As my mother would say, "Never allow School to ruin your education". By the age of 15 I had traveled around the world learning what life in this world was like for so many people in all the countries I got to visit and live in. I am now 71 and have never regretted the incredible education I was so fortunate to have received. Just to help with the math I was born in 1951 in London England where after the age of 4 my travels began. I moved to the US at the age of 21 and have continued with a life of exploration. This was one of my favorite episodes ever. Everyone seemed so relaxed, and it was SO GREAT to see Kate at the helm, and "the kids" (not Keith) left in charge of making crucial turns while the parents slept. If you want your kids to become leaders, you need to trust them, give them increasingly more opportunities where you truly let go and step away. It gives them chances to learn through mistakes, and become empowered and satisfied with life.

Good for you for bucking the "norm." Your kids are getting experiences that are letting them understand the whole world so much better. I am a recovering homeschool mom. My two boys (7 yrs apart) are grown and on their own. Often they have said they are so thankful for their education, and the few real friends they still have from their school days. Social experiences are not something to build your life around. Most, if not ALL the people one meets before they turn 25 will disappear by the time they turn 33. Facebook friends don't count. The 30 ramdom people a young person is forced to spend the day with is a stupid way to choose one's future. Kate can do that at 15 years of age and have her family go to bed because they trust her skills. Remember Anna having a real flare for being underway. Even if jer heart wasn't always into it. Yet she was a master at boat handling! A great episode! Great to see/hear from Anna again ♥️

Me and my family traveled alot from when i was born to I was 18 years old. The only thing it did to me was that now im spending my money traveling the world, seeing new things and exploring the world. Not a bad thing in my opinion because experiences traveling is worth so much more than material things like a new Mercedes

Some kids miss out on a cool experience at prom and other miss out on having amazing experience every day on a boat with their family. Both are equally enjoyable. Most people that go to prom don’t know what their missing.

Your kids are getting a "real" LIFE education that not many people get to experience. The family bonding that you're all experiencing is Priceless. Enjoy it while it lasts!😁👍 As long as you can home school, you're golden. Teachers spend only an hour or so each day with a whole "class." The one-on-one individual attention hours that you spend each day are generally more productive. Let's face it, most of daily life is ground-hog day, with much over-rated routine. Get up, go to school/work, go home, eat, watch some TV, then repeat. We walk and drive down the same streets, eat at the same restaurants, visit the same stores and parks, wait at the same stop lights each day, etc. It's NOT what life should be about! Life should be about making memories with your family, not sitting in the same office cubicle every year, waiting for a retirement day that may or may not come, with health that may or may not hold out until retirement. You guys are all very fortunate to be in your situation, living the different experiences you encounter every day and night. Your kids are learning responsibility and the sailing skills that will carry them through their lives. 😎 And thank you guys for giving us the vicarious life escapes with each episode.🏝️⛵🌞

I think Anna's comments are the most telling. It is very hard if not impossible to get a university education on line. This is because a large part of going to uni is meeting other people and working on the subjects you're interested in, in a very focussed way. It is very hard to get that kind of education in later life. So while it might not matter much if you're 18 and under, after this age you really have to decide whether you want to go to university, like Anna did. I think her choice is admirable.

And I disagree entirely. My mom went to college at 53 and succeeded brilliantly. I did trade school in my mid-late 20’s and make over 110k a year. Her comments seemed shallow to me and only involved very temporal immediate things, there were no lessons learned worth mentioning in all the “travelling”.

What’s great about Anna is that she knew what she wanted, and it is great she was supported. However, distance education has been a thing for decades already. The pandemic especially showed that sooooo many courses can be done online. Hundreds of universities all over the world offer proper college courses without requiring physical presence. Some people prefer that and thrive doing that.

Your kids seem happy, confident and equipped to handle in the moment challenges as well as planning. Whethey they continue sailing or not, you have helped them become who each of them are.

Great video as always! Would be good to get an update on Starlink at some point to hear how reliable it is, what speeds you get and the plan you need for it to work while sailing.

Hello, I love how you’ve shown your children the world I’m so jealous that as a kid I wasn’t home schooled.. I had a cool childhood growing up at the beach but tbh surfing, skateboarding and smoking pot was cool but traveling, learning and having my family around sounds so much better now .. iv not heard much about your older daughter but from all that iv watched your kids are all amazing human beings and some of your extended children “med crossing “ there’s lots of love in your family.. in my 56 yrs on this rock and all the people iv met you win on the way to teach , love and raise an amazing group of young humans.. thank you .. I promise you are absolutely not missing out on anything here in the “normal” world. I wish I could have grown up the way y’all did but “the grass is always greener on the other side”. No way to go back in time so just take my word for it. The normal teenage, middle school, high school, college experience is worth missing to be able to sail the world. I’ve learned nothing but pain and every adventure was a killer to my wallet. I’m saving up to be able to sail in the next few years and I’m in my early 20’s but I wish I started on the ocean to begin with.

