn, I guess that’s why I am always in the friend zone.

i think love language is one thing and emotional intimacy is another. as a female, when my partner is honest about his feelings and open to talking about the most vulnerable and maybe difficult stuff within the relationship is when we as females can absorb and share that emotional intimacy that in a way strengthen the relationship rather than just being 'having a boyfriend'.

It's interesting how this discussion focuses on some men not being able to express their feelings.. it can be true for women as well. With women this problem stems from the thought that if I express how I feel I might come across as "too much" and he might not be interested in me anymore. That being said it should be established that anyone not expressing their true feelings becomes a toxic person leaving their partner doubting if they are as much into them... I used to be an emotionally closed person but my interaction with asians have helped me. I love how they even talk about difficult topics

Something else that definitely happens is that sometimes relationships can close some guys off to emotional/ vulnerable communication. My ex was so traumatized by his ex and also family that he was afraid to open up and really be vulnerable with me because his trust was really badly damaged. Emotionally mature men usually also have sisters and are very close with them at least from my personal experience.

Oooo, 1:40 kicking it off with real stuff! I’m somewhat emotionally clueless / callous. I’ve actually learned to be more vulnerable with my current “person” - he’s better at dealing with people’s emotions. 5:43 This was actually sad 😢 no wonder CJC happens 😂. I’ve only realized how emotionally isolated guys are recently but still I don’t think I could deal with the CJC situation haha. Oo 11:55, 15:10 can confirm, wow Jason really is more emotional than I thought 😆
