I work in the cultural sector, in education. For the first time in my long life I voted Tory at the last election. What I have witnessed in the last three weeks has left me frightened and despondent. Why? Because I witnessed the utter spinelessness of the response by the Conservative political establishment. Dominic Raab, who I used to have some respect for, now supports an avowedly Marxist organisation! The old line 'folded like a cheap suit' sprang to mind. Foolishly, with their worst results since 1935, I thought that the left had lost the last election. We now have a Corbyn-esque government. I work in the public sector; soon I have to give a presentation at a public forum to answer questions raised by BLM activists as to why we shouldn't pull down statues and rename streets. One error and I am for a very hard time (at best) - working in fear? yep... but I will stand up, though I do wonder why I should. The Tories do not have ten years, they have four, at best. Suggestions - stop reacting get ahead of this. Grow a spine. Don't tinker around the edges; it is far too late. Bold actions to regain the agenda, getting rid of one civil servant at a time won't do it. So, defund the BBC. Axe Tony Blair's Supreme Court. Get rid of Clause 127. Abolish all hate speech laws. The Arts Council - cut it's budget by 50%. Universities - yes, target the Humanities - financial disincentives to do those subjects. They will scream and shot and stamp their feet. Ignore them and in four years time the Tories might have my vote again.

Melanie Phillips is on fire in this video. She will never appear on Question Time after this. I think the Long March has two threads. The one not mentioned started in Sweden with eugenics and environmentalism. Hitler had contact with them and he was an environmentalist and wanted to get rid of fossil fuel and use hydrogen but he could not get it to work. This came together with the Frankfurt School. MP’s view at the end about not being able to have a discussion are a critical point. I don’t like the division into left and right because nothing is clear cut; it implies one side is right and one is wrong and they will never come together through rational debate. Debates with the intention of finding a resolution to our problems are no longer possible. Parliament is the place for this to happen and all we have is a screaming mob.

The Gramsci-ites convinced people to turn their back on their religion, nation and history, in exchange for rock n' roll, cool movies, and casual sex. We need to show them that a) that was a bad deal, and b) we can offer them the cultural stuff too. To do this quickly, you'd need to set up a billion-dollar media empire that propagandises the virtues of social conservatism and Judeo-Christian values, perhaps fronted by attractive conservative women and heroic conservative men. Failing that, we can support art and culture (at the same time that SJWs are problematising it), while promoting the virtues of our worldview. And satirising our enemies.

I have only in recent years become clearer in identifying what i'd only sensed about the decline of values over the past 30-40 years, even in Australia. But i did sense that decline and disparagement when i was in the UK for a year in 1975. I worked as a trained nurse-'nursing sister'/RN (shows the decline in those terms even) in London and then as a barmaid in an hotel/salmon fishing retreat in Perthshire and i recall coming to believe how the decline of the aristocratic elements were despairing not for ego tripping but for 'values' and 'culture'. Can we stop calling those darn 'elites' elites - for they are nothing of the sort. All the quiet of which Melanie and the 2 good men, Marc and Rafe, spoke re the political leaders has been something i have been puzzled by. I understand something of psychology and fear and how the captives can come to 'love' their guards, but really with so much brilliance in 'our shared past', which in quantum terms, is ever-present, we must demand that those 'in power' in the Conservative realms speak out with some Bulldog Eloquence! Socratic questioning is the answer. Most people have been taught to regurgitate. Question them about their ideas. This will reveal their lack of foundation and understanding. Don't counter attack. You don't even have to say what you think. Continually phrase things as questions telling them you want to learn. Make them think about what they are saying and why. Make them use the space between their ears. They will soon realise how little they know. That's when it's your turn to teach them.

@@vakilian If they can't answer, and depending on their attitude at the time, I may genuinely and kindly suggest they look something up for themselves to improve/expand their knowledge, or sarcastically express my regret at their ineptitude and suggest it is no longer worth my time to enter into discourse with them as they are clearly incapable of coherent thought and have no social skills for conversation😁. Either way I will continue to counter indoctrination. I have a friend I have been working on for 4 years (Brexit) our friendship has changed, my respect for her lessened slightly, but I maintained our friendship. She is just starting to show shoots of new growth. I have been very slowly snd gently dosing her with red pills and it is begining to work. Slow, steady march.

@@deniseberesford584 I applaud your patience. I am UK based but my sister is entrenched in US academia, living and breathing the safe space indoctrination for several years. I was too slow to reach her and now she is firmly entrenched in her way of thinking. Incredibly emotional, moving the goalposts and commits basic logical fallacies in her argumentation. Coupled with a sense of moral and intellectual superiority (she's has a humanities PhD from Harvard) its a closed loop, she won't even entertain a test of her most basic axioms without dismissing it or cutting off communication. I wouldn't have believed modern censorship could work in the age of the Internet, but it turns out if you train your brain not to look for any counterargument (or dismiss is as hate speech) then you will only ever re inforce your worldview. Im truly at a loss even how to begin the road to conciliation. All I can say to those who see signs of it, don't wait until its right in front of you. Open up channels of communication, hey we might learn a thing or two ourselves from the far left, but certainly don't allow this polarisation policy to continue unabated. Its vile and insidious, encourages an attitude of obfuscation and division (while rather unironically preaching transparency and tolerance).

The point that Melanie Philips makes from about 6:00 to about 10:00... More toward the end of what she says about conservaties not seeing the cultural changes as they focused mainly on the economics... and the points she makes shortly after the 10:00 point... Anyone know of books/videos (besides her own) which cover these points in detail?

