Hello Everyone,
Ollie here and back with another Starcarft 2 1v1. This time Terran vs Terran.
My first game of Silver and whislt i dont win, i think i took away some solid learning points here.
As always, I'd love your feedback and comments, I'm enjoying getting better with your help!

what you need to do and tips - Make your command centres an orbital ASAP - general rule do not make a SCV until you upgrade it to an orbital. Mules are the answer to a better economy with less SCVs - Widow mines have a cool down for shooting. The cool down is for when they can shoot again. window mine are mainly a suprise unit. - Notice how the stalker moved into the widow mines than blinked away when the widow mine shoots - windows mines can be avoided siege tanks are better - Get stim before combat shields - but get both - control tip. Shift click units - for example hold shift click where you want to move a tank and while still holding shift use press the "e" key to siege it (or click on the siege icon with the mouse) - the tank will move and then siege when it gets to its destination. same with widow mines move and while holing shift click the burrow button - the toss player went for a blink build - as soon as you see a stalker blink you need to set up defense so they can't blink into your base - or go a full on base trade - Your comments at the end - Mauders counter stalkers - Your comments at the end - scouting if you want to do it send the first SVC you make after your first supply depot - rally it to the other base once it's out don't forget to rally the command centre back to the mineral line. if you scout too early you see nothing if you scout later you might not get in. OR quick orbital gets quicker scans if you really need it ( but again mules mining is much more useful) ------ However, what will you do if you scout? You need to know what you're looking at. It might not be worth the cost of the scout if you can't fully comprehend what your scout sees (Better spending time to create more stuff as more stuff will negate most things you scout) -- some things to look for when scouting protoss. - fast expand means your safe for a while - no super quick rush - do they have a forge than cannon rush is on the cards - look for 2 pylons if you can't see a second pylon than they may be doing some proxy buildings somewhere out on the map.

totally agree on all these points. my only rebuttal is on stim before combat shields, I know, trust me I know, but I suck right now at micro, so I always instinctively take the buff that is passive more than micro. i will get better at this I promise yeah, I get the shift click, I just watched an episode of pigs bronze to gm (think that's the name) which has been recommended a few times marauders counter stalkers, got it. okay cool thanks for all that, super useful Oh, and thanks for the Subscribe (l)

@@Voidspacealpha yeah I considered the micro aspect before suggesting stim - but as you improve adding micro becomes important so getting that skill added is worth trying - so add it in when you can - also the Maunder's concussive shell is very useful and passive (no micro). Also getting into good habits is important - you don't want to get into bad habits they are harder to break. Pigs guides are great. When you're ready to try some micro skills there are some Custom games you can play to try/practice. in the main screen go to Custom on the top options and then click on the arcade option - it'll appear just under the main items when you click custom. there a search function - search for the following - StarCraft Master - this has a bunch of micro challenges for all races (its outdated as it for older versions but the micro basics are still pretty useful) there are about 30 mini challenges and its fun - "Darglein's Micro Trainer" has a bunch of challenges that get harder as you progress rg hellion V's more and more zerglings - again many fun mini games and some interesting challenges. I like what you're doing here - while I'm only average watching you really bring home how complex and difficult this game is for a new person and how the absolute basics for an experienced player are challenging for new players. It's a wild journey -- I hope you stick with it.