Zcrew... I've been binge watching the entire YT channel again since episode 1... You are all so much happier and confident on a Cat, and that Privilege 585 of yours is a beautiful girl. I feel privileged to be part of your life and adventures. Its crazy how much the kids have grown since 2016!!🥰 It'll be so sad when they decide to all leave the boat, and when you decide to retire from the Bluewater.🥺 I wish it could continue even after everything you've been through.🙏🏼 I send you health, strength, and prayers for all of you.🙏🏼🙏🏼 Keith and I have the same opinions and beliefs in the meaning of life. You are the man K!👍👍🇺🇲 You are a wonderful and beautiful mother Renee.💝 The children are powerful, grounded, centered, and very cool. I wish more kids were similar. Homeschooling is the way to go with any kid. Thursdays have been part of my routine since you began your adventure. Blessing from Texas!! 🇺🇲🇺🇲🙏🏼🙏🏼🤠🤠 #brackettvilletexas #fortclarkspringstexas 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🥰🥰

Yeah but show humility at the same time. American society is raising a generation of insecure children, or sociopathic children. Finding peace within yourself and who you are, not hurting other people with your growth is a recipe for a life well lived.

Kids have a higher likelihood of dying in a car accident or even drowning than they have in dying in "mass shootings". Don't be so dramatic.

DOWNSIDE OF HIGH SCHOOL (its not that pretty) as a current junior in high school, I understand what some of the kids said of feeling like they missed out on high school experiences and stuff, but since they haven't rlly been in high school they dont rlly know much abt the actual experience for example, ya high school has its nice times but most of the time the stress overweighs the fun parts. American high schools structure of learning and everything can be extremely stressful and you feel like you have to do so good and you try your hardest but there will always be something nagging at you, dont get me wrong American high schools have amazing opportunities for learning and programs, but it gets harder by the year and really mentally draining and exhausting, it can cause many negative thoughts and not only the actual learning experiences, I mean think about it, every weekday for MONTHS you have to wake up early and be in a building for 8 hours that a lot of us do not like doing, it gets extremely repetitive and lowk depressing. I mean I haven't met or heard anyone ever say they love waking up and going to school everyday. But social life in high school too cant be perfect like u see on the movies, ya its fun making friends and going thru high school but not all those friends have the best intentions for you, high school can be very toxic and make you feel worse abt yourself even if you try and not let it get to you, kids can be cruel and not rlly care abt anyone elses feelings, specially considering that they too are going thru the stresses of high school and at home problems too. Trust me, missing that little social life isn't a big deal like Anna said, ive had about 5 best friends and many friends throughout high skl and currently only 1 or 2 real ones have actually stuck with me and made it known that they are my best friends for a reason, but all the others are not in my life and ive lost many bc they decide to be fake or js bad ppl in general ands its sad to see tbh. living with the people that love you most, your family, and in the place you love most the ocean. is, as I could imagine 100 % more healthy and better ambiance to grow up in. not around rude and unhappy 40 yr old teachers, and bratty teens in your school, and constant drama, and rumors.

Most of us don’t even remember the prom and high school, and have left many of the “friends” behind to pursue our adult lives. I would much rather have world travel to talk about in my older years than what I wore for homecoming. These experiences will be valuable when and if they pursue any career choice. They are broader humans for having experienced this life and that is very valuable.

I pray that your journey continues to be BLESSED 🙏🏼 What a wonderful way to experience the world with the people you love the most… I am 68 years old and have managed to see a great deal of the United States, but have not left this country and do have regrets about that. I had an amazing experience in high school, the kind you could only dream of. No drama or peer pressure, just a bunch of kids who really connected having fun all the time. Yet I still yearned to travel and experience the world. No, I don’t think I’d trade my experience, but I do think it was rare enough that choosing adventure is certainly the right choice for y’all 💗

Love you guys. I think your wonderful kids had a lucky escape from ‘normal’ school and home / land based childhood. Schools are so often education factories that don’t have the capacity to champion the individual. School life comes with so much teen anxiety and stress. But I can see how much your kids have enjoyed socialising with other boat kids and miss them when you’ve sailed away. It was a great idea to invite the other teens onboard. What an amazing family experience for all of you. Much love from me in the UK xx
