Nice video about rentals and the process. You might do an about the expenses across the board. Training, medical, testing, rentals, rental insurance. It’s not cheap as you know but nothing on earth matters when your up there looking down on it.

That’s a great idea! And you’re absolutely correct, it is not cheap at all! But the juice is certainly worth the squeeze!

I'm so happy you hit this topic!!! No one talks about this. Not in any detail. It's as if it's some secret. LOL Because it's no way the average person can afford to buy these overpriced things. So, renting will most likely be the only option. Thanks for doing this video, Russ!!!

I am so glad you found this video helpful! Let me know if you have any questions. My goal with this whole channel, is to try to demystify every aspect of what I’m experiencing myself in my aviation journey. Since right now the only thing that I can do to fly is to rent, I thought I would explain how it works. Take care, and thanks for the support!

Excellent video brother Russ! Your detailed explanation on the airplane rental process is spot on. I am working on my next video entitled “What’s in my Flight Bag”. All good information for aspiring new pilots. Have a great weekend. 👨🏽✈️✈️

Thank you so much, brother! I definitely want to try to demystify as much of this aviation journey, as I possibly can. I can’t wait to see your flight bag video. I might have to come alongside you, and do one myself! Anyway, be well, brother!

Russ, great video my friend. Thanks for taking the time to shows us new pilots. How do you select an FBO for a new airport and know the parking locations for short stops?
@RusscanFLY8 ай бұрын
It depends on where I’m flying. Most times in ForeFlight, or any of the other aviation apps, they will give you a number for the FBO. So sometimes I’ll call and talk to them, or I’ll just read the notes from other pilots, who have landed there. So much information at our fingertips these days. Take care and fly well!

Very nice video, I love the detail! Is fuel cost separate?
@RusscanFLYАй бұрын
Thank you so much! No, fuel is included with the rental cost. That’s what they call a wet rate, as opposed to a dry rate.
@glennwatson8 ай бұрын
One area it's different to renting a car is you only pay when the engine is on. If you stop to have lunch you don't pay while the engine is off. Seems very similar to Australia. I've used flight schedule pro for one private aircraft I have rented. Smart aviation is a common one for flight schools. Couple differences though in Australia though. We have a standardise form called a engineering paper you can download from our faa for single engine that includes what are emergency procedures etc and vx etc etc. Different renters will accept that engineering paper but might ask you some questions from it making sure you're current. We have a government mandatory form called a maintenance release. A registered pilot must sign off the aircraft saying they done basic checks. It includes all scheduled maintenance and also pilots can log faults about the aircraft which can only be removed by a mechanic.
@RusscanFLY8 ай бұрын
That’s a very interesting process, regarding the engineering paper. It sounds similar to what we get when we get the packet of information that you have to fill out. But definitely a little different. And you’re absolutely right about the Hobbs charge. If the engines not running, you’re all good. I will say some Flight schools do charge you prorated fee, if you schedule a bunch of hours, but only fly a little bit of time. They wanted to sway people from tying the plane up, and keeping it from other renters.

Wow you got some good prices up there! I get my 1977 C-172 for $180/hr wet with a $15/hr “fuel surcharge on top of that.
@RusscanFLY8 ай бұрын
Wow, that’s pretty hefty for 172! But yeah, that’s why you see me fly little Sammy quite regularly. It’s definitely the most cost-effective game in town!
@AB828 ай бұрын
Yes that is a very good deal. Cause back in 1997 in Tulsa Oklahoma a C-152 was $110/hr wet when I was at Spartan school of aeronautics.

I rent light sport from a school in Australia. It costs around $250 AU wet
@RusscanFLY8 ай бұрын
That’s on par with what I pay for a piper archer per hour wet.

Ok. Newbie here, does the FBO provide the maintenance schedule for that airplane or is it available to see? Again newbie here and yet to take discovery flight. Just curious
@RusscanFLY27 күн бұрын
Fantastic question! And one that more people should ask. Yes, the maintenance records are available. Usually the Flight School has the logbook electronically. You can ask to see them, but I think you have to be a student, or a renter. Great question though.

Thanks for this video . I always wondered how this process works. Question So if it is your first time renting a particular aircraft from the flight school or club you would need a check out by a CFI to make sure that you are proficient with that aircraft ?
@RusscanFLY8 ай бұрын
That is absolutely correct. Every time I wanted to rent an aircraft from a different, Flight School, or I wanted to rent a different aircraft from the same Flight School that I took my training, I had to do a multiple hour check out in that aircraft. In some aircraft, the check out hourly requirement is longer than others. Also, thanks for taking the time to support the channel! I hope this answers your question.

QUESTIONS: Do you have to show which plane you're qualified to fly? Because doesn't a pilot have to have so many hours in a say DA-62 (two engines) and not just single engine experience? Was the sheet blurred due to personal info? Understandable of course. Oh and if you didn't fly all the hours you scheduled, is the difference pro-rated? I know that most planes are old (and nowadays more valuable since newer ones are ridiculously priced) but is it normal to see interiors really messed up like Little Sammie's is? Not a big deal but just curious about that.
@RusscanFLY8 ай бұрын
These are all great questions. So first and foremost, yes, you have to show how many hours you have regarding the time in the type of aircraft you’re checking out in. Little Sammy was easy for me, because I had over 100 hours in a Cessna, 172, and Cessna 152 is an easier Simpler training aircraft. So no problem there. I had more difficulty when I switched to Piper aircraft, because I didn’t have much time in that type. So I had to do more hours in my check out. Your question about legacy aircraft and interiors is also a good one. Yes, you will find a lot of the older aircraft. The interiors are well used. Having said that, the air frame, and engines still need to be airworthy. So those are usually pretty rocksolid. But yeah, the legacy aircraft will definitely showtheir wear and tear. Lastly, you only get charged for the time that you actually fly. If the plane is just sitting, you don’t get charged. But when the engine is running, so is the clock for your hourly charge. I always schedule more time, so I can have time for a good pre-flight before I fly, and post flight activities on the backend. Thank you for the questions, keep them coming!
