We're often asked about the rods and pistons we use in our V10 engine builds, so we thought we'd explain it all in a video. From a stock rebuild, to a fully built twin-turbo set up, we show you the components we use and the science behind the way we do it.

Beautiful engines! A blueprint is a drawing, the original design. So typically "blueprinting" is getting tolerances, etc very precise, to design spec. "Balancing" is getting all the weights close to reduce vibration & unequal stress.

Question, you use a coated piston on a standard block but an uncoated piston on a linered block. Why not use a coated piston in a linered block? Would there be any negative effects?
@REPerformanceUK
@REPerformanceUK 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The coating is to stop the galling that occurs when the piston and block are made of aluminium. On a kindred block it is nickel ceramic coated steel liner so no need to protect the piston with a coating. You can run a coating, it’s just not mandatory like on a stock block.

Brill video Ricky you are a fount of knowledge sir for such a young man, even an old man lol Watching that was absolutely fascinating, the science behind things, the way you do things and your explanation of WHY you do it that way was second to none. Ricky, If I had a supercar and it needed an engine build even if only stock you would be the man to do it for me.

I'm in the process of fitting an Audi S8 V10 to a VW T3 (Porsche gearbox) and that gives me more room for tuning which isn't normally possible. 1) I'm using R8 V10 headers (no cats) but keeping the S8 inlet manifold with flaps. I've seen many people suggest that they should be removed due to failure but mine work. If they work, surely the loss in torque at lower rpm (without them) makes it worth keeping them? 2) Inlet manifold spacers? Worth it for heat dissipation? It will lengthen the intake tract and change the flow. 3) Crank pulley (lightweight). Good or bad? Quicker spin up but less harmonic support /mass for the crank? Excellent channel as always. Michael.

HPAcademy show that they balance rods by equalising the big ends on the jig and then shave the small ends to equalise total rod weights. Would balancing small ends add something important to the overall engine balance? My understanding is that when hanging the small end over the scales, the big end bottom half will act as a "ballast" and throw the measurement off a tad.

Hi guys love the in depth vids you do, also im only new to the audi v10 stuff, now is the lambo v10 5.0 the same bore spacing as a rs6 5.0 v10 and doe's have a split crank pin crank or are they just de stroked 5.2 also the rs6 v10 5.0 have you seen any one convert to port injection. cheers

Awesome video! One thing I wanted to ask, Audi suspension (and many others) are torque to yield. Now, I am not going to replace every bolt everytime I need to replace a component on my suspension (thinking upper arm bolts (not pinch bolt)) when doing a wheel bearing for instance. Is there a way of determining the torque required for a stretch bolt once deformed that will give a clamping force that is reasonable enough for it to be safe / effective.
@chillznax
@chillznax Ай бұрын
There’s a right way and a wrong way. Right way is to replace. There isn’t a way to determine the torque after the bolt has been stretched, otherwise the manufacture would list it. You’ll get by with it done the wrong way but it’s still wrong. What you’ve done is increased your risk of something breaking.
@TeamAtterz

Hello, I imagine you are a specialist in the Lamborghini V10 engine, I have a really big problem, she uses a lot of oil, I think you have heard of this problem before. From what it could came ? New machined steel cylinder, new segment, new valve stem seals, new reinforced connecting rod. I still have the same consumption of oil with blue smoke. oil on the pistons when removing the spark plugs. is it possible there is a problem in the cylinder head? Is it possible that this is due to an oil vapor return? I take the liberty of sending you this message because no one can find the solution.
@REPerformanceUK

Sounds like piston ring problem if using oil that heavy but would need to see it to carry out some tests.
