I cried watching this. After years of asking the universe about a dear friend of mine, I was given my answer a few weeks ago that they most likely have CTE and are homeless. When I was given their name and shown their picture - I cried and did a wonderful job of keeping my composure at work. This was the same person who encouraged me to do well in school, the same person who would help me with my math homework and who would give me advice on how to conduct myself like a lady. Although that was prior to their CTE, I'd still like to help them now. Based on the information I was given, it appears as though they've been abandoned by their family and I know that there are resources that can help. I'd just like to help in anyway that I can because regardless of their diagnosis...this individual is a forever friend for me. Please feel free to provide any tips, suggestions and or resources as I am new to all of this. Thank you.

Helpful perspective... AND: PLEASE emphasize also the importance of self-care, boundaries, respite support, and maintaining some touchstones to life outside of caregiving. Caregiving is relentlessly hard work, on call 24/7/365, and many of us are hard-wired (or socially conditioned over a lifetime) to put the needs of the other first, especially when the other is unwell. Unless we are as diligent about taking care of ourselves as we are about our loved one's care, it becomes a recipe for burnout, reactivity, resentment, and abuse.

I’m terrified that I have this condition, and I am terrified that my wife is going to leave ultimately because of it and the things that happen from it. I understand the strain it puts on her. Is there hope?

Last thing I'd like to say is a person with CTE If any of you with it can read these comments You're likely not to understand them at first Not even the people who know me the best really understand a lot of what I say anymore I've even confused myself But if you are one with CTE as I am Do not fall into the Trap All these quote-unquote doctors and such say Yes it's frustrating but you do not have to be vulgar You don't you don't have to be them Really would you want to be damned like President Bush the kid The Twin Towers
