Fascinating. I hope this language and culture survives.

The area has been heavily russified for centuries which is why the local customs and language have died and died. not to mention that in WW2 most of the locals left with the finns, scared of what stalin would do ofc. Nowdays its such a minority language that even calling it a minority is too generous. Thats why independence is so important, you get to keep your own culture, like us Finns. It barely survives... :/

Very interesting! Cool that some of the words are so close to Finnish, I could understand them :) Always interested in seeing how languages are related!

Like most person in Eurasia, they live in cities, wear western clothes and go to visit whats left of their grand parents from time to time, wear some not very accurate traditional clothes, take some photo for instagram then get back to their little appartment in the city they found work in.

Great documentary, but why is it dubbed in this way? I want to hear what the vespian language sounds like to compare it with other Finnic languages, but it’s impossible because it’s narrated in loud English every time someone speaks vespian. Strange considering the topic of this documentary.

This is typical of the American style. And then it's no wonder that the average American can't tell the difference between Russian and Finnish. They never hear anything foreign unless they seek it out.

Well they may be indigenous but not more so than the surrounding European cultures. The Uralic family entered Europe no earlier than the Indo European one. Both arrived on the scene some 6,000 years ago.
