On my 2017 Yaris Hatchback hybrid, it has given me false positives quite some times, there are times that it gives me warnings for me to break when I don't have a car in front of me while driving just because maybe the sun was shining too hard a moment before going into a city tunnel. Other times happened because I just don't know the exact circumstances of why it did, but there was no car on front of me to get a warning. All these were warnings, no action was taken by the system itself hopefully. It also happened sometimes where I'm already breaking and when it notices there's a car in front of me it gives me the warning to break, but has already noticed that I am indeed breaking. We also have a Auris TS on our family and I've seen less false positives on that car. Just to add, it saved my wife from rear ending another car that suddenly changed lane in front of her and braked real hard. Another nice video, nice job 👍

SO the car really brakes by itself? That is impressive how the technology are. Great video!
@PattyKuluCakes3 жыл бұрын
Yes! Below 19 mph it can come to a complete stop autonomously. At higher speeds, it can apply full braking force but depending on the distance and speed between you and the car or person in front, your car may not stop in time to avoid a collision, but it will significantly reduce the force of the collision. The safety system saved me a couple of times when the car in front had no working brake lights and also when another car slammed on their brakes. My car displayed “BRAKE” in the instrument panel, and as soon as I tapped the brake pedal, everything in my car flew forward because the car applied full braking force autonomously. My Prius with Toyota Safety Sense is cheaper to insure than my previous car. My insurance company refunded me some money when I first got the car. In my opinion, the system is worth having.
@rlinwa7234 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this series. The first two episodes have been really helpful. Toyota calls this Safety Sense 2.0. How does this differ from 1.0. I had PCS in my 13 Prius, and it activated every time I drove on a particular very steep street if there was a car stopped at the light at the top, even if I was not moving fast, so I always assumed the system in that car couldn't measure the extreme angle of the road which made the car in front appear closer than it was. I haven't had that same experience in my 2020 Rav4 so I have wondered if the difference was the 2.0 version of Safety Sense or that the camera in the Rav4 sits much higher than the camera in my old Prius.
@TheCarCareNut4 жыл бұрын
The biggest differences in generations are in the camera and the programming. The first generation was very clunky and was somewhat not as active and really useful as the newest one. The new one is actually capable of a lot more than it does but limitations of liability and government regulations is what limits it.
@rsberdan3 жыл бұрын
Again kudos to you Ahmed! Very interesting safety feature. I like it when you said that it is also observing how I react or how I drive. 1. 1. 1. Does it mean , it can also sense the driver’s attention on how he holds the steering wheel? 2. Regarding the camera’s location which is in the windshield, does it mean we should also be mindful if we parked our Toyota where it is not shaded? Heat can damage the camera system.
@TheCarCareNut3 жыл бұрын
Hi! So the newer systems can sense if you’re holding the steering wheel or not when the system is active. Also the camera is pretty well made and designed to withstand the elements so direct sun light wouldn’t affect it.

This system saved me from a major accident the other day while driving my 2020 Tacoma. I was traveling southbound on a two lane highway, passing a slow vehicle on my right, when the car in front of me suddenly came to a complete stop. It turns out that the car in front of him was the culprit; it too had come to a complete stop. At the last second the driver in front of her decided to slam the brakes and stop . (Nissan Versa vs a Ford Fusion) Versa stopped shorter than Fusion can, Wife reacted braking hard and quickly, yet the car's anti-collision avoidance still activated. She did make contact but there was no damage on either car. This kinba falls under what you was talking about "Do not test the system".

Great video as always. I have just bought a 2020 Yaris Hybrid in the UK. I have a peculiar fault that Toyota hasn’t managed to solve so far. The fault is related to the Road Sign Assist. It recognises the sign but in kph rather than in mph. You may say that a sign is a sign regardless of the unit. It is true until you set the over-speeding notification to let’s say 3mph. If you are driving 40 mph at a 40 mph recognised sign it will show over speeding because it is equivalent to 60 kph. You need to drive at 25 mph not to get an over speeding notification. I know this is a long shot and hopefully it makes sense. Does anyone have any clue what the problem is?
@TheCarCareNut4 жыл бұрын
The problem here is likely programming related. Don’t quote me on this but there’s a customization section in the Toyota scan tool which can change units that might be the setting that the dealership needs to change
@johnkeepin75274 жыл бұрын
I run an older (2017) Yaris with the same sort of problem. It actually users lasers (not radar) but has the camera mounted alongside the laser just behind the rear view mirror. There are quite a few oddities with RSA. Sometimes it picks up images from trucks in front (which are mostly metric) so it’s the wrong value, quite a few roads don’t have signs that they should have, sometimes they are obscured by vegetation, or just badly positioned. It also depend on how ‘sharp’ a curve is - it switches off the display automatically on sharp ones, but not on gentle curves. Some places have signs that are not valid for the road one is on - typically exit slip lanes from M roads, as you travel past it. A fair bit of work needs to be done by various highways authorities to make the system work well if they become popular; they’re a gadget at present. No doubt you know that you can change the units used on a UK model, but using metric is not compatible with using RSA at all; I’ve tried that!

