I freaking LOVE Keith's sense of humor. Sarcasm is a 2nd language in my family. To be able to use humor and sarcasm when talking about past tragic events is a blessing. It means you aren't hurting anymore. Keith obviously loves ALL of his children deeply. The man gets weepy at the thought of the kids leaving the boat life. Thank you for all the laughs!

Start making a plan, and don't be afraid to ask everybody to get a part time job to contribute to a fund -- one person can easily bring in a few thousand extra dollars per month by doing something as easy as delivering pizza (dinner time is most profitable). If you get 3 or 4 people doing that, $10K per month adds up to a used sailboat fund, really quick.

Humour is just one emotion that we all go through in order to deal and cope with grief. It’s important to be able to process loss, that process being many faceted. It was used in the British forces constantly to help with highly stressful situations, without this process we would simply not be able to process it which leads to complications down the road. It can appear to be “dark” and insensitive, but it’s how it’s a perfectly normal human reaction, and important for individuals to accept and to use it. It’s certainly not for others to criticise those that use it, it’s not for them to judge. Please never apologise for using it. I wasn’t offended, I never would be. Thank you for sharing this with us, it’s very brave of you, but so important for those in that process that it is acceptable to use it. That things will get better, and that they are not alone in that grief. It’s part of life. Cherish the happiness and live your life’s to the max. XX

I amongst others am stronger for having learnt from your example that the darkest times can be experienced yet recovered from. The vast majority of viewers can also see the successful coping mechanisms you have all employed. Finally I must opine that it is not for others to comment on how a family survives traumatic experiences, better only to celebrate the fact they did. God bless you ma'am, you and your entire family owe apologies to no one. xx🤗🤗

Please don't apologize for someone else's lack of understanding.. I can understand from their perspective, but they need to understand your's as well. I'm a nurse and believe you me we definitely have dark humor. I have seen so much over the years and have consoled many family members upon the death of a loved one after we did all the life saving measures we could or just a loved one that passed due to old age, etc. Even my own relatives. I performed CPR on my uncle at the hospital I worked at as I saw him take his last breath and my aunt was in the hallway wailing as I called a code blue while doing chest compressions. I recently performed hospice care for my dying step-father, the brother of the uncle I mentioned and I helped him pass without pain. In both of those situations I showed little emotion because it was not about me, but about them. Maybe that is because I have seen death many times, but also I wanted to support my family and be there, not myself. It is very difficult so humor helps us deal with those situations. It does not mean we do not have empathy or even sympathy. We often times grow very close to our patients and their families. I morn losses like anyone and losing a child for me would be the worst. I've always said we all have an expiration date, but we will certainly miss those that have passed. Love you all and God bless you and the naysayers from good old Ft. Worth, TX. Actually, I'm here in Kemah, TX as I'm watching your video on my sailboat hoping to get out there with y'all asap, but roadblocks keep coming up. Just had knee surgery ten days ago for example so anyway we will be "out there on the water" soon!

u don't need to justify ur humour and past experiences anyone thats watched for a while gets you and understands. that's one of the great things about your family the way yous joke about "serious" or said to be harmful topics as a way of coping and just for a laugh love ur family and how chilled and light hearted yous are, people took offence to a joke about grhanam and there all just snowflakes... anyway

You don't owe anything to strangers on the internet! I appreciate your outlook on life Renee and Keith. Also i have a question for the crew if they'd like to answer, ive always wondered if you could have ANY pet to live with you on the boat (special boat animal that would be totally fine at sea) which would you have? Safe ttravels for everyone:)

I led teams of people in a multinational corporation for many years and always preached: "feedback is a GIFT". Positive reinforces, builds confidence and motivates you to do more of the same. Negative causes you to reflect and think what you might choose to do differently in future. Don't let praise go to your head and don't be defensive when criticised or the gifts will surely stop coming. Listen, grow and develop. Hope that helps Renee.

Keith is a good man, and you have an admirable family. Life is hard for everyone at times. Getting through has your family has is a sign of wisdom and maturity on his part. It is obvious he loves you all.

No apologies needed! Growing up in Montana I am used to real people. Laughter and joking is the only way can make it through life. One of the reasons I love your channel is Keith being real. So refreshing!

The ones that owe an apology are the men that dont spend anytime with their wife or kids. Look at all that Keith has done for his family. He owes an apology to no one.

Yes you're right about men Owen apologies to their wives and kids we don't spend time with them I was in one of those relationships I was so upset with my husband. I see other people with their husbands and wives. Spending so much time with him I did get jealous about because they would equal and compatible with each. When you don't have that equal compatible that love spark like I didn't have relationships are different. So if my life I've been through so much one thing that I have is I have God he's the only one that was back to me in my life my strength my challenges I'm still standing strong as a woman.

I don't think Keith owes an apology to his family the best thing for his family and life protecting them in this goddamn world the world is so sick in hell that I am so glad that Keith and Renee has their children out on the boat learning the world the political stuff that we were able to sick world they understand it too but they're staying out of it the drama shit

Hey James. I would hope that you don't judge those of us that had jobs that kept us away from our families. I was in an entertainment field that tookj me around the world for months at a time. Didn't mean that I loved my kids any less than Keith. Do I wish I had been able to spend more time with my kids... Sure. But, then we wouldn't have nice things in life. All my kids turned out great and now that I am retired we have fun, so, there's that. And YOUR need for fun kept me away from my family so be happy that people are willing to sacriice so you and your kids can have fun.

I like that you are always teaching - that makes my heart leap. Even when internet people have no business making comments about your (or **to** your) family sailing on the water half way around the world, you still set aside time for making a teaching moment from it. That's courage!

Ibam amazed that everyone gets aong so well. You have a great group of kids. I think it is wonderful that you welcome kids from so many countries and then treat them as your own. This is why I just love your family. This seems like such a wonderful crew. I'm glad no one seems sick all the time. Safe travels.

I know this is not needed and makes it seem like I expected you would not... but I love that you brought someone from a whole other culture/religion on the boat. I just find it a refreshingly open attitude. Especially when things feel so insular at the moment.
