I have worked for Frito Lay for the last 25 years, this is how we make potato chips even though this video was filmed at a private label company. For use we do sanitation on the machines every week. The chips we make are not boiled in water first, just washed, cut, fried, and seasoned. Good short film thanks for sharing....

I wanted a National Geographic type narrative to go along with this.... "After the potatoes are captured, they are brought to the rendering plant for processing. At this point potato families are ripped apart, the screams of the little ones echo through the room while the mother spuds weep softly. They are sent to the cleaning line where they are subjected to a scalding wash via water jets that literally skin them alive. By this time, most have accepted their fate, and the line is strangely quiet except for the never-ceasing sound of the machinery. They're systematically dumped into the slicer which makes short work of the potato's body. From the slicer, they are dumped into a vat of vegetable oil, which has been super-heated to 450°. In a flash, the slices are crisp and ready for the remainder of the process. Strangely enough, the dead potato crisps are treated with utmost respect and gentle care as they are carefully moved down the line to the salting tray. After salting, they are put into a gentle tumbler to evenly distribute the salt. The final step is filling up their potato coffins with air and dumping a small amount of chips into each coffin before it is hermetically sealed, ready for distribution to sales outlets where those with starch-craving appetites voraciously consume what once were little spud families happily living in their underground communities.