@@Voidspacealpha Marines are the best Terran unit for most situations. They can shoot ground and up. They are cheap and only need minerals. A reactor means you can double their production. Fast fire rate. 8 can fit in a medivac and so on. But they have weaknesses that marauders don’t. The quick answer is a few marauders can make a big difference. Marauders against Protoss. - Marauders are good against stalkers - unstimed marines are not good again stalkers. Marauders do extra damage to stalkers. When marauders have concussive shells it reduces the micro potential of stalkers. A descent player can micro against unstimed marines all day because stalkers have longer range and move quicker. - Marauders against Zealots are useful when they have concussive shells. This slows the Zealots down meaning it take the zealots longer to get into melee range and the marines can kill the Zealot off before they can attack. Also as a frontline unit marauders can soak a lot of damage as they are beefier. - Colossus fry marines quickly before they can get in range to attack. Marauders can be used to charge and focus down Colossus Against Zerg - Marauders soak up baneling hits and the concussive shell slows the banelings down giving the marines time to kill them before they impact. A few marauders in front of marines are a key part of countering banelings - Marines are useless against Roaches (even stimed marines) - Good against Ultras Against Terran. - If you’re going to charge bio into siege tanks marauders can tank the damage and do extra damage against siege tanks . - Good against most mech units cyclone, Thor, Siege tanks and landed vikings In general - The Concussive Shells upgrade slows units so if an enemy attacks and you have the advantage the attacker will find it harder to flee as the concussive shell slows down the fleeing units and you can kill more than you otherwise would of. Slowing units also has a lot of uses in other situations like delaying melee units so you can kill them before they attack or allowing you kill disrupters before the Nova goes off etc. - Marauders are good against most buildings - They do double their damage to armored units - FYI - The concussive shell upgrade doesn’t slow massive units (Thors, colossus, Ultras) Like all things Starcraft everything has its advantages and disadvantages which is why a good mix of compatible units is so important. Marauders make marines better and are better than marines in the interactions mentioned above. In some situation Marauders are a must. Of course this does lead into micro. Moving marines back from charging banelings and leaving a wall of Marauders to soak damage and slow the baneling is so important. A clump of dozens of marines will evaporate with just a small number of banelings rolling in. As you climb the rankings you will hit a wall without micro and upgrades. But do what you feel comfortable with but don’t be afraid to push yourself.

Just a few things I'm noticing in no particular order: 1. Supply drop is a trap ability. If you notice you are supply blocked, take the L build a supply depot, and drop a mule. Mules mine something like 300 minerals in their lifetime. They are essentially WC3 goblin shredders but for minerals instead of trees. The minerals you gain will make up for the short amount of time you are supply blocked. To alleviate this, by the time you get to two base you should have enough production and income to have at least one SCV constantly building supply depots. 2. Keep your army either attacking or in a centralized place where they can respond to enemy threats. The adept was able to snipe your SCV because your had 3 marines and a marauder just chilling in base. 3. Medivacs. If you are going to play bio every game (which is a completely valid choice) you need to invest in medivacs. One of the biggest strengths of the bio ball is that with medivacs anything that doesn't kill them makes them laugh. Pop out of combat for about 10-20 seconds and now you have a fresh army while theirs is battered and bruised. In fact when you had that fight at the third two medivacs probably could have at least turned that rout into an even trade. 4. The great Day9 once said: "More stuff beats less stuff". You didn't lose this one because the opponent blinked into your base, or because the adepts slowed you down. The game was lost when your opponent was constantly producing 5+ stalkers, with robo as well. As you never increased the amount of unit producing structures the longer the game went on the more your enemy could simply swamp you in units. 5. Day9 also said: The game is played on the minimap, the main screen is just for micro and looking pretty. During that fight at the third you were in combat for almost ten seconds before you even noticed. Try to get in the habit of just looking at your minimap every few seconds. You can even set a little timer that beeps or chirps every five seconds or so and when you hear the noise just look at that minimap. 6. I know your reasons for not getting stim but I would like to point out what you are losing by not using it. Stimpack is an insane damage upper. If you have ten marines and hit stim, your damage output is suddenly equal to having fifteen marines. It is a 50% dps increase, as well as movement speed buff. If you want that same sort of increase in your marines you'd need to research +3 weapons upgrade. It's real good. 7. Protoss is the only race that I'd suggest building blind marauders against. Marauders eat stalkers, and against adepts they are, well since neither unit is particularly great against the other they have a bit of a slap fight but you still win that trade. But also if you are going to build a good amount of marauders go ahead and take the small amount of resources and time to invest in the concussion shells. It allows them to run and chase much better and gives you a leg up against melee. It's even a passive ability so you can buy and forget it. Keep up the good work.

My main takeaway from this advice is that supply drop is a L ability. That makes TOTAL SENSE. I will implement not using it now. If I had to take away another one from this list immediately, what tip would give me the most improvement?

That bar on the widow mine is it's attack cooldown, it doesn't attack again until it's finished. Single widow mines can't kill much by themselves (unless you drop one in your opponent's mineral line), so they are best in small groups of about 3-5 so they can do huge splash damage to a big army.