The system will slow down the car at full force with no guarantee that it will actually stop the car in time. While it’s braking you can steer the car safely although usually it applies the brakes at the very last minute and the normal human reaction of most is to panic and not do anything in such a split second

I'm slightly concerned by the high (to me) false alarm rate of this system on my Lexus UX. About once every 500 miles or so, I get the pre-crash warning for no good reason - typically on a curved road with lots of cars (especially vans) parked on the side of the road. I assume that the system 'sees' the wall of stationary metal from the sides of those cars and misreads the situation. I can cope with the pre-crash warning, but would be very worried if the car decided to brake automatically and so risk the vehicle behind me running me. For info, this is on UK roads so can be fairly narrow in some places. Fortunately, its never gone so far as applying the brakes - do you have any information about how trustworthy the system is. Subjectively, its better than my previous Lexus CT's system so some improvements seem to have been made.

I know I'm blowing your notifications up, but I warned you! Hahaha. If I am not mistaken, Tesla was the pioneer in this technology, was it not? Does the massive movement from nearly all auto manufacturers transitioning to these features have anything to do with the patents Elon released I read about all those years ago? I remember renting a Nissan Altima with these features a while back. I probably stared at the side mirror a little too long, and when I looked up traffic was at a near dead stop. Coming from a car with no ABS, I didn't slam on the brakes all that hard. Well, the car picked up where I left off and slammed a lot harder, allowing me to come to a complete stop. Very useful technology. I love these videos.

What about if you lift your truck 2in. I think Toyota said under 3 in is fine is that true?

As far as I know lifting the car will affect the calibration of the radar sensor and the front camera.

Why did not come on stop sign post in my car 2021 camery ?
@flagmichael4 жыл бұрын
Ah! This explanation clears up a lot. One of my concerns about autonomous vehicles is the problem of dealing with unusual emergencies. Imagine a truly self-driving vehicle in the wildfire shown in kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXqVpJqvpM5_Z9E The Toyota system (if I understand right) does not interfere with human understanding required to come out alive. Much better. I would also like to comment that the last two non-OEM replacement windshields I have seen (and one was a brand new one on a rental Sienna two years ago, and one was on our used 2014 Prius) had badly rippled areas. You aren't kidding when you warn about that.

The automatic high beam on the car is my only complaint. I've blinded cops going across a over pass as I'm exiting driving pass me. Also oncoming traffic actually, I always get high beamed specially by semi and I notice it's not sensitive enough to oncoming traffic. FYI i have a 2013 Mercedes gl450 fully equipped and the auto high beams on it work beautifully.

I would. Perhaps they could try to calibrate the camera in case it’s out of calibration. Does the lane keep assist work ok?

I have seen videos where they place a box on the street and Toyota didn’t stop. The box was about 4 feet tall and 2 feet wide.

That’s an intentional test. Have someone tried to come head on to a car and hit it? Because that’s when the system will work but who’s going to take the chance? The manufacturer did when they designed the system so you wouldn’t have to.

Though the newest generation Camry is very nice but the 2017 is a very solid car that I wouldn’t rush to trade in unless you don’t like the way it drives and want the newest features that the new Camry has.

I feel the same thing about my 2016 ! The only issue i have with my '16, is the transmission shifting ! Do you notice anything in yours ?
@TheCarCareNut4 жыл бұрын
Scott M try a memory reset with your transmissions. Would need a scan tool to do that but that will improve your shifting issues on your 16 camry

You told me everything except what I want to know. HOW THE HELL DO YOU TURN OFF ALL OF THIS GARBAGE PERMANENTLY? Just bought a new 2021 Camry and I HATE IT. Let me drive the damn car. I don't want to hear any fricking buzzers. I don't text while driving, I don't use the phone while driving and I don't put on makeup while driving. I drive when I'm driving. To hell with this bullshit.
