I think your optimism about Foreman living healthy as the reason why he has no CTE symptoms is misplaced. Some people are just built different, in Foreman's case, he was built better than most to take a beating. He also certainly has not maintained a healthy weight post-career.

My condolences, my father also died from suicide, and so did his father… my dad suffered a lot in his last few years, he had this “8 year long headache” as he put it. When it all started, he said his left eye had like kaleidoscope vision, and was extremely painful. He eventually lost all vision in his left eye, and I remember him saying that the right eye was beginning to have the same problem… That was just days before he died. He couldn’t take the pain anymore. He was once a successful roofing supply salesman; he’d been a roofer for years, but fell off a roof in the mid ‘80s and broke his heel, and a lot of other injuries. My mom said he was never really the same after that. He started drinking more, by the time I was 14 he was drunk 24/7 and doing meth. He lost everything and became homeless on the streets of San Diego… I can remember growing up that he would randomly just have these injuries from getting into fights. I was too young to know the real story behind it all, but I remember seeing him with black eyes, cuts on his fists and face, etc…. This month is actually the 5th anniversary of his passing. In the last couple days I’ve gone down this rabbit hole learning about cte, and now I’m quite certain that he had some stage of dementia… he wanted his brain to be donated to science so that we could figure out wtf was wrong with him, and why doctors couldn’t give him an answer. My family was too poor and broken to have any kind of funeral or anything for him, everyone basically ignored his last wishes and I’ve felt so guilty. I really think I have the answers now, and maybe in some way, wherever his soul is, maybe he does too. Sorry I didn’t intend for this to be so long….. god bless and stay safe!

Im at risk to develop CTE; im 30. Ive had 8 Concussions. After my last Concussion in February 2023, i started having bad mood swings, i had memory loss, impared judgement, forgetting where i am sometimes, headaches, nerve damage, i will be walking to my car, then set my phone down and forget where i was 5 minutes ago. My first Concussion was in 2006, i got hit in the head during a soccer game, then blacked out. To this day, i have no memory of what happened after i got hit, 30 minutes later i woke up and didnt know what happened. In 2012, i fell off a swing set and when the cops found me, i couldnt move my arms. Then 5 months later, i would keep forgetting where i was in public. In August 2020, i hit the back of my head on concrete; i couldnt move or speak for 5 minutes, when i was at the hospital, i was dizzy and neck pains. Then 2 years later doctors thought i had Bi Polar which might have been from the concussions and my last one last year. I cant remember the others, but their documented.

I think I have CTE. I slam my head into doors and concrete walls when I am upset to the point I bleed and a couple times hit so hard clear shiny fluid come out my nose and hallucinate and insomnia after I banged my head. I did this for about 20 years and for 10 years really extremely bad. And I lost most of my vision because of increased brain pressure from hitting my head. I’m 30 now. I struggle to count money, to shower, organize my room and even put dishes away because of the brain fog is so bad. I isolate a lot now. I changed a lot. And when they did a lumbar puncture to diagnose my high brain pressure they found a build up of protein and she suggested I see a geneticist to test for some terminal disease that I refused to go do because I’m so tired. I have autism so I do lots of harm to my body when I’m upset. And lately I feel like it getting worse.

I'm 53 and I've rode BMX and also been beaten up badly several times. If it hadn't been for my other half, I wouldn't be here. I've also been a type 1 diabetic since 1989. For me, it all went to shit with a child support agency case. They took so much we nearly lost the house and I absolutely lost my shit and tried to end it. I've suffered from depression and anxiety ever since. Before that I was a decent darts player, looking to play professional. I used to coach for the darts performance centre. I got my degree in sports science at the age of 40. I gotta say since to age of 45 the anger and rage can be unbearable. It is affected by my blood sugar though. All my diabetic mates are dead, they all passed way before my age, and they all told me I wouldn't last long with the drinking I do (darts) still here, you can slice my brain up when I'm gone. If you get in touch with my Mrs and she can get it put in the will.

In truth, finding out about all this in 2012 after I'd been training boxing for five years ruined my life. I became gunshy and hesitant in sparring, allowing inferior opponents toget the better of me before I finally quit. Ever since then I worry everyday about what damage l'ue incurred; whether 1 have CTE; and I’m bitterly resentful to all the people who’ve hit me in training and just fixated on revenge, even after all these years. Boxing is sheer evil and no one should do it.

I love combat sports, i dont feel pain when being hit, i have a lot of fun sparring and i never felt dizzy when leaving the gym but i quit anyways because i don't think the boxing and sparring lifestyle is healthy in the long run. I take pain killers of both types and its like they have no affect, even if the pain is very slightly deadened for ten minutes, it just comes back and I have to keep taking more tablets and still the pain remains... the pain does not go away, its there always. The pain is there when I wake up and when I go to sleep, but I cannot sleep properly, I keep being woken up like every twenty minutes or so by very clear loud explosion noises in my head that do not exist... the noises are not real, there in my head and loud bangs, and multiple bangs keep going off in my head that I cannot get a decent nights sleep... because am constantly woken up by loud explosions going off in my head that are not real and do not exist in the real life living world.
