You brought up a good point. One can set up a tent or similar inside the house for a smaller airspace to heat.

Excellent advice (and I say this as a 40 year Alaskan resident who has been through many power outages including a furnace failure that lasted 2 weeks in the middle of December). BTW - my wood stove has been a real source of comfort during most of these power outages.

1. Have a winter preparation and maintenance checklist (detach and drain hoses, install covers, storm windows, etc.). 4. I've lived in places where all the exterior wall piping had an isolation valve. 8. You can collect the drips in a bucket. Also, leave the sink cabinet doors open to allow warm air in. 11. Salt or icemelt before it ices. Remove snow before it gets walked on and compacted. 17. Plastic sheeting inside the windows (especially drafty ones) used to be popular. Someone mentioned bubble wrap but I never tried it. 17(22) isolate (close doors, hang sheets or curtains, etc.) parts of the house you don't need to heat. 23 potable water storage and don't forget to drink, (cold air is dry air)

Good ideas! The moving blanket was our favorite, and one we hadn't thought of before! We double up on blackout curtains, and that works amazing.

Denatured alcohol, burners, sand, copper TEG fan, co2 detector, fire extinguisher. Boom, Sand battery. Low cost fuel, easy to do. Get that neck knife on your belt buckle horizontally, more discrete and won't take your life if you fall on it

Don't throw out your snow shovel at the end of the winter season. Winter will come again, so keep that shovel. You don't need to go to the hardware store to buy a shovel after the event has started.