Hello m8, love the content, really entertaining to watch you level up in the game ❤️ A good benchmark for when to increase production in when your mining on 2 bases, build 3 more barracks to go up to a total of 5 (2 tech labs 3 reactors) and add a starport for medivacs to heal your units

You had many unspent resources at 7;00 and onward that should have been used for production you were pretty low on units for that point of the game, but I liked all the new developments like putting a turret in your mineral lines, making widow mines(get them at the top of ramps for best effect) for the first time so far and you built your bases much earlier relatively. You were missing some things, but that's fine as you get adjusted to these new elements and macro to the best of your ability you will get better at doing it all together naturally. The big issues that happened micro wise was your tanks were still in old positions and you did a bad A-move that misplaced your forces leading to some big losses. I loved removing the scouted proxy that was high level if it was an even game at that point you would have dealt a big blow right then.

Hola bro, puedes gritarme cuanto quieras xd El Protoss hizo un Oracle triple gate que normalmente se hace contra zerg y no uso bien sus oraculos, porque claramente esa buid order está muy por encima de su nivel y de mi nivel de habilidad. Ahora mi consejo para ti es este: cuando le matas todo el ejército a un Protoss no esperes a que re haga su ejército toma todas tus tropas incluyendo trabajadores y contraataca, al momento el Protoss se muere, pero no puedes darle tiempo a rehacer su ejército, porque las tropas Protoss son carísimas, en lo que el saca un stslker tu sacas 3 marines, mejor contraatacar en el momento con todo y trabajadores, deja mulas recogiendo minerales y contraataca con todo

If you're going to go two base, you need to expand as fast as possible. Otherwise, your production buildings are cutting into your economy. If you watch the protoss, he only builds one gateway, and core before expanding. His economy took off compared to yours. Your army is going to be weaker based on your current build order. You are using a quick one base build order and delaying it by expanding. You're going to keep hitting a wall until you pick one.

@@Voidspacealpha No worries. This game is undeniably frustrating, although very rewarding once you start figuring it out. It's one of the few games I've played where every detail matters and they add up quickly. I actually think you're doing pretty well considering the extra pressure of recording your games. I can only imagine what my games would look like if I knew people were critiquing my every move.

I like the way you played this game. there's intent & this is the type of game where an early reaper + widow mine drop to kill/pull his workers would of been handy to get control and first blood of the game. this particular game was all about control. unfortunately, he took control early on with blink stalkers.

Imho early on you need to be well positioned with the tanks and maybe 1-2 bunkers to defend against blink stalkers. You cant usually fight outside tank coverage. Later one, with stim and bigger bio ball, stalkers are weak , you should just mow them with bio ball.

I get this feedback so much but i am a lazy micro player (which is why i always go for the combat shields, because i dont have to do anything for them to work) I know the right answer is learn to do both, im trying, promise :P

@@Voidspacealpha If you are trying to improve, it is good to get in the habit of researching stim anyway. Even if you choose not to press the button during combat, it is still a good idea to get in the practice of converting macro decisions to muscle memory / refine your build.

@@Voidspacealpha Most of the stuff that I noticed though, other people have already commented on. Personally, I would work on getting in the habit of researching stim and concussive shells, getting +1 weapons and armor upgrades going, getting your orbital command down on time, and lastly increasing your production facilities (typically you want a number of production facilities equal to 3 times the number of bases you have. So if you have 3 bases, make sure you have roughly 9 production facilities: 5-6 barracks, 1 starport, 1-2 factories for example.)

​@@Voidspacealpha as far as scouting, don't worry about that right now. The point of scouting is to pick up on what your opponent is doing. If you don't know what you are looking for, then you don't need to worry about it. If you get hit at a certain time by an Oracle for example, you write down that time, and then make sure you have a missile turret up by that time each game to be safe. Luckily missile turrets also are the counter to dark templar, and the engineering bay is good to get your +1 weapons started. Everything will fit together. If you do want to scout, make your first unit a reaper instead of a marine and use that. Early game, you just want to check the timing on the expansion. If the protoss doesn't expand, then you will want to focus more on early game defense.
