I do agree about the accuquilt cutters not leaving space between blades. I don’t like it because it doesn’t encourage creativity in a block. I guess they’re in the market for selling more products, but who can afford it all? I will admit I do have an accuquilt, but I tried to buy versatile dies.

I enjoy your channel! I've been using Grippy spray for several years now, I agree, it is a great product! I have had to respray a ruler that I use quite frequently, but only after years of use. Thank you for your video!

Thank you so much for giving us the results of trying items! I have tried a couple blade sharpeners, and they also seemed to make the blades worse! Rows of Bricks is a lovely quilt top!

Hi Maureen ! Have been watching and loving your opinions for some time now ! I have not heard of Grippy. I use Invisi-Grip and just love it. It does not have to be reapplied. I've had it on some of my rulers and templates for quite a few years, and it doesn't ever seem to peel or wear off. (Bonus - It's relatively inexpensive!) I started using it way back when Eleanor Burns recommended it, and I've seen Deb Tucker use it on some of her templates/rulers! Maybe you've tried it before. Best wishes from Central NYS !!

I would appreciate hearing an update the rotary blade sharpener if you find a way to make it sharpen slightly used blades. It certainly doesn't work for me either. I am very disappointed with that product which was given to me as a gift by my daughter.

I haven't understood the apparent popularity of those cutting machines. The pieces cost so much, not to mention the machine itself, and it seemed to me like there had to be a lot of waste or a lot of prep work. I'd rather use a ruler or even a template (yes, I'm old fashioned I guess). I have a lot of rulers and those do the trick unless it's paper piecing.

Giving your opinions is okay as you are the opiniated quilter, but don't make opinaions not based on fact. For example, have you or someone you know time the time to find the file, load it, adjust it, set up the cutting plate, and time the cutting time for a Scan n' Cut? Compare that against someone tracing a design with a light board, tracing the design onto fusible, use an exacto knife for intricate design, fuse, and cut out the design. Either use a person that has little experience with a Scan and Cut and a person with little experience doing the light board method, to get correct results. Or, use experienced person using the Scan and Cut versus an experienced applique person using the other method. Then the results would be equitable and not just an opinion. Who knows, the Scan and Cut would be faster with scanning the image, digitizing it, arranging the image, setting up the cutting mat, then cutting it. Maybe the hand tracing method might be quicker. Measure the fabric waste by weight. My question is-- How many Bernina 990s do you think your dealership will sell at $22,000 a pop, the ptrice of an average new car?

I hope you find out what really makes that blade sharpener work. You would think that something would - someone somewhere can sharpen them, I'm sure. I suspect it takes a grinding wheel, though - a true mechanic's tool - not a little mini tool that looks like a kiddy sewing machine as compared to a regular one. Enjoyed the show even though my eyes sort of glazed at the part about the cutting die. I laughed to myself as you demonstrated it. I think the cutting machines almost always result in waste - and it is always such weird shapes. :) But if they are what you need and can use - go for it!

I had the exact same experience with that stupid sharpener! I think I even did the 10 times once just to make sure I gave it a good chance. Nope! I think the angle of the stone is wrong. Super disappointing.

I enjoy hearing your opinions, and most of the time I completely agree with you and I've also learned some things from your recommendations! As to blade sharpeners - over the years I've been tempted, but I've never bought one because it always seems there are negative reviews, and I've honestly never heard good reviews. So I'll just continue to bite the bullet and buy new blades.

Glad you love the Grippy! That was my suggestion and I used it on a Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer. I cut over 200 triangles (half-square) with it and it still works great. If it does degrade I can spray again. I've since put it on all my Studio 180 rulers and others with no built in grips. Fantastic. The only rulers it doesn't work great with are Creative Grids likely due to their built in grip. Now all my other rulers are like Quilter's Select. I hope people follow your suggestion on this one. Love your channel and you've saved me a lot of money as I've wanted to search for the perfect blade sharpener.

🎉 By the way, just get it done Quilt, Karen Brown promotes a sharpener that is hand twisted and she says it works sharpening the same blade up to four times. I, too, Would like to be able to reuse blades and have a whole tin full of them that aren’t sharp enough to use on cloth. I’m considering donating them to a school with a couple of Handles for older children like high school to use on paper products. I don’t know if they’ll take them, but I have so many…
