I was very much like this a few years ago and it led to a few injuries and issues until I changed my mindset of what a "workout" constitutes. Walking, running, stretching, just a single hard set of curls and sit-ups.. Just movement in general now constitutes it so long as it's intentional. I do burpees a few times a week, rowing a couple of times and the "rest days" in between are long walks, playing with kettlebells or spending a good 30-45 minutes rotating through stretches. It feeds the itch without fucking up the body.

Interesting how you did the most boring stuff ever for years (burpee-holic basically) but now you're having training ADHD and wanting to switch it up all the time. I have found that pulling back on social media use and comparing my training to others has helped a lot with this kind of feeling. By the way, don't get me wrong, I think burpees are boring as fuck to do daily but I admire you a ton for committing to them for such a long time. Takes a lot of grit and love for the movement and I find it very inspiring.

I got a shoulder impingement about 4 weeks ago, don't mess around mate, give it some rest. It'll just linger without it, and over time flare up again and again. Took this time to just train core and squats, stretch and walk lots. With the absence of active hard sessions, I found my appetite is more stable and my kitchen discipline stronger. Dropoed a kilo or two in this period, all minus HIIT. Fact is into weeds of 40s you need to learn to appreciate resting. I have the same borderline broken brain as you describe and it's very hard to not have some training each day, but ultimately you need to let the body recover too.

You speak the truth boss, been training over 20yrs never stuck with one thing, wanted too, but got bored all the f**ckin time. Mixing up like you next year, just moving is better than not moving at all, great content 👍 p.s burpees are king.

The story you’re telling is so relatable. It’s like you’ve been watching me train (and als not train) for the past years. Anyway, thanks for the inspiration just before the start of the new year and I wish you a good journey! 🙌

I agree and I do the same! I've actually programmed in push/pull/legs on a 7 day a week rotation and do whatever I feel like that day. I keep track of the reps on certain movements so next time I'm back to that movement I can compare to see I'm making progress. But my movements themselves aren't set in any way. Every day I just pick a back movement for instance and attack it! It's always exciting and I get that benefit every single day!

Im like that with training, yet the opposite with diet. If im pushing workouts then i know theres growth. And i keep 1 exercise per body part / movent pattern as a marker of progression that i can test to see if gainzzz are happening. With diet though i enjoy being more accurate with calories. As the pain of cutting or not makimg progress to me outweights the few mins a day it takes to track (which is mostly just copy and paste as eat same foods) so the balance of freedom of training and accurancy of diet tracking feels a nice sweet spot for me

That’s what I do mate, 1 day will do 100 navy seals, wake up the next and think fuck that no putting myself through that today and go hit the gym d a chest/shoulder workout. It’s definitely keeps it more interesting and fresh