Almost every single institution and company in Britain has been infected with this disease. I got an email from the Christian children's charity Bernardo's the other day saying how important it is to educate our children about 'race and privilege'. This has left me with a dilemma, can I keep donating to a charity which I now believe is advocating racism, while at the same time not withdraw from helping vulnerable children?

You really have to question how much is actually getting to the children.

Teaching materials online are, if you know how to shop, every bit as good as the materials in any university. In a university, you have access to people directly - and the web can't match that. Investment and policy needs to be made in order to bridge gaps. The universities are out of control and need taming.

Start by telling the truth about Marx. See Theodore Dalrymple, Our Culture, What’s Left Of It: In Marx “we enter a world of infinite bile - of rancor, hatred contempt - rather than of sorrow or compassion.” - Theodore Dalrymple, Our Culture, What’s Left Of It. “As you read the Manifesto, a ghostly procession of catastrophes seems to rise up from it, as from the witches’ brew in Macbeth.” “The Manifesto makes no mention of individual life. For (Marx) there are no individuals, or true humans, at all.” “It is no wonder, then, that Marx speaks only in categories: bourgeois, the proletarian. Why study a man, when you know Men?” “He was notoriously scathing about all would be practical reformers. Only he knew the secret of turning the nightmare into a dream. There is no need for other parties, let alone individuals with their own personal quirks.” “Where Turgenev (in Mumu) hopes to lead us to behave humanely, Marx aims to incite us to violence.” “The Communists openly declare that their ends can be attained only by forcible overthrow of all existing social conditions.” - Dalrymple, Our Culture, What’s Left Of It Intellectuals give Marx a pass in criticizing Communism. They never bring up the damning phrase against it that is generally accepted, “the ends justify the means.” It’s as if they are too sophisticated/intelligent/knowing for what resonates with the “contemptuous” masses.

Sadly there’s a salient reason why most, legacy-conscious ‘conservative’ politicians seem so disinclined to tackle the rampant ideological-left skew in the civil service and national institutions: fear of becoming a pariah and thus crucially all but _unemployable_ post-political career. Indeed, one only need look across to Nigel Farage who would otherwise be an asset to most corporate boardrooms - especially given his private sector pedigree. But Farage is now a heretical figure and few companies would dare appoint him to some cushy board position for fear of the inevitable Leftist backlash. The vast majority of the modern Right then are just too scared of being cast into the wilderness post-political career, branded forever as ‘controversial’ (at the very least) should they deign to rock the proverbial boat. That’s why most have expediently devolved into decidedly small ‘c’ conservatives, and both Britain and democracy has undoubtedly suffered for it.

As was pointed out in this important discussion, it takes courage to challenge the neo-Liberal orthodoxy if the risk is loss of income and/or social standing. It occurred to me that an untapped reserve of knowledge, competencies and real conservatism is the country's retirees, like myself, many of whom have paid off their mortgages and have time to spare. Like the country we are running out of time. I shall look into forming a pressure group on a local level. Perhaps others could do the same.

Once again so refreshing to tune into these discussions which are not available elsewhere. But still important to acknowledge that much of the old ways simply had to go. There is a tide running which will no longer tolerate leaving affairs to a patrician few. No Tory is going to put himself in a Canute position ordering this tide to recede. But do these forces, radical as they now seem, really lead towardsMarxism or Anarchy.? My view remains that in the future no party will be electable unless it occupies what we now call the centre right.

But Melanie always likes to bring the Holocaust in to all her arguments. She makes some very valid points although she can get a little strident, which is a shame. It's why so many do not take her seriously and she is labelled "Mad Mel" and has to go to the US to get her books published.

Melanie is absolutely correct the Long March has been active for decades, I saw it and was totally shocked as teacher from industry when I started teaching in Derby and Nottingham. So is Marc Sidwell that the Long March has been succesful and is here 'now'. Having served in the RAF and learnt about the great amount of money, time and effort spent in 'defending' against the communist threat but then see our education system effectively promote communism. I simply could not come to terms to see books like 1984, Brave New World and Animal Farm not being on the English curriculum let alone not being in the library. I was also disciplined by the headmaster for having some copies which I bought my self so that my Year 10 Pastoral Group could take away and read. At that time I wrote to many senior MPs even Kenneth Baker the Minister for Education about the blatant left wing indoctrination I was witnessing in DerbyShire and Nottinghamshire schools and got no reply what so ever. Even the National Curriculum where I was the IT/Technology Coordinator 'could not believe' the left wing ideas, materials, books and ways of teaching which might as well had come right out of the Chinese Red Brigrade manifesto. This country and it's people were sold done the river by traitorous politicians who threw away every thing this country fought for in WW2 and so many died for. In the end the disgust I felt being part of this Long March, I left a job I loved and was good at. Now 40 years later I see around me the madness of our Adultchilds in their total lack of understanding 'factual' history, a wish to destroy this country and it's people - total and absolute MADNESS !!

I recently went back to university (Leeds) to do a PhD, when I arrived there I couldn't believe how oppressive the atmosphere there was, I stood out so much without even realising what I was doing wrong. It's crazy how far academics have gone, and I'm talking about a hard science discipline. Everyone buys into all the mainstream new cult ideas, without question, if you question any of their cherished ideas you are faced with rage and anger. In the end, it was just not a nice environment, and not a place I could have ever made friends, so I had to quit, ending a decade long dream of getting a doctorate.
