I’m watching this while working on a quilt for my niece who turns 13 in two months time, I am absolutely taking much more care with the sewing and quilting this one. And yeah, the love matters.😊

Great presentation. You are correct “life’s to short” to work yourself into frustration on something to finicky.

Again, I thoroughly enjoyed your opinion and your wisdom. If I EVER get up that way, I WILL shop at your shop! In the meantime, Patches and Stitches in Huntsville Alabama is my LQS.

I love your opinion, you have verbalized exactly how I feel about quilting and fussy patterns that can be made easier with a little planning ahead of time, thank you for your channel and your opinions on quilting

I couldn't agree more! Sometimes I fight with myself because I feel like I should do something fancy or more challenging but in reality.....I don't really want to do that, nor do I have time for that. I am trying to do projects that I will actually complete and will look good no matter what. Also, I look for fabrics that can be the star of the project so to speak, rather than the complexity of the pattern or piecing. I also tell myself that finished is better than perfect! 😊

Thank you Maureen, love, love, love your opinionated outspokenness. You do it with such style that even when you do a hit job the person must feel like they’ve been kissed😂💥. I live an hour south of you but will definitely make my way to your shop. Really enjoy your logical approach and fantastic creativity. Thank you for all you do for us .

I just watched a video, I think #32, which resizes blocks. Very helpful. Still would ‘t mind seeing a bunch more. 😊

12:40 i wouldn´t sew a binding, i would sew it face to face and turn over - so easy for every shape.

Ilike that technique too, especially for smaller projects.

You are so right, Maureen! Life IS too short! I retired a couple of years ago, and I finally get a chance to enjoy my hobby uninterrupted, and I feel like I've earned the right to do what I enjoy. And also - unless you strictly stick to kits and nothing else, you're going to need math, and even then a little for the backings. I think it's great that you've de-mystified it for us - very helpful to me at least!

Math was always my weak subject in school, but thanks to all the practice I got from sewing and quilting, became the girl to "go to" for calculating at the fabric store where I worked

Amen, Sister! I love your opinionated attitude. I make baby quilts for all of the babies at church. I keep them simple! There are a couple in the closet that took a little more time, they'll go for special friends! But, honestly, I have to laugh, 2 more baby bumps yesterday! OH MY GOODNESS! What's in the water at church?

I just came from a funeral today - my aunt - a long life well lived... Later this week, I need to help my brother with an inheritance - from a friend who had another life well lived, who passed away in September. (two rooms of fabric, half finished projects and equipment from a quilting maven that's mostly being donated to some local quilting guilds!) So today, I'm painfully aware that life is just too short. It's time to walk away from a few projects and spend precious time with the good projects and the people I care about.

Hi Maureen. I agree, just because I quilt doesn't mean I have to quilt for you. Quilting is an expensive hobby that I do for my pleasure PERIOD.
@judithbay324911 ай бұрын
I would love more episodes on reducing blocks. I make quilts for a hospital that needs quilt width around 40”. I see so many wonderful quilt patterns I would like to use but they are way too big. Sometimes you can use less blocks, but that doesn’t always work. You lose the design of the pattern.
@franpatzcraig67132 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for saying what I've been thinking. Since baby quilts are meant to be used washed and used again and again and won't outlive me, I choose cute fabrics but simple patterns and quilt them all with vertical wavy lines done with my walking foot. There have certainly been no complaints! And simplifying a pattern to keep it fun is just common sense.

Thank you, Maureen for your videos. I try not to miss any of them. Why? Because you do go through the math. Yes, it can challenge somebody not used to quilting. My advice is to stop the video and take notes for each step; at the end go through and work out the pattern on your own. Watch all the way through again. After a few patterns the process gets easier and as a quilter, you will be well on your way to becoming skilled and no longer tied down to patterns, prescribed fabric requirements, or tedious piecing methods. A much happier place to be! These videos are like precious gold and are free. Compare that to the expensive classroom experience where you can"t go back later and rewatch the process. All you have are your notes and maybe a handout or your class sample.

Don’t call it math. Call it maybe figuring. Do your figuring and then add the seam allowances back in. The word “math” is what hurts heads
