Not necessarily. Everybody wants to stay alive and actually play/have fun but there are those couple of people who don’t want to play for too long or have grown tired of doing it that they take early hits. But with what he’s saying applies to any era of reenacting that involves the use of guns.

I'm an MG-42 gunner in reenactments and I wish that was the case. American reenactors are notorious for not taking their hits, especially airborne. On the other hand, British/French Resistance reenactors do take their hits.

@MetalheadMitch762 yeah American reenactor here. Sometimes both sides are clueless. My first reenactment I kept hearing the mg42 go off didn't know where it was and look to my left and sitting under a tree spraying our mortar squad and got me lol. Tho the same guy liked staying alive because I got him with my .30 cal on our jeep and he was apparently go's.

What is the age you need to be in a ww2 re-enactment?

It’s usually 18 years old to do any sort of combat roll even unarmed except for some civil war re-enactments but if your to young for that start as a cook helper! Or as some one he helps doctors! Or hell if you got the connections be a motor pool helper!

I've seen some reenactments that use a hit detection system kinda like laser tag. It doesn't say anything, it just buzzes.

Sounds to me some like that one system the army uses for training. Bassically just suped up laser tag. which would probably be great for general Reenactment.

I imagine now that world war 2 veterans are insanely rare, mythologized versions of the Second World War will become more prominent, which could cause a resurgence in interest that would inevitably lead to more re-enactments as well

Wondered about this since some civil/revolutionary war reenactors use different colored powder pouches to determine when to be wounded or killed and it gets to be completely random, but that’s slightly harder with magazines

Same as Civil War re-enactments You decide when you get hit In my group we put a color in the powder. So when you shot and you saw the color you took a hit. You never knew when you would get "hit"

A friend does Civil War re-enactments. He says that the agreement is that during the battle, men whose birthday falls within a couple of specific dates will agree to die sometime during the volley of fire.

Civil war re-enactors are told ahead of time, which they'll be during a battle. Deceased, wounded, walking wounded, unharmed. Each one told individually.

The military use a Lasser tag like system that fits to the muzzle of the gun and shots the a laser when the gun goes off so something like that might be worth looking into

For dramatic effect, you can also act like you were hit in the arm or leg and crawl a bit instead of playing dead immediately. (Then play dead if you think you got hit again or if enough time passed that you think you would have reasonably passed out or bled out)

Trip to Conneaut second week of August Normandy reenactment. Largest in the country over 1200 reenactors landing craft flyovers tanks and a huge crowd. Well worth the trip.

Oh man, that sounds like a nightmare. I used to do Viking re-enactment, it was purely competitive- you know you're hit when you get HIT. Having to just use my judgement on when I should go down sounds like a major headache.

One guy I watch who does AWI said its funny the number of guys who "take a hit" in the shady parts of fields. He also said in his unit, they kinda rotate who will go down when during show engagements. It wouldn't look good for a small, long ranged volley to suddenly wipe out the whole line!

In the UK we aren’t allowed front venting blank guns unless you have a gun license, which means you rarely see the muzzle flash and reenacting is just a game of honesty, when you die, at least wait for someone to point their gun at you, and as an axis reenactor, you will die ALOT 💀

I used to do Vietnam war reenactment in the UK and people were generally pretty good about taking 'hits'. The only difference with us and what was described here was that if you heard a shot but nobody saw where it came from, nobody went down. It made it slightly unrealistic because obviously snipers and concealed firing positions were a thing, especially in Vietnam, but if we did it the way this guy is describing everybody would drop at the sound of a single shot.

I was in a revolutionary war re-enactment of the Battle of Saratoga and one of the things we would do is call out a season and if you were born in That season you would die in the vale.

I think an easy way is to do it with like Airsoft weapons which can do it pretty accurately if you put in the sounds and such

If you were re-enacting with Airsoft guns you wouldn’t have to guess if you were hit.

For being able to more accurately take hits you would need to feel it so there would have to be used some airsoft gun or mount an airsoft gun inside the fake guns/guns with blank rounds, or maybe some really light and soft bullet in the guns that wouldn't damage at all but maybe just hurt a bit
